I just heard that this trade is not yet final...

If KVH is a Knick then we're done when it comes to defense.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the people who are happy with this trade are people who've never really seen KVH play regularly like I unfortunately have (season tix to NJ). This is a day that will live in infamy.

Housless should be happy tho. About 2 months into the season KVH will have officially replaced him as NY's whoopin boy. Hell, I might even give it a rest! (No, probably not.) I can hear the excuses now, tho:

- He has to learn Chaney's system
- It's not his job to rebound, it's to score
- It's not his job to score, that's Houston's!
- He IS aggresive, it's that Williams doesn't get him the ball enuff
- His defense IS good, it's just that KT doesn't rotate quickly enuff
- Houston and KVH need to learn to play together
- They both take the same shots!

We should be glad too. This trade will provide forum fodder for MONTHS!!

Spree - Congratulations, man, you made it over the wall!! Don't look back, just keep running!!!

You know what? This trade seals it. The draft day, when everybody was giving LayDUMB mostly good grades, was the equivalent of Shaq hitting a three point shot. You know it can happen, but you also know:

It was a fluke.

Just the law of averages working out. Nothing more, nothing less.

Scott LayDown is the fluke, necrom...
We have a joke and a fluke for a GM (and the same goes for the owner).

First off McHale is a liar. He said he neve would want anyone on the Knicks roster. Of course when you get an ALL-Star caliber 2 guard for an about to retire player, why not?

What does this trade say about Van Horn? Philly traded Mutombo to get him and then realized the mistake so they traded him away for Big Dog! Wow!

Spree, we will miss your tenacity! Good luck in Minnesota!

Cassell, Spree, Sczerbiak, Garnett and Kandi.....not too shabby!

Eisley, Houston, Van Corn, Spoon, KT.....eh?

Which team would you rather have starting a game?

Hey GoNYgoNYgo...

Even a blind man can see who has the upper hand with that comparison.

It's time to start an organized resistance against Scott LayDown.

The Knicks are gonna be alright.

For those who believe that the Layden should be fired for this, I just don't get you. Did you truly expect the team to stay the same (with the exception of our draft picks) for the next two seasons just to let Sprewell's salary to come off the books? COME ON!

As a Knicks fan (and not as a home GM), this trade gives me some optimism and hope for this season and the future. How will KVH perform? Will he be the X-factor? What will our draft picks do? Finding out the answers to these questions is what makes me, as a fan, hyped up to watch the games, buy tickets, get a KVH jersey, and get on ultimateknicks.com.

Without the story, it's no fun. If we keep Sprewell for another 2 seasons, think about how boring it'd be, how we'll get worse and worse as our players age, only with the hope that in 5 years we may sign a free agent (who may or may not pan out)... and how apathetic we'd be watching the Nets go uncontested en route to the finals again and again.

In 2 years, Sprewell will be averaging 12ppg, 2apg, 2rpg in 28 minutes as a Lucious Harris-type "super sub". In 3 years, maybe he'll be like Steve Smith, sitting on the bench in the finals watching some guys who have bounced around NBA and abroad take his minutes away.

Techno - you have solid points.

There's a lot of unchartered territory here. A lot of stuff we have to WAIT in order to know for sure. I know everyone would be complaining if NO moves were made. This trade doesn't hurt our cap situation for the next decade, it doesn't make us smaller, and Spree is past his peak, where KVH has a chance to break out. (Who knows? Maybe if we don't welcome him with BOOS at the Garden, he might feel wanted for once.)

Let's sit tight, and wait for December to start complaining.

At least we'll have tons to talk about on the boards.

Blue and Orange, y'all.

No, LayDown shouldn't be fired for just this. We all are aware of the atrocities LayDown has committed since he's been GM. If we trade Spree for someone who maybe has a little defense, maybe some handle, a little more agressive, etc., it would benefit us. We just traded our best defender for a cat with no D whatsoever.

I am looking far and wide for optimism here... I just don't see it materializing. The nets had good reason to get rid of him. So did the sixers. Personally, trading Spree for this guy is a smack in the face to both Spree, the Knicks and the fans. I am wondering who the #1 pick next draft will be because we have a damn good chance at him now. I am imagining how many games we will get blownout of our own court because KVH and Allan will be competing to be the best 3-point shooter while the red carpet will be laid out in the paint for all to come and get their highlights @ MSG. That KVH jersey might as well have a bullseye on it.

It would be much more fun seeing Spree either have a comeback year on the Knicks or trade him for for someone else than trading him for another no D-having jump shooter chuckin' up outside shots while the opposition tear our rims down.

Who's to say that KVH will do much better on the Knicks this season?!? In 2 years we have a better chance at getting the #1 overall pick. Now THAT just might happen.

We traded the heart of our team for a bust.

We have no choice but to take some chances...What if the tin man gets a lube?

Ok - that sounds weird, but you get the point. Remember when Spree was the cancer nobody wanted to come here? Especially when our HEART - JOHN STARKS, was a part of the deal?

Amazing how stuff can change...let's see what happens...

KVH will NEVER feel more at welcome than he did when he first joined NJ, and we know what happened there. The man was red-carpeted from Day One, hailed as the franchise's savior.

Let's get this straight, this is a cat who couldn't produce next to jkidd, kmart, iverson, cassell, marbury... yet playing with Allan Housless in NY is going to make him a baller all of a sudden? A player whose numbers last year aren't as good as Spree's (or career-wise) even when Spree is playing out of position or being blasted for "being on the decline", or just plain had a bad year. Except for shooting percentages and rebounds that is. Obviously we all know KVH is a better shooter, no doubt there.

