OMG !!! He's doing 106 on a highway! with little kids, pedestrians, old ladies crossing and gasp a family of ducks. Seriosly its not that big of a deal. Yeah he was speeding but not crazy speeding. some countries have highways without speed limits but in the Us you got your 90 year olds driving and pretty much any1 can get a drives license. so thats why everyone gets all up in arms if some1 goes a little faster than the speed limit. Besides any1 who is not comfortable driving on the highway where people go fast should just stay in the right lane kthx. and let whoever wants to blaze do their thing, thats why its a HIGHWAY.

No. You're an idiot. He was going absurdly fast. Seriously, STFU.

If you want to go fast, go play an arcade game, but stay off the roads.

Seriously, some of you guys have the same rap: Going absurdly fast and endangering lives is no big deal. Murdering animals is sport and should be legal. Prostitution should be legalized, etc etc... If you want to deviate from the rules of this society, please go form your own, so we don't have to listen to your moronic drivel.

No offense, Solace, but if you want to live in a society that doesn't allow its citizens to initiate change in the rules, or even talk about it, please go form your own. This is a democracy.

That being said, I do agree that 106 is too fast. 55 is ridiculously slow, but if everyone was doing 106 on the highways, it would be a death zone. 75 is a reasonable limit.

I agree, seems very reasonable

I find it comical as I said that if this were Michael Beasley or even Eric Gordon who got caught doing this it would be blown to proportions but since it's Rose the Golden Boy it's awwwwwww no big deal I've sped before, he's only 19.

I mean LOL the media was making fun of Beasley getting all on him because he likes to play practical jokes on people maybe a little too much but here we have Rose being a potential menace to society and the apologies are running rampant.

Thank goodness he didn't hurt anybody, thank goodness he didn't hurt himself, and thank goodness for the Bulls sake he didn't ruin their rebuild by having a J-Will ending.

That being said, I do agree that 106 is too fast. 55 is ridiculously slow, but if everyone was doing 106 on the highways, it would be a death zone. 75 is a reasonable limit.

A few comments:

1) Er, that was two posts that talked about going 75. I never commented about going 75. I certainly go faster than 55. The acceptable limits are generally 10-15 over on the highway and 5-10 over in residential. 106 is way way excessive. The only reason why the limit isn't raised is because people already exceed the limit as the norm. If the limit was raised to 75, people would be going 95.

2) Secondly, if you want to discuss changes for this society, that's one thing. However, confusing that with what the law currently is, excessively breaking the law, and then claiming that no harm was done is clearly wrong. That's been my problems with the these arguments. A few of you guys (not necessarily you, Panos) really live in your own world. As a general comment, to think 106 is not excessive is incredibly immature and dangerous. Derrick Rose is an ******* for doing this. Period.

3) People going too slow are as dangerous as people going too fast.

Well said. Seriously. He should have his license revoked until he's 30. The fact that it's okay with everyone shows the complete double standard.

If this was Zach Randolph or Marbury our fans would be pulling their hairs out of their Hackey crying for a buyout already. But it's Rose, it's ok, he's excited he has a new ride, he's only 19, give the young guy a break and let him grow up.

LOL and this kid is supposed to be a point guard of team showing he has leadership qualities.

Speeding is only a problem when your deviating in traffic.

SHould not be doing it in a truck.

Depends on on the vehicle also. I have a 35 year old porsche and going 100 in that is really fun but very pedestrian in my much newer BMW.

I drive in Europe from time to time and the speeds there are much higher but the drivers respect and understand lane discipline which makes speeding safe. With POS Suvs clogging the left lane and others passing on the right our roads are not very safe despite quality surfaces.

Its pretty safe to drive late at nite but the problem is passing drunks on the right lane and other idiots who don't know your coming from what direction.

And the bottom line is any kid driving a fancy car well into the nite speeding is going to get pulled. Going 106mph don't matter if your white, black or hispanic.

I'm not going to disagree with most of this.
However, I think if the law was changed to 75 (what we agree as reasonable) and enforced more severely it would change the mentality away from what it is now, where every driver is a scofflaw, to something people could bear. 55 is pretty much unbearable.

On what road is the speed limit 55? In the areas where I drive, usually on the highway, outside of urban areas, it is 65. When it is 55 it is usually because of road surface / grading issues or it is an congested area with a lot of exits/entrances.

Also, FWIW, gas mileage gets worse as you go faster. At $4+ per gallon for gas, I'd think that might be a consideration for most of us (Not Derric Rose, or course.)

LIE, Southern State Parkway, Northern State Parkway. I think for parts of the Grand Central Parkway, it's even actually 50. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but nowhere on Long Island is there a 65.

I don't drive on Long Island. I'll bet there's a lot of traffic on those roads.

Solace, first off, I don't appreciate your "are you retarded comment." I never said speeding at 106 was OK. I know I sure never had the balls to come close to driving that fast, and Rose certainly does deserve a big ticket and a bigger fine.

I'm just saying that he's a young kid, and he's not the only kid who goes so fast. He's got growing up to do.

Thirdly, a couple of years ago, 75 absolutely was the average on LIE and SSP when it wasn't rush hour, but the roads have gotton so clogged up lately, that rushhour gets earlier and earlier these days. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the speeding went up again soon, because not as many people will be driving so much with the gas prices!

Allanfan20, I wouldn't get too upset. I'm positive that Solace meant to put a smiley next to that "retarded" comment.

I'm not upset. I just don't like using that word in the wrong context. It's offensive to me and my family, cause we have someone in our family who has that condition, and we've always affiliated ourselves with people with those types of disorders.

If you want my opinion, he deserves jail time. But that's just me.

Fine. He has growing up to do. Until he grows up, he's an *******. The fact that other kids do it, too, also makes them *******s.

As for this, I obviously wasn't referring to the literal meaning. My main point is that there is no reason to justify his actions.

Here is the deal when you have peope obeying the rules and someone exceeds the rules by a great big proportion you are headed for disaster. When I drive and my are kids in the car and someone is doing stupid shyt and endangering my kids life my life and others lives for their own stupid pleasure I find that to be offensive and can not be accepted by anyone who abides by the rules. This is just looking for someone to get killed.

Those who say its ok to go fast excessively you have lost your mind and you lack responsibility not just to you but everyone who shares the road with you. I have lost family in motor accidents, it is one of the most devastating things that could happen to anyone.
