rofl..... welcome to mediocrity for the next 6 years washington...... LOL....

It's funny how our fans the past 4yrs have longed for the Cream Of The Crop 8th seed playoff spot. We're hoping to achieve mediocrity.

[Edited by - TrueBlue on 06-30-2008 2:45 PM]

maybe, but we sure don't want to pay someone 100 mil to achieve that.......

Uhhhhh we surpassed it by giving contracts or trading for them where collectively they put us in the $80-100+mil cap range the past 3yrs, plus lux tax, while fans were hoping for the same results.

[Edited by - TrueBlue on 06-30-2008 2:59 PM]

so what, we as fans are not happy with that.. stop acting as if we voted to give out that type of money... You said we longed for the 8th spot.. now you are saying we wanted to do by signing the guys we did? that is so far from the truth....

Yeah because plenty of the moves were justified. You may not have been one who liked certain moves but many of them were supported at the time they were made versus other alternatives even if it meant taking a step back.

HA HAH HA HA HA!
WTF is so funny?! Gilbert Arena is one of the most prolific scorers in the game today, has led his team to the playoffs, keeps his nose clean, and was an MVP candidate last year. He'll be avg'ing $16.7MM with his new contract.

Is he worth it? Who knows, but...

Zach Randolph and Stephon Marbury are a perenial losers. Neither is elite at their positions. How much have we been paying them per year?

Joke's on us...

gilbert in today's nba = franchise player.

sells jerseys, sells tickets, and wins games.

w/o injuries, they are a 2nd round team. that's success.

some franchises have absolutely no choice.

they are making good money w/ arenas + butler + jamison. and if not for the injuries, they possible could've advanced.

if you're an owner, who's primary objective is to make money, how do you let your best player just walk away? if gilbert leaves, how tough will it be for the wiz to find a player as good as he was via the free agent market? they would have to get extremely lucky and overpay an up and coming player (like they did with gilbert) and hope it works out.

it's not always championship or bust to some owners...and as fans...you still have a team that will make the postseason every year. it ain't easy building a winning team.

good post dj, one of the few post where it is turned around into a knick managment bashing forum... anyway, maybe that is the case, but that same team made the playoffs without arenas, I was thinking that if they used that money to chase guys like TJ ford maybe they would be a more complete and balanced team, but as you said, owner have to make money, right? I just don't like the signing, but hey, the wizards are not my team...

that's a crazy contract... i would never wanna lock up a guy like Arenas to those dollars... to me he's just a little better than Rashard Lewis, another guy not worth close to what he's making... these level dollars are reserved for true cornerstone franchise level guys if u ask me, but i realize it's very difficult to get ur hands on those types of players... i see Arenas as more of a supplementary guy that you pair up w/your franchise stud to build a winner, not the guy you build around... just MHO.

this makes the contracts of Zach & Steph even that much more obscene obviously, but the premise is the same.

He played the most pivotal role in putting Washington on the map but there are so many New York fans that can't stand Arenas and refer to him as Agent Ass-Hole etc etc. The guy is somewhat overpaid but no more so than plenty other superstars and he means more to Washington than he does any other franchise. I wouldn't want to pay him that kind of coin but it's easily understood why Washington did and they should have if they want the Trio to go as far as they can.

totally disagree w/u on that one... i can picture teams winning championships w/Howard as their franchise guy or at least seriously contending for them for many years... can't say the same necessarily for Arenas... i think he's a very good player, just not worth max dollars same as guys like Rashard Lewis.

i'm not an Arenas hater... he's actually very entertaining & not nearly a cancer on his team the way our "franchise level" guys are... i just don't think he's worth those dollars, same as you.

Even though we feel this way it's kind of moot because of the way the CBA is structured and the climate of the NBA. Overpaid is overpaid whether you're a franchise player or not. Best believe when Lee hits the market if he does and, we want to retain his services, we're going to have to pay.

Fans act like teams who are over the cap have the option to just let their own Top Flight FA walk away for nothing because they don't want to pay a player. Sorry it doesn't work that way. Arenas wasn't a RFA, he wasn't going to go somewhere and sign an offer sheet.

The same with GSW. I don't think Monta is worth $60-65mil but he's going to get it. I don't think Biendrins is worth $45-55mil but he's going to get it. As they should. I think the only exception in which you can let a FA walk is if you're absolutely sure your team is going to suck even if the FA is signed and you think going into the next off-season you can land a big time player in the draft or if you're approaching a following off-season with a crop of Top Flight FA's.

i realize all that dude, & i agree w/u that WAS couldn't just let the guy walk away... it's not like in baseball where u get draft picks from whoever signs your free agents in the NBA... it still doesn't change the fact that i think he's being overpaid comparitive to what he brings to the table, as are many other players in the NBA... it's just an opinion.

my hope is that the Knicks are able to gain the cap flexibility to target the types of guys who i DO think are worth those level dollars, & not guys like Arenas, Lewis, etc... i would not be in favor of signing a guy like Arenas to these level dollars if he was coming here as a free agent for example.

Rumor has it Warriors have offered Arenas a Max deal? If this is the case the Wiz haven't agreed to a $100mil contract with Arenas.

he's settling for less with the wiz so they can avoid luxury and re-sign jamison.

So they spent $150 mil this off season on Arenas and Jamison? I don't know what their plan is to get from where they are now to being a championship team. It doesn't sound doable unless they get extremely lucky in several deals.

They should make a rule that only the Dream Team players are able to qualify for Max deals.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
