If we really want Sergio and the 13th pick we'll have to pony up more than just Lee. We might have to take back Przybilla's contract, give them Malik's expiring contract, maybe give them a re-signed Randolph Morris to sweeten it up a bit. Something along those lines....

Can we trade for #13 and use it to satisfy the pick we still owe?

I'm sure but it's too high a pick for that now. I'd concentrate on building a team first, settle my debt with Utah 2nd. Can't walk away from the 13th pick when you're trying to build a team. When the time comes when our back's up against the wall and we have to pony up, you trade for/purchase the lowest possible pick you can then flip it to Utah - remember that pick we owe the Jazz is top 22 protected through next years draft.

You know what Oasis, my bad, who even knows if you can do that. I'm not sure. I bet it would have to be the Knicks actual selection slot for that year unless Utah waives this and decides to go with another 1st rounder the Knicks are offering. For example, say this year, we own #6 ourselves and wind up acquiring #13. Utah's gonna want #6....Not sure how that would work....

No problem - I am not sure how it would work either but I like your logic if its possible.

I think you could - but you would have to get Utah to basically trade it back to us.

Theoretically, Utah would get stuck with our pick next year - I believe the protection is to the 20 range.

i would think if portland is trading #13, it would be for a player already in the league.
