Hmmm... I wonder how much of a stink Mayo will put up because he can't be happy. Mayo let it be known that he didn't want to play there and I think it handicap Wallace before the draft but now he is property of the team unless he sits out a year. Could he push a trade to NY?

So it would have been Lee and Malik to Memphis for Brian Cardinal and #5. The Knicks then draft DG at 5 and Love at 6 (smaller contract for Minny), then the Knicks trade Love and Marbury's expiring (maybe another young guy goes too -- nate, balk, chandler???) to Minny for Mayo and Minny's garbage (salary dump).

Wow, Donnie had a blockbuster lined up. I hope it wasn't close. To think it nearly happened is heart-wrenching.

It makes sense because the Knicks still felt they could get Mayo until today. BTW, why does everyone hate Memphis. Both Lee and Mayo didn't want to go there.

i been to Memphis once & all i know is it's hot as hell & there's a buncha old retiree country music fans living down there... dunno if the whole city is like that but where i was it was a pretty damn boring place to be.

Wallace would have taken Lee and probably someone not mentioned by the media like Craw to match salaries with Cardinal !!! Lee & Craw for Cardinal and #5 !!!

Nope I doubt it. Bottom line we got bit in the ass for being greedy plain and simple. A swap of #6 for #5 could have been done without involving Lee. We wanted to keep 6 because Danilo was in our very original plan and we tried to get greedy. We could have done #6 and Malik for # 5 and Cardinal. We then make the trade for #5/Love Zach for #3/Mayo Walker/Jaric, then flip Lee to a team of preferred destination below pick 6 highest possible pick.

I'm so angry at how greedy we tried to be here.

I can't blame Walsh for this if only Lee stood in the way. If you come away with your one of the future and what you believe is your 4, why not.

i don't think u can assume we coulda pulled off that trade for the #5 w/o giving up Lee... he was the central figure in that trade according to the rumors, no? & i don't think MIN would have simply exchanged picks w/us to get Love unless we also took Jaric's contract off their hands.

it woulda been pretty much Malik & D Lee for Mayo & Jaric if u break it down... then w/the #6 they take Gallinari i guess... we'd be adding another $8 mil dollar salary for 2011 but gaining a star potential player in Mayo along w/the Italian Stallion.

*sigh* what coulda been.

DG is going to be the starting SF. Mark my words. I don't know where all this PF crap comes from but we needed a SF because we havn't had one since KVH !!!

PG = MARBURY ( playing for a contract )
SG = CRAWFORD
SF = DG
PF = Chandler
C = Zebo

That is a fast team that can shoot, even Z can hit the 3 ball. Then your bench is

PG = NATE
SG = Q
SF = BALKMAN
PF = LEE
C = CURRY ( Plays only in situations that are beneficial like big slow front lines )

We could have done what I said. If Lee was the target for Memphis explain to me how Lee>Mayo when Minny always wanted Love? Memphis knew what was going on between us 3. Instead we wanted them to give away their 5th pick and Mayo for Lee. That's how you have to look at it. We should have offered up #6 to them and something else to get the deal done. Memphis knew we wanted #5 and #6 and they weren't going to let that happen. I don't think Memphis was that hard up for Lee I just think that was our best offer given, which is a Joke.

i think all of this is pure gossip. i don't believe anything without actual quotes from the people involved. sources mean sh t to me. hell, i'm a source.

too many people leaking stuff for their own agenda. here's another scenario: knicks, hearing the reaction of the fanbase for the pick and the draft in general, needed to spin something to show that management was trying to make a big splash but couldn't and it's not their fault. it's now lee's fault. that's just a viable explanation as lee actually refusing to sign an extension in memphis. can't believe anything. so let's not take this report and run with it like it's true.

the FACT is that the knicks have galinari, have david lee, and have said that people in the knicks don't think lee can fit with d'antoni. they don't have mayo. now let's see what this "new" management crew does now.

the team WILL get better b/c it can't get worse. i just have no idea how much better but knicks fans should temper expectations if they want to like the team.

Couldn't agree more too often we run with what we want to believe instead of looking at the actual results. Besides Mchale did actually admit 2 days before the draft he was going to move down in the draft, which means he more than likely had a deal in place with Memphis. Because there was nothing that suggested we had a deal for Sota.

Chad Ford just reports that the trade discussions took place after the picks were made but it seems like GMs knew what his thoughts were.

1) Lee was doing what was best for Lee. He's a young man who didn't want to live in Memphis. He used his leverage to get what he wanted. I'm sorry if anyone's offended by that, but if you are, just put yourself in his position.

2) The team was utterly stupid for letting it be known that Lee wasn't a good fit and that they were going to try to trade him. There's nothing more to be said about that.

Lee gets paid millions of dollars to play basketball. What do you think the chances are that he signs with us for less money so that he can stay in NY? If he really did that then he acted selfishly and I want him gone NOW.

Generally speaking, any other player in Lee's position would have done the same and it does happen all the time, we just don't hear about it.

do you really think Lee told Memphis I am not going to sign if you trade for me. If MDA has been scouting the Italian since he was four that was the man they wanted the whole time everything else was a smoke screen. What really happened was Walsh had a trade with Miami for Beasley but Lee heard about it while eating a plantain sandwich in Miami called Pat and pulled the plug. Lee also shot JFK and is living with Elvis in White Plains. Trade Lee and play Danilo, Zach, and Eddy inside in this system and have fun watching
