Let me fill you in on the whole story. The move of Seattle to OKC has been the worst kept secret ever. OKC folks have been talking about the Sonics moving to Seattle for about 5 years now. The KNEW the team would be moved, and so did the people of Seattle. In particular, the people that sold the Sonics to Clay Bennet knew, and David Stern knew.

All the crying and whining is propaganda, the kind of thing that happens when someone is handed divorce papers. They act surprised, but they knew it was coming all along. It was inevitable. Seattle has not supported its NBA franchise. The people of OKC will. Everyone knew it was going to happen 4-5 years ago, especially Seattle politicians. If they really wanted to "Save the Sonics", the people, politicians, and influential businessmen would have begun fighting years ago.

oohah

That's a load of crap. Don't act like the fans didn't care about their team. That team has more asses in the seats in a 60-loss season than some teams do when they're good. IT wasn't the fans fault this franchise is being moved. Bennett bought the team with the sole purpose of moving it. Maybe we can blame the former owners but to blame the fans? The fans can't do anything to stop a man with all the financial assets needed to take a team to another state. The government did get involved but in the end they took the money and ran and let Bennett off with the team.

You are right on one thing though. Stern did know. And what's why he's the biggest pile of dung of all. He's all about "NBA Cares" but in reality Stern can give 2 ****s about anyone if they don't listen to his Napolean ways when he demands new arenas and such. He is an egotistical man who has corrupted the NBA for a while now and he needs to leave before anything gets worse.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Enough with this welfare for billionaires. If they want to maxmize revenues by building new arenas and stadiums then build it yourself or at the very minimum take on most of the cost. They're the ones who are going to recover costs from the final product, not the taxpayers.

The Yankees, Mets, Giants and Jets are financing their own stadiums and good for them if they want to maximize every cent they can squeeze out of it (although I think this PSL stuff is BS). I'm sure taxpayers will be paying for some part of them, like the improvements surrounding the facilities, but at least the teams are paying for a majority of the cost.

The only thing that the NBA Cares about is squeezing every last dollar out of their fans. Once they're done with one location, the leeches find another body to suck the life out of.

You had Seattle fans attending Mariners games while they've been for the most part garbage. Just because they have a stadium that allows you to hang out doesn't mean you should forget about your one and only basketball franchise. Then it didn't help matters when the Ownerhsip Groups were trashing Key Arena in the press. They all but said they can reason on why a fan wouldn't want to come to the dump arena. Come on, how about promoting the team and signing Free Agents. When was the last time the Sonic signed a big time that wasn't their own? The city didn't care about the team until it was too late.

My only question though is how have the Hawks managed to stay in existence for all this time down in ATL?

Stern is the worse head of any sport venue by far, it's not even close.

I'm with Islesfan on this one. Funny how when the tax brackets elevate, buzzwords like handouts, welfare, and socialism cease to exist and are actually promoted. The hypocrisy is pathetic.

Sad to see Seattle lose their franchise -- @ an NBA franchise in Oklahoma. Those 'necks are gonna lose interest real fast.

SMH @ havin' Kevin Durant wear 10 gallon hats, and "cowboy boot night promotions"

Hmmm. This is actually a good point. Maybe we could send the Knicks to Seattle and then get a new team here in NY? Sadly, I wouldn't mind that.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

All I am saying is that everyone knew it was going to happen, including the fans. They just decided to start fighting about it well after the deal was done. The time had already past to fight about it.

As far as I have read, the fan base of Seattle has been shrinking steadily. They did not care as much until the team was on its way. Nothing unusual about that.

It comes down to business, and not every market is guaranteed a team.

It was a business decision, and everyone on every side knew what was going down. All the nonsense-talk from every side is acrimony.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Yeah but if we gave Seattle our team it would mean we would have to part with guys like Zach and Eddy Curry. At this point, I consider these guys family. Would you send your mama to Seattle for no reason? I think not. Think of them as you would your own moms

Zach + Jamal + Curry + Marbury + Sebstar = mi familia!

Zach and Eddy are more like crazy neighbors who you one day hope will move to a different zip code.

Where's X-Man when you need him to stick up for the Sonics?

Gotta love X-Man...or else he'll choke your ass out.
