I don't think the playoff seedings or format have anything to do with the playoffs being boring so far. It's that the games just haven't been close. Lots of blowouts and games decided by early in the 4th quarter.

Out of the 30 playoff games so far, only 6 have been decided by 5 points or less. Conversely 16 games, more than 1/2 of all playoff games, have been decided by 10 or more points and amazingly 9 games, or almost 1/3 of all playoff games, of those games have been decided by more than 15 points.

That's why the playoffs have been bad. If most of the games were close, I don't think people would be caring about format.

Maybe if we had a different format the games would be more competitive. Of course we'll never know. I made some suggestions which weren't just one or two tweaks, it needs somewhat of a major overhaul.

If the NBA wants to make the East as competitive as the West, they need to get rid of the whole East/West thing. They should implement what the NFL and MLB have. An American conference and a National conference. Mix up all 30 teams and divide them into 2. The East West thing is getting boring. The only issue is travel.

You think the Houston-Utah series has sucked? Some very competetive games in that series IMO- I like the intensity.

That's probably been the most entertaining series so far. I wish Alston had been healthy for the first 3 games, it would have been even more interesting.

I haven't watched a lot but when I have watched, I've enjoyed it. Anyone know what the ratings are this year compared to recent years? Or compared to other sports' playoff ratings?

Because of the expectation/anticipation of series. Obviously more fans were going to be tuned in but the games haven't been entertaining besides a chosen few.

No need for defensiveness, superficially speaking you're right, but whats happening here are dramatic and aesthetic elements coming into play. There are two teams with legit shots (L.A/Boston, two major market teams) and three teams with very good shots (N.O, San Antonio, Detroit). Add to that the infusion of new blood (CP3) and the dominance of "stars", major trades, pro wrestling like-storylines (Lebron/Wash) and more of an emphasis on up tempo styles of play from teams that matter. The NBA seems like it could hit another renaissance era, especially with Portland on the horizon. Imagine if the Knicks could get in on this?

How bad does Denver suck. I mean they play with no heart and desire. They should do everyone a favor and stop going to the playoffs, Golden State would have given the Lakers more of a run. Melo and Iverson are two overrated player. Melo plays no defense and he is a liability at times. Iverson is not a pg and an undersized sg which cost him when it really matters. This why the Knicks can't keep Nate around he is smaller and less skilled than Iverson he will always work hard but when it is said and done he will hurt the Knicks more than help.

George Karl needs to stop coaching he isn't a good coach with all that talent on the team they are unable to establish a flow that makes the Nuggets a high caliber playoff team. JVG should be the next coach of the nuggets he can help them do what Karl can't help them with that is heart and defense.

No Kidding. 160+ games uhhhh no thanks at least not right now. I get into baseball after the All-Star. Heck and my Cubs are playing well but baseball without steroids is really a girly man sport.

The Hawks have showed us what playoffs are about.

Joe Johnson broke some ankles and slapped the taste out of the Celtics mouth in the fourth. Best game I've seen so far in the playoffs.

Incredible performance by Joe and Josh.

And with this victory, the playoffs are alive again. The 66 win, indestructable, Celts are tied 2-2 with a team that finished below .500. Doubt it happens, but this would be the biggest upset in the history of the NBA.

Somewhere, in a dark hole, Isiah is saying to himself that his Knicks could have been doing what the Hawks are doing, if only he could have pulled off the Mike Bibby trade.

And somewhere else, in a rubber room, Idiot Dolan is saying to his dominatrix that his Knicks could be next year's Celtics.
