TMS, also, you have to remember than anything less than a 12.7 is considered a medium earthquake out there.

I suggest wearing plate armor.

actually my LA friends freaked out about it too so this one wasn't small by their standards... i think wearing body armor is a good idea at this point.. either that or i get myself a waterbed & a fat girlfriend & hope the next one hits when i'm gettin down & dirty w/her... that should set off some serious aftershocks.

Since I came to Japan about 5 month ago, Ive been through some earthquakes here. Originally coming from Munich, Germany Ive never had any experience with it so at first it was really strange.
Now the special thing about Japan really is, that people here are so used to it and the infrastructure here is so good, that nobody really is paniking. Its freaky when there is a big earthquake in the high 6s that literally shakes your bed for about 2 minutes (which can seem like eternity) and the next morning you even have a difficult time to find something of it written in the papers! Makes you kind of calm after a while too.

As for where to go... safest place is said to be in the solid doorway I guess.

Didn't know you lived out West. Beautiful out there. I visit S. Cal. area every two years. My girlfriends father called and apparently it was felt all the way to the Palm Springs area. He said he never felt one that strong before and it just about knocked him over. I believe it's a good 200 miles away from the coast, so that's quite an area. I think the architecture out there is supposed to be earth quake proof, but only to a certain point. I think I heard it was a 6.something and that's pretty strong. I think when you start getting over 7.0 on, then you really feel it.

I always heard that if one occurs, you are to get between a door jam. I would say get yourself a really strong table next to the door and if one ever hits again, you can crawl under the table and pull it under the jam.
I'll never trust this' team again.

this one was a 5.8 but trust me, u could feel the whole house shaking & moving underneath you... next time 1 hits i'ma put my knicks jersey on, jump on the balcony holding a bag full of rusty nails & snap a photo of myself w/the caption "EPIC FAIL"
