Avery was fired so quickly because Cuban wanted to take the focus off the fact he okayed the Jason Kidd trade. It made that team worse. I thought maybe it would help them, but it backfired in a big way. Yeah, the players quit on Avery, but Cuban's ego is making him brash.

Aside from the "doesn't matter, their roster is in shambles" comment, what do you think about?

Mark Jackson - Yes, he has no experience. Is he wrong for the job?

Avery Johnson - Assuming he's out of work soon, would his toughness be perfect for this band of lazy misfits?

Mike D'antoni - Assuming he's also out of work soon, would his offensive creativity fit with this selfish group of chuckers?

Tom Thibideau - Nice choice, but a dark horse.

Clearly, they're hamstrung by guaranteed, bloated salaries. Perhaps there's a few moves to mitigate that in small ways, i.e.

1) tell Marbury to stay home for the last year of his deal (a la what the Bulls did w/ Tim Thomas)
2) deal Eddy Curry, who is probably more dumpable than ZBo
3) buy out dead weight (QBrick, Big Snacks James) though this doesn't help the cap

Regardless, back to the coaches, what are your opinions on these guys?

Lets be real here. The Mavericks got *jobbed* out of the NBA *TITLE* three years ago--two years ago they won nearly 70 games and he was against the J Kidd trade. His winning % is .735--The last Knick big game was 8 years ago.

check out the radio interview on espn.com with Avery.

He gets wayy too much crap for the Kidd. Bottom line is that he is a coach not a GM. He doesn't get paid to make personnel moves even if it was true that he pushed for this trade.

Kidd underperformed and really never came out to play. Players with Kidd's years and background aren't easy to coach since they do things their way. Think about it...what influential coach was Kidd ever with?

Everyone new the Mavs had no chance in this series. You had Dirk out there talking about his team in the past tense when it wasn't officially over, and then you have Josh Howard passing flyers around about his birthday party after a huge loss. Think about all that. Frankly, if you were a coach that didn't make lose your mind over that, then you are not in the right profession.

I want that kind of fire that Avery has here in NYC. He's a great personality, media friendly, was a very intelligent hard working point guard, owns a .750 winning percentage, and more importantly was groomed by two Hall of fame coaches in Greg Popovich and Don Nelson.

With the situation in NYC, forget everything about the current roster because all these heartless stiffs will be on different teams or retired in less than 3 years. This is Walsh's team.

Go get him Donnie. Sorry Herb, but atleast you can still hold a clipboard and waddle around the bench if you want.
