There's no sense in chasing the 2010 pick. It's gone and there's nothing anybody can do about it now. It's not even worth discussing at this point.

The Knicks need to concentrate on using the 2008 and 2009 lottery picks, and every other avenue for acquiring player, on adding building blocks. Players who can be or can be traded for the big piece(s) that they desperately need. They also need to get as much cap space as possible for the summers of 2010 and 2011. Just tear this mess down and rebuild it.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

DJ, your thinking of good old Ted Saptien who owned the Cavs in teh Austin Carr era!

And I agree, Isiah's was a good Idea badly executed.

I think even with a little patience we should be better than the worst 5 in two seasons.

I think franco makes a good point, but I would be of the mindset that we could get more with the #5 overall pick. So, my thought would be that we should be able to swap the 2008 1st for our 2010 pick plus another Utah first rounder. If that was the case, would you do it? Depends on if you're high on who is at #5. I agree with franco that this may turn out to be a pretty crappy draft, so there may be some logic to it.

I see no logic to it, and its an absurd thought. 2010 is a complete unknown quantity. How can anyone theorize that there is no possible way we can significantly improve in two years. Especially in basketball, where given the # of personnel involved, turnaround can be exceedingly quick. Franco's suggestion is downright cowardly. How could a professional organization possibly justify such a maneuver? Just give up a #5 pick????

I am not theorizing we're going to such over the next 2-3 years- I'm using the past seven years as a guide- that, and the 4 years under zeke that have seen the roster turned over multiple times and several player cancers who have max contracts and are untradeable.
this and an owner who has yet to own up to reality. a true rebuild is going to take several years, because isiah has set the organization back and his garbage must first be cleared out.
what does the next gm do with curry & zach? if you move them, your getting crap back.

Franco makes some good points. The fact is that some of the bad contracts on this team will be hard to move. So whether we like it or not (even with a new GM), we are stuck with many of these guys for the next couple years. But that said, it's still really hard to predict if the team will be in the lottery in 2010. If we get the right GM/Coach we could definitely compete for a playoff spot. Especially in the Eastern Conference.

One thing to consider, though, is we are still along ways off from knowing exactly which pick we will have this year. Regardless of how the team finishes, we could be picking 1st or 12th. Also, we still don't know which players will actually be entering the draft. If we were to end up with the 1st pick, then obviously, you have to keep it. But if we end up the 8th pick then maybe we consider giving it to Utah this year instead.
