Francesa: Fans and media are confused. When you came, everyone thought you were going to work to get under the cap, now you go after a coach who is a win now coach. Which way are you going?
Donnie: Disagrees with the fact that MD is a win-now coach, he's been in this situation before. He wants to find out what guys are players on this team and get them playing at a certain level. Then we have to find out what we have to add to this team to make it a competitive team. WE HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO GET UNDER THE CAP TO SIGN FREE AGENTS. The reason for singing MD was becuase he's done this before and he knows the process.

Russo: You're not going to try and hurt your cap for down the road are you?
Donnie: Our cap goal will NOT be comprised. WE WILL NOT BE TRADING EXPIRING CONTRACTS FOR 4YEAR CONTRACTS. I told Mike all this before he came here.

Donnie: If you aren't a good team when you go into the FA market, no one is going to want to sign with you. You have to have a bright look to you.

Well, that's a relief. "No expiring contracts for four year deals" - I wonder if he was directly alluding to the Marbury for Diaw/Barbosa rumor Mitch Lawrence started?

-Donnie doesn't believe that MD will lose easy. He wants to put him in a position to win games by ALWAYS PAYING ATTENTION TO THE CAP, but always paying attention to what is out there that can help us now AND down the road.

That was exactly what he was alluding to.

Francesa: Does it bother you that he and Kerr didn't get along?
Donnie: No it surprised me a little but Kerr is a new guy in the business and things like that usually happen when you are going for the championship and you don't get it done, even if you are good enough to do it.

Francesa:
You've been able to build teams without bottoming out. can you do it again?
Donnie: Knowing the team was done was a key to it. This is grunt work, you have to find out whats available, you have to find out what can make your team better and that's really it.

Sounds good so far. If they don't Isiah us (change plans every 32 seconds), then I think the majority of this board will be satisfied.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Interview over. This interview was the best thing any Knick fan could hear and is the best thing we've heard in a long time.

The biggest thing Walsh said in this interview was that he will not make trades that will affect the long term salary cap which yes was a DIRECT shot at Mitch Lawrence reporting that he was going to trade Marbury for Diaw/Barbosa. The same plan that Donnie said was going into affect when he took this job is still the plan.

This is great news everyone!

Also the other big point was that he said Dolan has absolutely no input in his decisions, which is also a very big deal.

Donnie Walsh is going to save the Knicks.

Good stuff. Those guys need to be put in their place sometimes.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Can we put to bed that Walsh is Dolans puppet and that Isiah is going to comeback to full power in 4yrs?

You're naive if you still think Dolan doesn't have any input.

Hiring D'Antoni is a quick fix, short cut kind of move that has Dolan's fingerprints all over it. Walsh's mouth might be moving but it's Dolan's voice coming out of it.

Isiah and Dolan must be very pleased with themselves today in some back room at the Garden. In 4 years when D'Antoni has burned his bridge here and Walsh is ready to retire, Isiah will be well rested and ready to reclaim his position.

You're just confirming what everybody accuses you of with this nonsense

You're either calling Walsh a boldfaced liar, because his interview doesnt fit your agenda,...or perhaps you actually know better and you're trying to create unnecessary drama in order to turn the spotlight on yourself.

Either way, you cant believe that abortion of a post. In his many years in the sport, very few people, if anybody, have accused Walsh of blatant dishonesty, or having his pride attached to a price tag.
