As fas as Ewing is conerned, its all about perception. Lets be honest, according to most, Ewing is just another, aloof, giant, who didn't need to use his brains to dunk a basketball. I think most, not all, but most centers carry this stereotype around with them (save for the man with more rings than fingers).

Most players who turned coach seem to be the heady guys. PG's or those slow, unathletic players who were too slow and had to use their smarts to compete.

Check some of the current coaches:

Sam Mitchell
Sam Vincent
Byron Scott
Avery Johnson
George Karl
Phil Jackson
Marc Ivaroni
Randy Witman
Nate Mcmillian
Doc Rivers

None of these guys were stars buy any stretch. Most were energy guys off the bench, or PG's. No centers on that list.

Here's a good question. Has there ever' been a seven foot coach on any team, in any year? And what did they do if so. For some reason, it just doesn't look right. Mark Aguire was supposed to make the big guys tough and where did it get our big guys?
I'll never trust this' team again.

pg's make great coaches because they understand how the game is supposed to go.

I don't mind them picking Jackson over Ewing- I just think he ought to be owed an interview- he served this franchise well- got paid- but sold a lot of jerseys, got the team through many play off games.

He isn't owed the job- but I think Dolan should take his head out his ass and ask walsh to wait until he can at least give him a look.

I think Walsh should look at a long' list and take his time finding the right man for the job. It just seems way too hasty to make rumors that Jax is the leading contender. A mere commentator, with virtually no coaching (I dare say) experience to add.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Bill Russell. He was the player/coach of the celts one year when they won the ring. He also coached the Kings. Bill Cartwright coached the Bulls for a minute as well.

One seven footer and one ring after several decades. It only proves why we're not talking about Ewing.

Oh and thanks Up. How in the world do you find this stuff?!

4949- heres a question for you. You mentioned Aguirre not being able to improve our big men, namely Curry.

Why does Ewing get more credit for improving the games of Howard and Ming (both former #1 pick) who already was showing signs being a superstars in this league well before Ewing arrived on the scene, but Aquirre takes the hit for not helping a guy like Curry who couldn't be reached in Chicago awell by Skiles or Cartwright?

If I put Yao, Howard and Curry in front of you and said 'pick two', who would you pick?

I am throwing this name out as an assistant for the new coach and a guy who has ties to Walsh from Indiana: Detlef Schrempf.

He was an assistant with Seattle a few years ago. I always liked this guy. I think he can help.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I forgot all about this guy. I used to like him a lot. Good suggestion. It would certainly add to our poor International showing for starters.

I guess I'll have to answer it for you: 'Dahhhh, Yao and Howard'.

4949: Yup! And you picked them because..........................yes you got it..........they're natural talents. Anyone can give them a chance and they'll strive.

Before curry came here, I was one of the people on other boards warning not to take him. Now we're paying for it. To get him to move, you have to put a trail of cheeseburgers on the ground.
I'll never trust this' team again.

My guess is if Ewing had been teaching Curry, he would be a much better player by now.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ewing is a great big man coach - now can he be a big time head coach? I think he can.

It's not fair but it's as simple as this. They believe and know Ewing can coach, they just don't feel or believe he can handle the media scrutiny. They don't forsee him speaking eloquently and adroitly.
