Now that we know this award wreally doesn't mean a lot and it's a take turn award we owe you award, it's safe to say it will be Paul's next yr and then Lebron's after that and then Howard's after that. It won't matter what anyone else does in the league.

if that's your take on winning the mvp....try again, cause jason kidd should've won the following year after tim duncan stole it from jason the year before.

this is a rewind mvp

Take Your Turn, Rewind, Kiss and Make-Up, We Owe You... however you want to label it, my point is it changes criteria every yr because it has to fit with whatever Stern wants.

Kobe deserves an MVP, but this year, it was Chris Paul.Take Kobe off the Lakers, they'll stink, but not be completely terrible. I think you take Paul off the Hornets and they'd fall apart completely.

if you use this logic you have to give it to lebron not just this year but last year also

the cavs without lebron are by FAR the worst team in the league, maybe ever lol

That's very true. Yet, not only is Lebron denied, he's not even seriously considered.

Chris Paul showed skilss, maturity, ability to make everyone around him better, and the the rarely seen ability to make good decisions on the floor. Kobe showed the same exact things except Kobe has been in the league for eight years now? CP is the MVP and this ones a no-brainer.

i think this is one of the closest MVP races ever, but I don't really have a problem with Kobe winning.

my criteria for the MVP has always been: if you had to win one game, what player gives you the best chance to win that game? I think you can make the argument Kobe might be that guy this year.

the one game to point to is this one:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/boxscore;_ylt=Ap6cSufSApJvxe3GieARqSuLvLYF?gid=2008041113

with the top seed in the west on the line, Kobe's Lakers beat Chris Paul's Hornets. Kobe had 29pts, 10reb, 8ast, 1to on 9-17 shooting. Paul had 15pts 17ast 4stl 3to on 4-13 shooting. a game both teams wanted to win badly, Kobe won. I'm no Kobe Bryant fan, but I think that proves he can beat Chris Paul when he needs to, at least this year.

the problem with the award is different people have different criteria, but i don't think you can say Kobe is a bad choice. I think KG or Bron would've been bad choices - it had to be Kobe or Paul.

45 wins is why you can't give it to LeBron. That would set a new precedent. It's clear that it's silently stated that the MVP really needs to be on a team with a very good record.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The MVP is a career achievement award these days.... which suchs for guys who only have MVP caliber seasons in a small window.

I disagree with this. Kobe and Paul both played on great, great teams. I wouldn't call Cleveland a great team. Anyway, you remove both players from their teams, the drop-off in wins is significantly more pronounced in new Orleans than in Cleveland because the Hornets were actually winning a decent amount of games. The Cavs basically won a game for every game they lost, whereas the Hornets and Lakers won two games for every game they lost. Furthermore, there were statistical blemishes to LBJ's performance whereas Paul and Kobe just rocked.

There were obviously only 2 legitimate candidates this year. Mentioning James in the conversation is an insult to Kobe and Paul. So is suggesting that this was a career achievement award for Kobe. Look at his numbers and where the Lakers finished compared to where most people thought they would. He put his team on his back every bit as much as Paul did.

Either player could have won it but I don't think you can argue that Kobe wasn't deserving. I think the slightest edge has to go to Kobe because his team finished in 1st. That's how crazy close I think it is.

I'd love to see them face off in the Conf Finals and settle it.
