Wow, thanks for all the well wishes guys, means alot to me... I was thinking before, atleast I got the Knicks to look forward to, OH WAIT.

True, yes I got a severance, wasn't much but it's better than nothing. In response to your other question, I don't think I'd really be willing to relocate, although I'm sure the job security and the job prospects are great out in the midwest where you are. If you are good at what you do, I'm sure you're right about finding a job in seconds.

JrZy, I'll let you know about that recruitment, thanks so much for the offer.

VDes/DJ, thanks alot for the wishes. Yeah Des, Mack-Cali was really feeling the crunch. I worked in Roseland, NJ, which was a satellite office for them and nearly the whole office I work at(75 people) was given the boot. My coworker who had seniority on me has to stay, gonna suck for him...

K22, I hope to find something, I'm not really THAT worried, but I am questioning the stability of many companies right now and wondering if they are willing to hire. I guess we'll see, but you're right, this area is a hotbed for IT work.

Jones, you do you're own consulting work? I'd love to do that, although I'm not sure what kind of weight I can throw around since I only have 1 year of experience under my belt. I would love to do consulting though, really would..

Andrew/TMS/Eny, I actually just filed for the unemployment. I was always pissed to be paying taxes on that out of my paycheck, guess the last laugh was on me with that. Ya never know when you're going to need it.

That really sucks. Sorry to hear.

If you are searching for a best position there's a lot of websites online for something that you do like monster.com and careerbuilder.com. I mean I'm sure what the situation is but those are just common websites you can search.

Good luck and hope you find something soon.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

The best job search site I have seen is www.indeed.com. It searches all the job search sites like monster, careerbuilder, the newspapers and it searches company websites. It's pretty great and saves a ton of time and effort.

I used it to find my current job.

Thanks for the well-wishes man. I hope the economy doesn't affect anyone else here, but I'm sure it will

TMS/Des.. I've never used indeed before, I'll have to check that out. I used to Monster/Yahoo/Star Ledger to find my previous job, I'll check out Indeed, thanks for the heads up.

Hey nyk - I'm in the same position as you! I was layed off from my job today as well (I was a analyst at Lehman Brothers). This economy really sucks. I actually worked in the mortgage industry and know that it's really affecting the entire economy. It's not the reason this country is in such a mess but it cert. hasn't helped. I actually have a background in IT i'm looking for a job as a Business Analyst. If I hear of any Admin jobs I'll let you know.
NY KNICKS 4 EVER! Will we ever find players like Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniels, Patrick Ewing again? I hope so.

Boy I really probably could hook you up where I live. Are you from the NYC area? If Not where about do you live. I'm going to talk to my guy possibly tomorrow and find out what positions his company has available on the Coast. He's a BA himself.

Worked for Mack-Cali and they've been hit real hard with the uncertainty in the economy. About my whole office was laid-off with me.

Anyone got a position for a Network Administrator in North Jersey?

Sorry man. Did you get a severance package? 2 weeks or 4 weeks pay? EVEN IF SO and even if you feel embarrassed - MILK THE GOVERNMENT and go right down to your unemployment office and file right away.

Hey, our government is screwing us in gas, groceries, etc - so get some back even if just for 2 to 4 weeks it's SOMETHING while you look around for another job.

Trust me, DO IT!!!! At worst you get denied but that's relatively unlikely. Chances are you'll get a few hundred bucks on top of your severance!

DO IT That's what it's there for...it's not just there for unemployed drug using idiots who don't want to work. It's there for those that got screwed so DO IT.

Keep your head up buddy. As a small business owner I know how difficult these times have become. Business is slow all around. I hope you find something better soon.

Sorry to hear that man. I know just how it is. Whatever happens, don't panic, because things will get better. Meanwhile, here's some ideas.

Like Andrew said, get on unemployment asap. Sounds like you qualify.
Maybe you can try selling on eBay for some extra dollars.
Another thing to do is sign up with a temp agency. There livelyhood depends finding temporary work. I did it years ago, until I got placed.
And I just tapped into careerbuilder.com and punched in network admin, in NJ and a whole load of **** came.

Best of luck, keep looking and something will come up. Know any headhunters or someone who knows any?
I'll never trust this' team again.

Wow lovespree, that sucks man! I'm sorry to hear that for you too. Thanks so much for keeping me in mind, you find out really quickly in this world, it's not WHAT you know, but more WHO you know and every little bit helps. I hope you find something quick though.

Cosmic, yeah man, I've already applied for the unemployment, I'm just waiting on the paperwork to be mailed to my house at this point. I don't mind one bit about taking from the govt, they've FUCKED us all enough.

Vmart/Jesse/jimi, thanks for the well wishes. I really do appreciate it.

4949, thanks for the suggestions, eBay is a good idea

I guess I have to decide if I still want to be a part of the corporate world or if I'd like to move into the schools or what. I don't know yet. I guess I certainly got time to think about this crap though! Damn, I'm only 25, I can't imagine what this would be like if I had a family to worry about....

Sorry to hear about that bro, I left my previous job before they got to me. You should check the White Plains NY area a lot of companies from the city relocated to that area. Be sure to into the MTA and Port Authority a lot of people neglect to look at these companies and they always have openings in your expertise.

I didn't see anyone mention this, but try www.craigslist.org

Whenever I need anything that would be listed in the classifieds, I go there.

Sorry to hear that too bro- I have a few friends at Lehman who were let go too. Apparently they let go 5% of their workforce. Its been really tough out there right now. In some ways, I'm surprised I still have a job even though I'm rather junior- I actually work in the securitization of subprime mortgages, which is basically one of the catalysts for this current downturn. I think things will settle down in a year or two, but some time will definitely need to pass before this all gets figured out.

When one door shuts--another door opens. Hopefully a negative will turn into a bigger positive---don't worry about it--go out and enjoy a couple of paid weeks off--go take your girl to some beautiful beach and be happy.
