new gm, new coach. walsh has stated that he would like to be a player in free agency in 3 years. the roster needs to be overhauled and that will take time. knicks have their own #1 in 2008 (#6 pick). they have their own #1 in 2009. they have no first round pick in 2010. unless moves are made to cut salary, the earliest the team can be way under the cap is the summer of 2011. so where do you think this team should be entering the 2011/2012 season? 1 - fringe playoff team (think golden state) 2 - perennial playoff team but not a true contender (think utah/wizards) 3 - championship contender (think detroit/boston/lakers/spurs) 4 - other (specify)
fringe playoff team
perennial playoff team
championship contender
other

Have we forgotten that the last time the Knicks won a playoff game was 2001 thats 10 years. I won't claim to speak for anyone else but thats too ****ing long and absolute disgrace.

Last time I checked 2001 was 7 years ago lol.

New coach, new President, and a new rebuild plan. Unless things change I do not see Walsh accomplishing what he said he would. I believe he made a big mistake in hiring D'Antoni. I do not think D'Antoni will hold up with the scrutiny and constant criticism he will receive. I think Walsh underestimated how hard it is to work with Dolan.

if we don't make any moves to improve & rely on our draft picks:

'08 - 37 wins
'09 - 39 wins
'10 - 42 wins
'11 - 45 wins

if we make moves to cut payroll now & target a bigname in 2010:

'08 - 33 wins
'09 - 36 wins
'10 - 49 wins
'11 - 54 wins & championship contender

if we go all in for guys like Michael Redd & Baron Davis now:

'08 - 44 wins
'09 - 40 wins
'10 - 36 wins
'11 - 33 wins & an overpaid roster w/no cap flexibility (sounds familiar)

A big name coming to a 36 win team umm thats a BIG NO. And then when that happens it begins all over again get cap flexibility in 2014 when Chris Paul is a free-agent, then it turns into get cap flexibility in 2017 when Brandon Roy becomes a free-agent, and on and on we go.

yeah why fall off the beaten path that's brought us to so much success, eh bitty? let's go the Michael Redd/Baron Davis route & end up right where we are now in 4 years... can't wait for that.

I don't know about those two particular players but the Knicks should be thinking about winning right now.

Because if the Knicks aren't winning by 2010 landing a big-free agent will be a ridiculous notion. Unless he's a disloyal greedy bastard who doesn't care that he's heading to a team that hasn't won a playoff game in 10 seasons. Yup thats sounds ideal situation to a guy whose looking to win a NBA Championship.

Well put. I totally agree.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System
