Listen majorleads, we've all (myself included) got to relax about coming up with a complete scouting report on a player after looking at some 4 min. youtube clip or reading some little write-up on a guy somewhere. These clips give you a little something but will never give you the full scoop on a guy. Come on man, you know that. You wanna laugh, there's another Bayless clip of him just shooting FTs. Only FTs.... I was like WTF am I watching???????? Also, I forgot who it was a while back, but someone posted some highlight clip of JJ skinny that made him look like an all-star. Remember that. Was very funny. Bottom line, grain of salt with these video clips OK.....
However, bottom line is, and I've been saying it for 2-3 weeks now, Bayless has got to be our guy. He definitely has the skills to run an NBA team a-la Tony Parker, Baron Davis, Stephon Marbury, Chris Paul or any other VERY GOOD OFFENSIVE-MINDED LEAD GUARD out there. He can score and he's gonna look to score and from anywhere on the court - slashing, getting to the rim/getting to the FT line/makes his FTs, pulling up mid-range stopping on a dime for two, 3-ball... ANYWHERE!!! OK, nothing wrong with that. You gotta put the ball in the hoop and D'Antoni's gonna be looking for someone to do it on a consistent basis. I think it's safe to say right now that Bayless is gonna be able to with high regularity.
And there's no doubt in my mind that the rest of his game will evolve into something special. He'll play defense because he's got the skills and he did it at Arizona. And he'll learn to pass the ball and get the ball to the right people at the right times. Believe me - D'Antoni will make sure of it. Doesn't mean he can't pass the ball or doesn't want to just because there isn't a youtube clip of him doing it. I must've watched this kid play at least 10 times this year. Trust me, he's not selfish at all and he's willing to share the ball. Remember too, beside Chase Budinger, who's a pretty nice SG prospect, Arizona pretty much had a bad team this year so a lot was asked out of Bayless, especially in the scoring department.
blueNorange brings up Chauncey Billups and that's an interesting comparison because Chauncey didn't really find his nitch in the league right away and wasn't nearly the complete player he is now. Billups made himself into a well-rounded lead guard who now, along with scoring the ball himself, puts the ball in the right people's hands at the right times - RIP, 'Sheed, Tayshaun, you name it.... Look for the same thing eventually from Bayless....
And blueNorange, good find on that info. about Bayless not wanting to return to Arizona because he wanted to be a PG.... I didn't know he said that, but that's a good bit of insight into this kid's mindset and what he wants to achieve for himself eventually.
Bayless will be a very solid pick for the Knicks. If we wind up with the 5th pick & it looks like he won't be there or was taken already, you trade up to get him. It's a no-brainer. Only way it's even an issue is if we somehow get super lucky and wind up with the 1st or 2nd pick and now the choice is between Bayless along with Rose or Beasley. But with the latter two gone, I take Bayless starting at #3 on down in this draft with no hesitation at all.
How's this backcourt:
Jerryd Bayless
*Jamal Crawford
Nate Robinson
Mardy Collins
Extremely versatile - all four guys play both guard spots and are interchangeable, deluxe scoring, youth, quickness, can go small or big, plus-sized defensive specialist with Mardy Collins...
* if we ever found a taker for Crawford we could sure up this spot even further & get even younger with a JR Smith signing or possibly look into acquiring a 2nd rounder from someone (Seattle?) and go after another shooter with size like Shan Foster, Courtney Lee, Richard Roby or Josh Shipp or a supreme athlete like JR Giddens. How'd that be?
A lot of possibilities here but it starts with getting Jerryd Bayless on board.
