A couple of things...first:
Jim is telling whoever he interviews, 'I would prefer to keep Isiah but you do what you have to do,'"
Seems to have been lost on all but 1 in this thread.
Secondly: Isiah is owed 3 more years and 18M. If Dolan wants to force him to earn that money and stash him back in the front office? So be it. It's not what we want but there's nothing we can do about it and it will remove Isiah from public so it's at the very least a step in the right direction.
To work off that: Walsh will have full control. Isiah can't go to him and say he wants to trade Marbury, our lotto pick, Lee for Jermaine ONeal and Indy's pick and have it go through without a thought. Walsh will shoot down Isiah's ideas - which in turn will create the necessary friction between the two - that will lead to Isiah's eventual firing anyway.
An afterthought: Isiah might be given GM title but no power at all. We might never hear from him again. There's a decent chance of that.
It would be best to get rid of Isiah altogether but that 18M says otherwise. At least he won't be coach and won't have power to make any more of his ridiculous trades. That itself is a huge step forward.
Lastly: "Do what you have to do". Well, sure sounds like if you're adamant about it you can fire Isiah the day you take the job as President. It'd be preferred to make him earn his money but if he must go then he will go.
So, well, much ado about nothing as usual with these articles and again we're talking about an evolving situation that is on hold until the conclusion of the season anyway. No use getting suckered into any of these articles out there.
