I see Augustin as a better distributor than Nelson. The only thing is that we just can't have him AND Nate on the same team. It's just too much of a mismatch to into every game so small. I'm a big guard fan myself. I almost never look for a small PG when there's a big guard available.

With Westbrook you really don't know what kind of PG he'll develop into but guys like him do make the transition. Tony Parker is a perfect example of that. He's no Nash, but you can win with him. Westbroooks defensive strength would be a major asset to this team so he might be worth the risk.

On realgm we were throwing out some comparisons and Jameer's name came up. This was like 3mos ago. I was thinking if his upside could be slightly better than Jameer then you definitely could live with him being your starting point guard. Others were laughing at this thought and I was thinking why Jameer is a starting point guard for and up and coming Orlando Magic team.

The reason why Orlando is good is because of their frontline--its their guards who sck

Dude Jameer had big games in the playoffs did you watch or do you just blow him off because you don't particularly care for him?

New York

Russell Westbrook
Position: PG
Height: 6-3
Weight: 189
Age: 19
School: UCLA
The skinny: The Knicks want a lead guard who can push the ball and hit an open jumper. Derrick Rose, O.J. Mayo and Jerryd Bayless are their top choices, but if they are off the board, New York will have a tough choice to make.

I had Danilo Gallinari here in the first two versions of this mock draft, thanks to his Italian ties with Mike D'Antoni.

But a Suns source told me that D'Antoni wasn't a huge fan of Gallinari's game when he was shown some tape during the season, which has made me seriously reconsider that forecast.

In the past two mock drafts, I've had two different guys in this spot -- D.J. Augustin and Anthony Randolph.

But after talking to the Knicks, I would say the two guys who now appear to stand out are Russell Westbrook and Joe Alexander.

Westbrook already worked out in New York, and I hear he was impressive. The team liked the way Westbrook handled himself on the court. His length, speed, athleticism and defense wowed them. And he shot the ball better than expected.

Alexander is a superathletic forward who has competed very hard in workouts. That's attractive to teams, but he still has some issues -- in particular, in terms of his basketball IQ, which he still needs to develop.

So this week, Westbrook is our choice. But we reserve the right to change it (again) next week.

Westbrook is a tremendous athlete, defender, finisher, but is just an average jump shooter. At 6'3, 190, obviously he has to learn to run the point in the league for his survival.

If he could play the point, I mean really play the point, not just bring the ball over half court, but get players involved and make the game easier for them, then we would have a steal. Because of his other attributes, if he can adapt to the point, he can arguably emerge as the best all around guard in this draft.

But thats a big IF. We've seen plenty of small 2 guards excell in the Ncaa's on the fail miserably when they try to convert into pg's in the NBA. Hopefully, Westbrook can be one of the few who can learn to play the point in the league. Westbrook definitely fills a need defensively in the backcourt.

The Knicks could gamble on one of the next two point guards on the board. D.J. Augustin is a great leader, a fantastic playmaker and the closest thing to Steve Nash in this draft. That's going to be a plus for Mike D'Antoni. Russell Westbrook is also intriguing. He's a top-notch athlete, a tenacious defender and an emerging playmaker.

The other choice might be to go with the best player available. In my mind, that would be Anthony Randolph.

Sorry I didn't need to make it an Off Topic thread... it's all about our Knicks at 6.

I think Chad is Enternally a Fraud but notice from his 3 suspected choices No Danilo Gallinari? Interesting I'd say Anyway can someone please strike up the endless Youtube videos on Augustin and Westbrook because this is who our org could be hinting at drafting and it's time to get on the bandwagon it moves rather quickly.

I always thought that Westbrook should be the Knick's pick at 6, so I guess you could say that Im already on that Bandwagon. I don't like Augusin though. From what I've seen he's short, weak, and not really all that talented.

Augustine reminds me of Brevin Knight with a jumper.....which isn't a bad thing.

The only part of IT's success was a good deal of drafting. IMHO he would take Randolph but nobody is going to be upset with Westbrook

I know it's high comedy to me FRAUD says Westbrook's stock is rising landing him all the way at 6! Ummmmm rising from where? Oh that's right on most mocks he was projected 11-13. Meanwhile I see on mocks now Randolph is hovering around the pick 12 range. Randolph said during his MSG interview he was hearing he could go as high as 2 and as low as 12. Joe Alexander was in the 12-15 range as of last week now he's a Top 8 pick. DeAndre Jordan is now consistently below 16 but what if 3yrs from now he's Bynum or better? Kosta Koufos outworks Kevin Love in a recent workout hmmmm a projected Top 5 pick within a span of 2 weeks, has now had fits with two player projected picks 16 and below in Dorsey and Koufos.

Although Phx GM said he'd trade Barbosa and/or Diaw for a pick above or below 15 because the draft is so deep, I have to keep reminding myself the draft is only 13 deep. This is even after a lot players have pulled out.

if the opportunity to trade down to anywhere in the teens to unload Zach's contract presents itself we should take it IMHO... we can nab a talented player AND set ourselves up well longterm capwise in the process.

trading up to #3 is also an option... i think the worst thing we can do right now is stand pat at #6 & do nothing... just MHO.

We don't have a leader/impact player who has the mind and game to be the face of the franchise or at least share in that role. At 6 you have to be looking for someone like that if you can. To me we can't really complain about any of these guys in terms of being a good player in the NBA. As for which guy will be a LEAD player, we have only a few options and our chances are slim we'll get one of those guys.

Rose
Beasely
Mayo
Bayless

Love
Gallinari
Westbrook
Randolph
Gordon

I don't see that much wrong with Ford's changing his draft order. Isn't that what everyone does this early? It's not just about what they did during the college season, but also the NCAA and the post season workouts etc. On closer examination players get a boost of downgrade for a lot of reasons and you can't know all of that from a few college games.

Only way to get a leader is hope and pray that Brook Lopez is chosen by the T-Wolves. That might allow one of the leader type player to fall into the Knicks lap. Or make a trade with the Wolves. They are interested in Lopez they worked him out for two day in a row couple of weeks ago. And they plan on watching him again when they go to see Galinari and Mayo practice for other teams in LA. They worked Brook out a lot compared to other players so they may be high on him.

Yeah I'm hoping they don't go for BPA and instead look to fill a need. They need a C and I hope Brook played his butt off for them

The only way to insure that we get a Mayo or Bayless is to somehow trade up and I'm not sure that's gonna be possible. Maybe Miami will look to try and parlay their pick into more and trade down.
