There are alot of problems with this pick. I think the biggest is that D'Antoni wanted a guard and they were available. He has not endorsed this pick in anyway. He has said that the Knicks have had their eye on Gallinari for along time. He also said he needed an engine to run his system. If D'Antoni is going to be successful he needs to have a voice in who the Knicks acquire. As I said earlier, I think there were alot of guys with more talent who fit the needs of the Knicks. This was the sixth pick.

You keep reading stuff into what D'Antoni wanted when in reality none of us have any idea who thought what. I saw the same interview you did with D'Antoni, and heres a quote..."He's our pick because he's the most talented player and has the potential to be a star". Direct quote with Wendi Nix while the Spurs were on the clock at 26, just lifted from my TiVo. And of course you're gonna say "well what do you expect him to say?" And that is true, but he didn't seem down at all about the pick and heaped excessive praise on him when it wasn't necessary. So to paint it as if he was downtrodden because he didnt get augustine is just wrong

The Knicks aren't in any rush to find a PG right now. This is a team with a million problems and they need talent period regardless of what position that talent plays. They thought Gallinari brought more talent to the table than Augustine and thats why hes a Knick

I am not sure if he wanted Augustine. I think he wanted a guard. My guess would be that he wanted Bayless.

Bayless is according to many a tweener and he also got destroyed in 4 head to head matchups against 2 of the guards who went ahead of him in this draft (Mayo and Westbrook). Not just outplayed, but destroyed.

my first choice was Alexander based on what was one the board... however I think the Knicks took the BPA plain and simple.

isiah stripped the cupboard bare. it's going to be a slow, agonizing process of acquiring assets and trying to get some flexibility. i just SERIOUSLY question whether Gallinari is a fluid, worthwhile asset. Alexander or Bayless would have been such assets.

it's like we're not even part of the league. All these other teams making moves, and we can't do anything.

Its funny how Isiah gets the blame when, it was initially Layden who created this fiasco. Deals aside, Walsh selecting Danilo Gallinari was not influenced by Zeke.

He made the pick, and left two viable solutions to our backcourt on the board. His reasoning was "upside"??? Now he is gonna play Power Forward???? Danilo has been reported as having "No lateral movement" and Not a Strong Defender by any accounts. Is that what we need next to Eddy Curry?

Cmon, this pick was a favor for a friend (D'Antoni and Gallinari's pop)... The more I think about it, the more discouraged I am about the direction of this franchise. No D high offense teams do not win championships. D'Antoni is gonna have us score 100 plus, but opposing teams are gonna drop 110ppg on NYK.

Another lateral move!

But Layden didn't pull the trigger on the Marbury deal, Isiah did. And no matter how much Layden destroyed us, NOBODY destroyed and embarrassed this Knicks franchise worse than Stephon Marbury has over the past 7 years.

Anyway, it didn't really matter who we drafted (unless we got the #1 pick) in this draft because we still have an entire roster filled with GARBAGE. Can't put a shiny bow on a pile of dog sh!t and expect it to smell like roses.

So you are basically saying you don't like the pick because Dino may not project to be the best defender. Almost as if the Knicks are a good offensive team already, and couldn't use a guy who has the potential to be a 20+ ppg scorer in the league and who can handle/pass and shoot it with range

Heres a news flash, this Knick team can't guard anyone, but they can't score either. They were 21st in the league in scoring, 28th in Field Goal percentage, 27th in points per shot attempt, 27th in 3-point FG%, our most consistent long range shooter is Nate Robinson. Nate Robinson!

Im sorry there was no player on the board at 6 who could shoot it like Dirk and defend like Pippen in his prime

Layden killed the team with the Camby trade.

Isiah basically just held serve. We're in the same situation we were in before he got here.

Dumb thing is that the Marbs, KT, team was marginally good. He could have stopped there.

He got caught up in the NY imaptient attitude and you can't do that as a GM.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

No not exactly! What I am saying is simple.. If Walsh is selecting based on the idea of choosing the BPA, then I'd feel more confident by going with what you know. (Gordon and Bayless). We all have had an opportunity to see their talent levels; your statement is misleading.. It lends me to believe that either one is incapable of avg 20ppg. Im sure MOST PEOPLE would agree that Eric Gordon is nice, as is Jerryd Bayless.

