unless he can somehow bamboozle someone into taking Jefferies & Curry or Zach off our hands, u can forget about Lebron.

Curry and/or Zach aren't totally worthless. Contending teams looking to add a piece may take a gamble on one them in the summer.

I think Walsh knows what he has to do to get under the cap. Everyone but Crawford, Curry, Jeffries, and Randolph expire by 2010. All he really has to do is make one move. I'm not sure who would trade for them but I am sure GM's would be much more glad to deal with a pro like Walsh running the show.

PS: I have no doubt he would package in a player with value like Lee and/or Nate to get rid of a bad salary. I also feel like Crawford can be dealt for an expiring deal to a contender looking to get help off the bench.

why is it all of a sudden a possibility that some GM would trade for guys like Zach & Curry when all year long those guys have been labelled untradeable? just because it's Walsh doing the trading instead of Isiah?

Why are you asking me that question? I didn't label them untradeable. BUT it does have to do with being an efficient GM as well.

Like I said, they are only moveable to a desperate team looking to add a piece on the cheap. When I mean piece, I mean low-post scorer off the bench. That's what Curry sounds like. For Randolph, some teams looking for post/rebounding help will probably gamble that he can work under the right coach. If you read some other forums, you will see other fanbases actually are open to getting Randolph such as the Bulls and 76ers.

Malik Rose and Marbury should be used to get their 1yr ending contract traded towards a 2yr ending contract.

2 yrs from now is our cap flexibility target point anyway, no plans for earlier cap sanity.

adding the year should get us a young player or a pick and/or get rid of a player with more then 2 yrs possible on his contract.

as in Eddy Curry, Zach Randolph, Jamal Crawford and Jared Jeffries

and also not forget Nate Robinson and David Lee will have a new contract a year from now

so if you ask me, on the hot seat are

Marbury
Rose
Curry
Randolph
Jeffries
Crawford
Robinson

with only Lee being kept out of talks for now

********************* NEWS FLASH **************************

I hate to piss on everyone's parade, but Walsh is not only going to have to get us under the cap, but also have a decent team here to get Lebron come to NY. Lebron is not going to come to a lottery team.

Stop deluding yourselves. This is never going to happen. He is not going to manage to get under the cap -- a mammoth task -- by 2010 AND have a good team in place.

you will be suprised who would be interested in curry/randolph, especially in two years. we know teams will take risks if they believe they are one piece away from a championship. who thought shaq would be traded? that contract is ridiculous but he was. curry is valuable only because he is a legit center with good post moves. that unfortunately today is a rarity. he can help a team without a low post scorer but needs it. i can see golden state making the deal if they are in and out of the playoffs the next couple of years. zach is valuable because of his rebounding. dallas, a team that is struggling up front, would welcome zach with money not really and issue. if dallas do not make the playoffs ( unbelievably a possibility), i know cuban will try to make MAJOR changes so the knicks can take advantage. i like that donnie had said his intentions which is what knick fans wanted to hear all along. if every thing falls into place, which i think it will, we can either get lebron, wade or bosh ( also the next year carmello is a fa too).

I don't think it necessarily has to be a good team as much as a team with some good pieces in place that LeBron can bring together. That's why the next 2 lottery picks are going to be so instrumental in determining the future of this franchise. Combine LeBron with our lottery picks for this year and next, along with whatever solid role players Donnie can acquire and that team isn't that far from contending.

Lebron is going to NJ he isn't going to look at ny.

We need to be in a position to get Wade or Bosh, and who knows where the bulls will be by then cap wise.

I think you need to look to move Curry, Crawford, Nate, Balkman and Jefferies. If the right deal comes around I would move anyone.

Lebron Dreams

"It was the less dramatic moves that showed Walsh’s gift for building a cohesive team. He once traded Detlef Schrempf for Derrick McKey, sacrificing scoring in favor of defense. He has always pursued steady, intelligent veterans, signing Sam Mitchell in 1992 and Byron Scott in 1993. He has generally made a high priority of coachability and high character."

NYT

these are the type of moves that probably will be made over the next year. get some nice veteran guys that are good influences (paging kurt thomas...)

then they will try to make a splash in 3 or 4 years. it's obvious the lebron/wade/melo plan is going to be in full effect.

Also, you know what Lebron said his goal was? To become the wealthiest man in the world! Now, that's not gonna happen but he can at least come closer in NYC than anywhere else.

One thing i don't uderstand about the salaries matching is whether its counted within 25% for that particular year or total salary left. Cause couldn't we just trade someone whose contract runs through 2010 for someone with a contract that ends in 2009 and throw in other things like players/picks/$$. Or trade for a few guys who have smaller contracts, even if some of those cotracts run longer but some end b4 2010. Cause once the other contracts expire we'd be left with someone who still gets paid in 2010, just not as much as the guy we traded away.

Why do people think bringing old Knicks back to suddenly work with younger guys is a good idea? It takes several years to build a foundation. We are at the brink of establishing that now. We have something to build on now. A shot at a top draft pick. A new GM and smart moves to be made. We shouldn't set all of our hopes on just one guy, let alone an old Knick. It's not like our rooks can't learn for themselves. Sometimes, you have to break yourself' in.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Oh I wouldn't count the Nets out that easily. They'll be able to spend some money. Especially since their coming to Brooklyn. LeBron can command top endorsements just as much as any other player in the league. If the Nets where going somewhere else, then it wouldn't even be a thought.

The Knicks need to concentrate on making that goal possible for when he does look around at this options. Anything less, he's Brooklyn bound.

It's kinda strange talking about Brooklyn and basketball. Just doesn't roll off the tongue yet.

Brooklyn needs a baseball team back there. Tearing down Ebbets Field and moving to LA = abomination.
