Being behind the scenes means he's not tied anymore to the players he acquired. As the head coach and front man (GM) you can't get rid of players that you brought in and hyped up without making yourself look bad.

OK. So he's not tied to any of the players anymore, then why didn't the puppet master cut them for roster space?

Because a complete roster overhaul makes him look bad. He'll want to keep most of the players intact and let D'Antonio's system, which covers up little things like defense, make them look better than they are. That in turn makes Isiah look better.

LOL wow, I'm sorry Isles but that is the most ridiculous thing I've read on this forum and that's saying something.

Actually it makes perfect sense.

If he's not attached, then they can't "make him look bad."

Honestly, Isles -- just let go of Isiah. Harboring that hate for the man will do you no good. It is bordering on obsession. so much of your UK persona is tied to hating Isiah and the Knicks that today, with a new regime in charge, you are still arguing with me about Isiah. In one post he is not tied to the players anymore. In the next post, a roster overhaul makes him look bad.

He's still very much attached to these players because he brought in each and every one.

I refuse to let go as long as he's still here.

You are going insane, Isles. Just look at the contradictions in bold.

The thread title is wrong. Shouldn't it be "The Knicks Rooster Situation"?

You're taking them out of context.

The last 2 seasons Isiah had to stick with the players that he brought in here after telling anyone who would listen that it was all of his previous head coaches who were the problem and not his players.

Now that he's behind the scenes he doesn't have that attachment to them. Walsh can get rid of a few players without it making him look bad. That's completely different than a total overhaul. Getting rid of a few still leaves a majority of Isiah's players. If they do better next year, that makes Isiah look better. That's another reason why they went with D'Antonio, because his system hides flaws, like the inability to defend, and inflates offensive stats which is the only thing Isiah's players can produce. It doesn't make them good players but it'll fool some people.

If they do a total overhaul and do better, it'll be seen as further proof that Isiah is a moron and should never work in the NBA again. This season is all about rehabbing Isiah's image. Isiah's attachment is to the team that he put together but being behind the scenes allows him to insulate himself from trying to get rid of individual players that he brought in. Walsh the GM can buyout James, trade Curry, trade Zach or buyout Marbury, Isiah the GM could not. But Isiah will most definitely take credit for any improvement that the team makes with D'Antonio as coach with Larry Brown's win total still being the benchmark for success.

I would have cut JJ last year. I still hold out hope that Collins can become a decent player. He needs to be shooting 1000 shots a day though if he hopes to make it in the new system. The Knicks are not cutting anyone until after the summer league games.