Every excuse has been used for this cat. He couldn't life NJ out of the bottom of the barrel, with or without help. He couldn't produce when jkidd and kmart finally carried that team to the Finals. And last year in Philly had single-digit scoring games in 5 out of 6 playoff games in the second round! TWO whole points in the elimination game!! For chrissakes, look at the stats!!

He couldn't produce in and out of the spotlight. With or without help. Leading or being a role player... Yeah, being in NY will somehow turn him around...

Van Horn’s Toughness??????? My T.V must have been drunk all these years and showing me a different Van Horn.

More like KVH real estate agent is tough. Considering all the work he has been given seeing as how he Van Horn keeps getting dumped in a new city each year…speaking of which, the Nets give up on him, the Sixers realize they made a huge mistake, so where do they turn? Good Ol Laydown, who has turned the Knicks into the worlds most expensive junkyard. Don’t want your worthless high priced talent, send it over here we’ll let them rot in the Garden.

The Red Sox sold Babe Ruth, they’re cursed…So what did we do to deserve this…Was it the Charles Smith trade for Mark Jackson? Patrick Ewing’s hideous 90’s Fade? The strip club sex scandal…what was it!?! What did I do to deserve Layden as a G.M and Dolan as a boss

What did I do to deserve Eisely as a starting point guard with a 40 million dollar deal…Shandon, Spoon. Othella, Knight, Felton, Luc Longley, a fat Glen Rice…A team so boring and stale it makes Marie Osmond look like Lil Kim…oh sweet Jesus!!!!

Knicks Meeting : Don Chaney “Layden what do we need on this team?” Layden: “Lets see, how about another power forward who cant dunk, and another soft shooting player who wouldn’t step in the paint if there was a buck naked Carmen Electra sprawled across it” Chaney: “OTAY”

So all Layden had to do was put the final nail in the coffin this off season, and boy he didn’t disappoint. First he drafts the next Othella Harrington with the #9 pick, I mean kid doesn’t have an athletic bone in his body, and now he swings a deal to bring a soft overpaid jump shot only (We just needed another one of those) Van Horn whose last two organizations probably threw ticker tape parades when he went out the door…Mission Accomplished Layden.

To think this year I get to watch Eisely push the ball as fast as Christopher Reeve, Spoon get swatted in the paint with a young Sweetney as his apprentice, Othella screaming every time he is glanced at, H20’s matador cape, and now add Van Horn to the mix, who will be lousy and sulk when the fans call him on it. All this “joy” while I watch almost every other team in the NBA operate with an embarrassment of Superstars and athletic players who fly and dunk like they were playing on Nerf.

I need money, cause its going to take some serious booze and drugs to get through this season and keep my t.v from flying out the window!

P.S Why is HardcoreKF a hater? Layden gets paid 4 million to take advantage to the James Indolent malaise whose credo is get along at all costs!! The Knicks have assembled an ennui ridden overpaid roster that couldn’t even make the playoffs in a dilapidated Eastern Conference and we are supposed to grab our pom poms and cover our eyes to this madness. If that works for you, cool…send your resume to the Knicks front office

Anyone listen to Howard Stern today? Puffy was on there and said that he WANTS TO BUY THE KNICKS!!!

I rather have someone who knows about business like P Diddy than that jack@$$ Dolan who has Cablevision so in the red that he took away the free MSG and FSN and made them pay channels. Such lunacy it is unbelievable!!!

At least P Diddy wants to make the team better. I say sell him the Knicks. He has the money for it. Why not? He sure as hell wouldn't let a retard like Laydown make stupid mistakes like he did in the past. He would have fired him one year into the contract.

P Diddy would be the Steinbrenner of the NBA.....tough, demanding respect, and would bleed for his team.

But let's be real on BOTH ends of this trade. Spree only means something if he's playing for a ring, which he just might be doing this season, who knows?

This ain't about KVH, It's about Houston's contract. The contract that sent Spree packing. If the salaries were equal, and the deals ended on the same date, we'd be looking at a Houston-for KVH trade.

Anyone doubt that?

Everything that happens for the next two seasons is moot, and we know it. These guys will be off the books when we really challenge for a title, so why get all riled up about it?

Plus...Where are all the Spree-Haters? Speak up! I figured you guys would be dancing by now.

Fact is we still need centers.

IT IS OVER...LAYDEN HAS FINALLY KILLED THE HEART AND SOUL OF A TEAM I ONCE CARED ABOUT...KVH IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE...I WOULDNT TRADE CHARLIE WARD FOR KVH...SPREWELL WAS THE KNICKS...AND NOW WE HAVE HOUSTON AND KVH ..A ONE TWO PUNCH OF SOFTIES THE NBA HAS NEVER SEEN B4...I ACTUALLY FEEL SICK THAT OUR LEADER IS GONE... I THINK ITS TIME TO FIND A NEW TEAM TO ROOT FOR...MAYBE EVEN SPREE AND KG...R.I.P. KNICKS 7/22/03

Excellent Eulogy...

But I see no reason you can't root for both...

It's highly unlikely that they'll meet in the finals this year, so no biggie.

The heart and soul of the Knicks was Charles Oakley. Since then, we've just had some guys keeping the chair warm.

It'll change when we get some of that salary back. But not before then. Thank Layden for not letting (stubborn) Ewing fall off the books.
