14-11-5 in the box score (for a non-starter) ain't bad

I like the selective stats. He was 3-15 shooting.

Andrew - big deal. Starks was 3-16 and people still love him.

The kid is a college student and you're kvetching over his line stats, in a winning game, against one of the elite 16 teams (out of hundreds of programs) in the entire nation?

c'mon... the idea is not to judge any of these yoots "as-is", but rather as works in progress that won't mature (in most cases) for another 3-5 years. In that line of thinking you look for potential, and the capacity to improve. If it was only based on their current performance, General Managing would not be the crapshoot that it is.

c'mon...

and anudder thing

One of the constant complaints is that the Knicks do not select players from winning programs. If anyone can provide a program with a better tradition of excellence than UCLA, I would gladly entertain the conversation.

purple - thank you for looking beyond the hype. Players like Mayo, who maneuver their way through high school and college based primarily on their NBA agenda and hype - over personal growth and sweat equity - bother me.

The best line from the Westbrook summary by far:

1. "A gym rat, really works hard to improve … Has a great attitude, extremely coach-able..."

That's not enough. Supposedly JJ2 was a gym rat all summer. He still stinks.

Chris Mullin was a gym rat and turned out pretty well so what's your point?

Panos - no where in the assessment of Westbrook was it stated or implied that simply being a gym rat was enough. The positive descriptions of his skill-set were numbered 2-4.

In addition, the mere fact JJeffries was photographed a few times in a gym this past Summer does not qualify him as a gym rat. According to Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, "the rarest species of gym rats, "basketballus allnightlongus" only appear between the hours of 2AM to 5AM and have rarely been photographed. They are too busy ballin' to be captured in action while everyone else sleeps.

Earl Monroe, a legendary gym rat at Winston Salem State, was known to participate in pickup games at 3AM when visiting baseball teams were trying to grab some sleep in the basement dormitory one level below the floor. He was never photographed as a shirt or a skin.

Ever.

... with that said, I'd insert the a-gile and mo-bile Brook Lopez next to David Lee (with The Mayor at the three spot) and call it a day.

Only if we can't get Rose, but I think Lopez is a top three at this point. So we gotta break in the top three to have a chance first of all.
I'll never trust this' team again.

dude - haven't you heard?... David Stern already has the NYK ping pong balls in the Amana freezer... the commish knows we have suffered enough and deserve a juicy pick.

Brook Lopez is ours. Signed, sealed, delivered baby

In that case, he should give us Rose. And I also read (yes, in the Post) that Stern says we won't be participating in the European league. That's sucks, because we'll be missing a lot of exposure.
I'll never trust this' team again.

4949 - did you say exposure?

Any in player from the Euro League who doesn't know where New York freakin' City is... or who doesn't "get" with the significance of playing on Broadway... doesn't deserve a second look.

Ex-posure? Did you say "exposure"? Exposure?

New York don't need no steenkin' exposure!

The beauty of being a Knicks fan is that:

no matter the drama or the hand-wringing

no matter who dons the orange and blue

no matter the controversy, Cablevision corporate-speak or negative press

no matter the W-L record or the long history front office turmoil

no matter the expensive tickets, overpriced pretzels or the inevitable cold hot dog...

The fact remains it is STILL New York and we are STILL the New York freakin' Knicks!

"Hear me now and believe me later"...

The fact remains... the instant this franchise changes its fortunes on the court, within a nano-second djsu is standing and cheering his azz off again... and I'll be right there (as always) with him.

Stern says we're not invited to go there. I mean exposure there, not here. A lot of those guys won't be coming to New York, but what if they liked what they saw on the Knicks. It's minor, but you never know. Yes' exposure. There's a big difference of seeing players on television vs. actually seeing them in person. And a lot of those players may not even be able to get a Knick game on tele. If your idea of exposure is reading an article in a magazine or the internet, then that's not exposure.
I'll never trust this' team again.

(cut and pasted in reference to answering Knicks most pressing backcourt needs)

1. A gym rat, really works hard to improve … Has a great attitude, extremely coach-able

2. Solid passer with unselfishness, always looks for the open man... Can handle the rock well and gets into the lane effortlessly... Solid passer who shows the ability to play the point guard position ...

3. Really excels defensively and has a chance to develop into a great defender … His anticipation for steals and his on ball defensive ability are special ... Huge wingspan allows him to play much bigger than his 6-3 height...Athletic and explosive (combo) guard with the length to make up for his lack of height (only if he plays the 2)

4. Attacks the basket with a lethal first step and crossover ability… Finishes well at the rim and is unafraid to go up in traffic … Gets good lift on his jumpshot and has a quick release …Has an excellent mid-range game …Has the potential to be a bigtime scorer when given the chance …

5. (weaknesses that matter) Must become better at handling ball pressure at the point guard position ... Must continue to improve his body strength … UCLA system will likely limit his ability to fully showcase himself ... Needs to imprve upon his free throw shooting (55%) ...(yeesh)

Westbrook's ft shooting was likely 55% his freshman year. This year, I believe he is around 71%. Next year, it is going to get better, and people talk about him having a good motion. But, that is the whole point, this guy is going to get better every year, and even though he is 6'3, he has a huge wingspan, and is very strong for his weight. We can't take him above guys like rose, beasley, and mayo, but if our pick falls, we very well may be better off in the end.

We will likely have a very high pick next year anyway, in order to try to snag that franchise player.

Westbrook will break out next year. He's got some point guard in him.. the mechanics on his shot are sound. His first step is great, his athleticism is very good. He is a year away. If he can play some point, his stock will jump way up. Collison leaving, may leave Westbrook at the point. He's a top ten player, imo.. by next year.

If the KNicks pick 5th or 4th I have come to the conclusion that our pick should be Stephen Curry. He is probably a combo guard but he will be a point guard in the NBA and has the skills to be a a pg. Curry is an excellent player from the what I have seen in this tournamnet and probably going to be a lottery pick. I see him like a Deron Williams type player.

Cash and rain - well stated on Westbrook observations. You both are indeed Jedi when it comes to making an informed projection (all things considered) for that elusive commodity of po-tential. My spider sense tells me that his work ethic and selfless-ness are commodities our beloved franchise desperately needs a transfusion of.

With that said, should he declare eligibility... having a poised, handsome, team-oriented, humble and oh-so-talented dude named Stephen as the next Knicks idol would be an ironic twist for the ages.

sup Noo Orleans?!

... with that said, despite his size, DJ Augustin is a game-changer. I like the way he sees the floor and makes the pass precisely where guys can operate effectively.

Another solid game under the national spotlight for Westbrook

If it happens, UCLA v North Carolina could be a game for the ages

Then again, Gallinari could be a running mate with Lee and The Mayor

"PG skills in a 6-8 forward body, can play all the back-court spots. Has great fundamentals for his age, drives well and know how to create his own shot or pass the ball..."

Insert Danilo in the backcourt at off guard and it runs like this:

Floor Leader - huge tbd, Rose ain't comin' unless the ping pong balls are freeze dried
Guard - 6'8 Gallinari
Point Forward - 6'8 The Mayor, 6'11 Jeffries
Big Forward - 6'9 Lee
Running Center - 6'10 Randolph until further transactions

That makes 4 yoots to start with
