It is very weird that Jr Smith can't get any love from anyone.

Byron benched him when he looked ready to break out early on in his career. Denver refused to start him even when he was shooting the lights out and playing good basketball for them.

He hasn't had any off the court problems and there hasn't been any leaks to his behavior in the locker room. All I see is a major talent being blackballed. His percentages and his aggressiveness on the court doesn't seem to matter.

This guy is so awesome that nobody is offering him a contract. I apologize for calling him Jamal Crawford earlier. He is just Ricky Davis 2.0.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

denver said they will match on any offer, that's probably why he didn't get any offers. sure his stock is low right now b/c of off court issues, but you have to remember that he's 22. anybody that signs him for the full MLE will be getting a steal. i guess the spurs interest was just a major brainfart for them...

The Spurs are the perfect landing spot for JR. It's a veteran team that will keep him on the right path. He should definitely sign there.

Spurs are too smart to sign low character players.

JR Smith has off the court problems? I don't remember reading anything about that.

Maybe his confidence is like a Ricky Davis and probably his game and athletisism too.....but the dude is no where as looney toonish as Ricky Davis.

I think its good that nobody wants to be the first to set the market, but GS's Chris Mullin already did that with Ellis and Maggette.

I agree with DJ though. This kid is 22 and can stroke it and fly with the best of them. Mid-level money is a steal for him. If Philly has any change left they should seriously pursue this kid.

I like JR's talent but there could possibly be issues that insiders know about, that we don't. Why else wouldn't he be signed?
I just hope that people will like me

What makes him a low charecter player? Did you peep him in the playoffs?

That would be insider info. Nobody here has that knowledge so saying he has off the court issues or bad charecter doesn't apply. There hasn't been any reports.

Only when he was playing for Byron. Whatever he was doing was never reported. I think he may have just been over confident. Not respecting the game or paying his dues like everyone else. I think that was the issue. JR Smith was playing really well his first year then there is a significant drop. That was when Byron broke him down.

Again other than this there hasn't been any reports of anything. All we know is what he does on the court which is produce and ooooohh and aaaaaah us. He's also not afraid judging by his playoff performance.

jr smith playoff stats last year:

27 mins, 18 pts (54 fg%, 32 3fg%), 1.8 rebs, 1.8 asts, 1 steal.

he's on the verge of being a very good scorer in this league.

eny, the offcourt stuff was stuff with him dumping water on some girl at a club and ripping her dress...as well as the incident w/ some sort of car accident or something like that.

I remember hthe car accident stuff. We laughed that off on here.

As far as pouring water on chics and tearing their dresses? Sounds like a typical night at a club to me, lol.

And Rose was caught speeding in a range rover at 100+ MPH.

I agree about character- but some guys do mature over time.

As for Denver matching - I bet they wouldn't have matched a full MLE- not if they are offering him 3 years @ $10mm.

And, if they thought they would, we could have offered them a 2 year $10mm deal with a player option for year 2- that would have gotten JR $2mm more in year one, a bit more security.

Sure, we wouldn't have gotten him - but we would have helped out his agent- much like I think Isiah tried to do with JJ2, but we got stuck with him.
