If Zach gets traded Lee get an extension. If Lee is with the team he will start and have a huge year. Unless Zach and Curry can hit halfcourt jumpers they will never play in the system. The only way Zach is traded is with Lee. You buyout Zach and keep Lee. Zach set back the Knicks 3 years

Find a team willing to give zach 3 years 15mm buyout Randolph 15/49=34mm--the savings are different witht he cap--its actually huge savings in 2010--enough to fit Lees new salary with little ramifications to cap. Getting rid of Crawford or Curry wont be hard.

the money zach gets from another team is money we don't have to pay - but that money DOES stay on our cap.

if we buy him out for $45M [ny will never buy him out as such a high number never ever ever happen]
34mm would put 11.3 accross the board saving. I think his cap number is 17.8 in 2010? that saves 6.5mm against the cap.

hmm. i would be extremely surprised if his camp took anything less than $40M. i'm pretty sure the rule is that if he takes $40M from us, any money he makes on his next deal goes to that $40M until he gets past the third year of his deal. i think they have it setup so a guy can't make more for taking a buyout. i might be wrong about that, but i think that's correct. zach would have to agree to leave a lot of money on the table.

my understanding of it is: if he accepts a buyout from us, any money he makes from another team goes towards directly to us paying back the buyout.

Actually what we owe Zach is 3 years 48mm$

A 3 year MLE starting at 5.8mm is roughly 18.5mm$

Let say a fair number is 31 and Zack pockets and additional 1.5 for the buyout

31/3=10.3 which is a 7+mm$ savings

It's a good thing the Knicks had their sicilian messenger boy, Gus Johnson, badmouth Lee during MSG's draft coverage.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

You are incorrect. A buyout of a contract would make him an unrestriced FA able to sing a *new* contraxt with any team he desires. Obviously something would be set-up with another team in advance.
If a team gives him a 3 year MLE worth 18.5 and he is owed 48mm by us the negotiated buyout will be much different than 45mm--it will be 13-17 less. I think a top line number would be 35 as a worse case.

Why in the world would we want to buy out 45 million dollars? Let's wait two years and then' buy him out (or trade him). The way I see it, make these guys play for their money at least, because no matter what we do right now, it's not going to help us either way. Either way, no matter how you's look at it, nothing significant is happening for at least two years anyway.
I'll never trust this' team again.
