The Knicks are gonna be alright.

For those who believe that the Layden should be fired for this, I just don't get you. Did you truly expect the team to stay the same (with the exception of our draft picks) for the next two seasons just to let Sprewell's salary to come off the books? COME ON!

No, LayDown shouldn't be fired for just this. We all are aware of the atrocities LayDown has committed since he's been GM. If we trade Spree for someone who maybe has a little defense, maybe some handle, a little more agressive, etc., it would benefit us. We just traded our best defender for a cat with no D whatsoever.

As a Knicks fan (and not as a home GM), this trade gives me some optimism and hope for this season and the future. How will KVH perform? Will he be the X-factor? What will our draft picks do? Finding out the answers to these questions is what makes me, as a fan, hyped up to watch the games, buy tickets, get a KVH jersey, and get on ultimateknicks.com.

I am looking far and wide for optimism here... I just don't see it materializing. The nets had good reason to get rid of him. So did the sixers. Personally, trading Spree for this guy is a smack in the face to both Spree, the Knicks and the fans. I am wondering who the #1 pick next draft will be because we have a damn good chance at him now. I am imagining how many games we will get blownout of our own court because KVH and Allan will be competing to be the best 3-point shooter while the red carpet will be laid out in the paint for all to come and get their highlights @ MSG. That KVH jersey might as well have a bullseye on it.

Without the story, it's no fun. If we keep Sprewell for another 2 seasons, think about how boring it'd be, how we'll get worse and worse as our players age, only with the hope that in 5 years we may sign a free agent (who may or may not pan out)... and how apathetic we'd be watching the Nets go uncontested en route to the finals again and again.

It would be much more fun seeing Spree either have a comeback year on the Knicks or trade him for for someone else than trading him for another no D-having jump shooter chuckin' up outside shots while the opposition tear our rims down.

In 2 years, Sprewell will be averaging 12ppg, 2apg, 2rpg in 28 minutes as a Lucious Harris-type "super sub". In 3 years, maybe he'll be like Steve Smith, sitting on the bench in the finals watching some guys who have bounced around NBA and abroad take his minutes away.

Who's to say that KVH will do much better on the Knicks this season?!? In 2 years we have a better chance at getting the #1 overall pick. Now THAT just might happen.

Techno - you have solid points.

There's a lot of unchartered territory here. A lot of stuff we have to WAIT in order to know for sure. I know everyone would be complaining if NO moves were made. This trade doesn't hurt our cap situation for the next decade, it doesn't make us smaller, and Spree is past his peak, where KVH has a chance to break out. (Who knows? Maybe if we don't welcome him with BOOS at the Garden, he might feel wanted for once.)

Let's sit tight, and wait for December to start complaining.

At least we'll have tons to talk about on the boards.

What did I do to deserve Eisely as a starting point guard with a 40 million dollar deal…Shandon, Spoon. Othella, Knight, Felton, Luc Longley, a fat Glen Rice…A team so boring and stale it makes Marie Osmond look like Lil Kim…oh sweet Jesus!!!!

So all Layden had to do was put the final nail in the coffin this off season, and boy he didn’t disappoint. First he drafts the next Othella Harrington with the #9 pick, I mean kid doesn’t have an athletic bone in his body, and now he swings a deal to bring a soft overpaid jump shot only (We just needed another one of those) Van Horn whose last two organizations probably threw ticker tape parades when he went out the door…Mission Accomplished Layden.

To think this year I get to watch Eisely push the ball as fast as Christopher Reeve, Spoon get swatted in the paint with a young Sweetney as his apprentice, Othella screaming every time he is glanced at, H20’s matador cape, and now add Van Horn to the mix, who will be lousy and sulk when the fans call him on it. All this “joy” while I watch almost every other team in the NBA operate with an embarrassment of Superstars and athletic players who fly and dunk like they were playing on Nerf.

I need money, cause its going to take some serious booze and drugs to get through this season and keep my t.v from flying out the window!

P.S Why is HardcoreKF a hater? Layden gets paid 4 million to take advantage to the James Indolent malaise whose credo is get along at all costs!! The Knicks have assembled an ennui ridden overpaid roster that couldn’t even make the playoffs in a dilapidated Eastern Conference and we are supposed to grab our pom poms and cover our eyes to this madness.
