Darren Collison is doing work against Stanford..........
I don't know enough about the transition from college to the nba to comment in these threads too much, but I can make some comments here.
People had some good thoughts about Farmar from UCLA when he was coming out. Farmar got drafted around 24 out of UCLA. He has made some good progress since coming into the league. But, Collison's first season, was Farmar's second. They made it to the final four that year. And, even though Collison got less time than Farmar you could tell he was a better player.
Collison was a much better penetrator than Farmar, and much quicker. His defense was superior to Farmar's as well. Collison was already the better player, and I think that hurried Farmer's entry into the nba.
I don't think people are projecting Collison to be a star(some say role player). And we shouldn't take him with such a high pick as we will have. But, Collison is going to be a very good player. He is kinda short at 6'1 but has really good length. He has really good quickness, and is a really smart player. He doesn't score a lot for UCLA, but he can when he is asked to. He is more of a pure point, so he isn't going to put up huge scoring numbers, but he will when is needed. This is what he did against stanford the other night. His is a highly efficient player as far as fg% and ft%, and I think we should consider trading for him if we get the chance.
I'll worry about falling out of position 5 when it actually happens. Right now we are there and the % are VERY high that we would pick ATLEAST 5--go check out the math.
If that is the case no other player should be dicsussed other than Beasley Rose Lopez Mayo or Mcgee. There is no way that any of these 6-3 combo guards are going to change direction here---we need either a star type caliber player from the PG or wing position or a big man case closed If I have to pick 6th or 7th if that is where we are I will add names but they wont be Gordon or Westbrook
