Not to reign on everyone's parade but how many rookies have we seen do this? They look great at the end of the season where most of the playoff positions are already decided and other teams are just in straight up tank mode. Every year it seems that there is always one Knicks rookie he looks like a stud. I've always felt that if a guy can survive an entire 82 game season and puts up solid numbers consistently then thats when I'll get excited.

2006 Channing Frye

2007 Mardy Collins/Renaldo Balkman

2008 ?

He appears phsically much different from those players. In fact I almost cant believe the change on his touch from earlier in the season. He was brick city and now he is dead on. I think we have a winner here in this kid--he has something that those guys did not have. Also I would not count Channing Frye on the bust list--he's just not as good as people were making him out to be. He can still average 14-6 in the NBA if given a chance which are good numbers.

yea, while guys like ariza, balkman and collins had glaring flaws.. shooting, dribbling, etc... this kid doesn't seem to have those weaknesses.. Frye was a good offensive player but weak defensively. this kid seems to play both sides of the ball..

I was one of the few calling Wilson Chandler to start along side curry, z-bo and crawford and marbury early in the season.

Isaw enough of him in the preseason to understand all he needed was playing time with veteran starters like joe dumars(LB) did with tayshaun prince
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

If he comes back next season and performs for an entire season then I'll be ready to start talking about him possibly being a solid pro.

Isiah did bury Chandler for no reason all year......so Chandlers situation is unique.
Frye could shoot and run the floor but he was never a good rebounder, defender, or post player.

Mardy put up 12/5/5 right? He was a spazz all year before he had the break out stretch. Then comes back hurt and makes a caca. He may be 37 years old.

Nate, Lee and Balkman at the very least can play and belong in the league. Balkman and Lee can't shoot but I expect them to begin to hit those shots eventually.

Chandler can post, he can run, he can defend, rebound, finish, shoot.....he's not all that graceful, but he is strong and fundementally sound......and he's in charge of a city......what a guy!

Agreed, we seem to have been burned by this many times(Sweetney, Ariza, Collins).

Though many scouts have stated that behind Durant. Chandler had the potential to be the 2nd best SF in that draft, 2-3yrs down the road. Chandler is very smooth, good rebounder/finisher, outside shooter, decent weakside shotblocker. He deosn't have good handle so with a stud PG to create and just allow him to finish inside or out. It could help him alot. His man to man defense is a very big weakness.

Walsh needs to bring in some proven, higher quality, amazing track record developmental coaches. We need to finally start getting the most out of our picks and young prospects. Who was the last draft pick or young prospect we added to the team that has made the allstar team again??

Even Donnie Walsh Digs The Answer Man

Q. enyspree - What is Donnie seeing?

A. If his TiVo was set properly, he is seeing The Mayor shed his caterpillar skin from the bench and slowly morph into a versatile basketball player right before his eyes.

Q. enyspree - Does he see a guy worth building around?

A. Hard to tell. But i would bet good money he sees more in employee number 21 than employee number 23.

Q. enyspree - Or does he see a dude worth trading?

A. Donnie will have his hands full trying to deal away a lot of other dudes before he even thinks about dealing The Mayor. Wash your mouth out with soap. The Mayor stays and that's final.

Yea Marbury must have a needle fetish with all his tats and Curry thinks tats make him look tougher but what he doesn't realize that all the flab on his body gives him away.

Cuz the dude is definately running **** the last few games. He's arkward......his body and movements look like a cross between Rashard Lewis, Lee Nailon, Tim Thomas, Darius Miles, etc........meaning athletic, but not all that explosive, yet sneaky and unothodox with enough power and strength to make you think he might actually be a power fwd.

As I type this he is having a career game against Detroit.....

So.....what are we looking at? Are we looking @ a starter?

I like what he's doing but remember that Mardy Collins ran wild the end of last season.....so we need to see more and we need to see it during a more intense month of basketball...as April so far seems to have a number of teams "playing kids" or "resting vets" so it's just a weird atmosphere out there.

As to Chandler's play itself it's nice to see the kid finally get a chance to play and he's produced.

As to being a starter, well, our SF situation is horrendous so just about any of our SFs could be a starter on THIS team. As to a bonafide NBA starter? Again I'd want to see more of him and in more meaningful (intense) situations.

Certainly can't be down on what we've seen - but - I'd be cautious about labeling him quite yet one way or another.

I liked the banter between Clyde and The Pearl. They said that players should only be able to get tattoos according to their bball skill level. Kinda like in College Football and their helmets.

Cosmic - The Mayor is not Mardy Collins

Without overstating the case as his campaign manager, Chandler is a rare breed of 6'8 player who can make decisions on shot selection, handle the ball effectively enough to get to the rack (please note his low turnover numbers) and has learned the defensive schemes in only cameo minutes.

Detroit did not shoot poorly merely by accident.

Let's not get confused.

There is no confusion I'm simply pointing out that both players showed promise in a month that's not competitive and we have not heard from Mardy since. I refuse to take a few games in April by Chandler and anoint him not only our starting SF of the future but a potential star in the NBA. We acted that way with what we saw of Mardy and I'm just not going to do that with Chandler.

I want to see more of him and I want to see it during more meaningful and competitive moments in time before I bother to get all worked up about what he's done these past few games.
