I recall Don Nelson wanting to trade Starks for Del Negro. Checketts didn't think it was such a good idea.

He benched Starks for Hubert Davis. Nelson never got over the fact that he cut Starks when he was with Golden State and Starks came back to have a good career in New York. Nelson had too big of an ego.

The fact that Phoenix had a coaching position open and didn't even consider him is very telling to me.....
