Personally I would like to trade into the top 3 to get dibs on whoever falls between Beasley, Rose, and Mayo. I would also lie to add another top 10-12 pick like Portland did when they got Aldridge and Roy. This would also be the only circumstances that I would consider trading Lee.
The way I see it right now:
-Rose is the obvious top choice for Chicago.
-I have a feeling Beasley will fall at FARTHEST to #5(Memphis). Let me play this out for you guys.
>I see Chicago going Rose #1.
>Miami may or may not trade down, but they won't trade down lower than 6(the lowest where Mayo will drop, IMO). If their Mayo love is true, they have Minny as an option(depending on if Minny wants Beasley), Seattle(They love Bayless and already have Durant and Green), Memphis(who I think would love to take Beasley-If he wants to play for them). The Knicks at 6 actually make the most sense as a partner for Miami because we can trade up to get Beasley, we have the young players (Balk, Chandler, Lee, Nate, Curry) to get the #2 if packaged with the #6 and It takes us out of the Mayo running. Miami can surprise everyone and take Mayo #2 if his leadership/mental approach make up the difference in skill between him and Beasley.
>Minny will not take a guard, imo. They need a C or a PF to pair with Jefferson. Lopez may be a reach, but he is the best center available right now. Can't rule out a guy like Randolph here either being Minny is so young he will have time to develop.
>Seattle will take Bayless.
>Memphis needs to find out who wants to play for them. If they take the pick I see Love or Lopez going here. In all honesty I don't see them taing this pick. I will say this. I see Philly (who wants to trade into the top 5 maybe making a deal here. If Philly does trade in here, I see them taking a guy like Eric Gordon or Mayo. They have Thad Young and will have a resigned Iggy. No way they go big unless they trade up to take Lopez and get rid of Dalembert.
>NY. If I was Walsh I trade up to the top 3 with Minny. Maybe offer Curry and the 6 for Antoine Walker and the 3. Minny can still grab any of the names we keep hearing they like, have a compliment to Jefferson to move him to PF and we get Beasley or Mayo. We also still have Lee and Randolph to package(or Lee and Balkman or Lee and Chandler) to move back into the top 10 to grab a guy like Jordan or Gordon or whoever.
[Edited by - joec32033 on 04 June 2008 16:13] I agree - I think we need to try to move up aggressively. I think its a little odd but the Miami pick does look to be up for grabs. I would start with Lee and the #6. And go as far as David Lee, #6, Nate Robinson, and Marbury (22 mil in expiring) for Mark Blount, Udonis Haslem, Marcus Banks and the #2 (Beasley). Alternatively, if you wait and Mayo, in fact, falls to 6, then maybe you have more leverage. Maybe then, you can get away with just Mayo + Lee for Beasley.
The plus is that only Banks ($4.5 mil) extends into 2010-11 and, without Lee's impending extension, we retain the option of handing out a max contract in 2010.
I'd want another pick in the top 10 to grab Westbrook but its likely we won't have any bait left at that point. Maybe Malik Rose (7 mil in expiring), Wilson Chandler + next years pick (top 12 protected) for Bobby Simmons (10 mil through 2010) + #8. Are you that convinced that Beasely is for real? That's a lot to give up and take back.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System