Can we say the same thing about DG based on a few video clips? Yeah so we heard that he has the potential to score 20ppg, and has proven that he has an ability to produce in a league that avoids physical styles of play. Great! Is that how our league is played though? I've seen Eric Gordon and I know he initiates contact with his body, Jerryd Bayless maybe not so much. Both can shoot pretty well, maybe not better than DG but again that remains to be seen. Bayless has the best pull up jumper in the draft. Brandon Rush may be the best set shot. Eric Gordon didn't shoot lights out when he got hurt.. but he played, thats toughness we lack. Gordon or Bayless good have been justified as pick #6

Just so you know, If my thinking was purely focusing on the defensive end, neither of those two players would be considered defensive standouts and would not be my selection.. however they do project to be better defensively than DG. Why.. long wingspans, and better lateral movement. Not me saying this, words of the scouts. I don't like having DG play power forward for us because we have Eddy Curry. We complain about the Curry/Randolph tandem... but in effect we are creating the same scenario. Most reports have said that DG does not play D! The positive is, I'd venture to guess that Gallinari may not be the black hole that Zach Randolph is in a half court set.

As far as your news flash, you are absolutely correct in posting the NYK Stats. More of a reason why having a PF that can not be an intimidator play next to Eddy Curry is a structural flaw... and an out an out lateral move just to replace Z-Bo. It will not help improve our defense. Pointing our that DG shoots well, great... but remember he was in a shooting exhibition uncontested. Will that pan out in the league, when he has KG or Rash Weed, Chris Bosh d'ing him up?

No shooters like Dirk or defender's like Pippen.. perhaps. But Anthony Randolph was available.. he plays D and can shoot? Why not give him a look?

You are basically saying here that you don't like Gallinari because you haven't seen him play much and would rather go with a sure thing. Well, if Walsh, and D'Antoni and the Knicks scouts had seen as little of Gallinari as you have and decided to make the pick anyway I'd be concerned. But organizations, even ones as crappy as the Knicks, don't make decisions that way. They have seen this guy play a lot and thought he was the best player available, thats why they chose him. Im keeping an open mind about this and am not going to distrust the new regime just because the last decade has been horrible, and im not going to hate on a european just because we took Frederic Weis 8 years ago

As for the stuff about his defense, plenty of people who have seen Gallinari have said that hes not by any stretch a bad defensive player.

Lets let him see the court before we form these opinions about his game from some youtube clips

Also, you make the Euro League level of play sound garbage. The Euro League would wipe the floor with the big ten and the pac 10, the conferences of gordon and bayless

I see your point, but.. my assumption is on the basis of team needs. Like I've said throughout all of these threads.. The Rooster is an unknown. I don't know what he'll be.. I can hope that he is good as a Knicks fan. In terms of him being the pick and a great fit @ PF for this current team.. I think it was not the best move. Could still very well be a good move though. Hopefully, their will be a major overall of the current roster to justify playing Curry and DG in the frontcourt

Say what you want but the one thing the knicks have that alot of teams don't, is Money!! They should have bought a late 1st rounder!!!! The jury is still out on Walsh and D'antoni.

Heres where we have a difference of opinion... I personally don't care about team needs at this point, and i was approaching the draft with that mind set. Who really cares how this pick will fit in with a bunch of guys who won't be on the team with him by the time hes 22-23 years old? We're gonna suck for the next 2-3 years and there's really no way around that. This pick was the first step in the molding of a roster that will look drastically different three years from now. Gallinari may not sound like a great fit with the current Knicks, but by the time he's good enough to be a difference maker (assuming he will be for the sake of argument), hes not going to be playing with the current Knicks

Unknown to who? To you? Okay be honest, how many times have you really sat and watched Arizona and Indiana this year? I'm a college basketball junky and I've only seen Bayless play 3 times. 2 of the game I saw were actually 2 of his worse games. My point is, most of these guys are unkown.

Yes Unknown to me... and I'm sure to you as well. Have you seen Gallinari play before? Ever??? I' an very familiar w/ Bayless... I've watched enough AZ college basketball, and I know enough about him from his H.S. days to at least form an opinion. You saw 2 games... but thats still 2 more than DG. You made an opinion based on those 2 games, right? How can you justify, selecting DG when you have no basis.. Thats all Im saying now.. That's all I've been saying!

I want him to succeed, WHY because I am a Knicks fan. I just believe that their were other players to choose IMO before going with Gallinari. I stand by that. Until this guy is on the court I can't say he will be the impact player that Walsh projects. I can say that Gordon and Bayless will have bright futures in the NBA, I have seen enough of them to formulate an educated opinion
