Knowing the Knicks, 6 years, $80 million out of fear that he might go elsewhere for the MLE.

That would still make him one of the more reasonably paid Knicks!

Tragically, this is true.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Jerome makes 7.2 in his lasy year and Jeffires is making 6.6 per year. You have Quentin making over 7.0 and you dont want to pay Lee 8?

I was gonna say I'd go up to 6/48 for him.

If someone offers me a top 8 pick I would trade Lee and let the new team figure his salary. If by chance we could get Rose and either Thabeet or Lopez--I think it would help us better long term. David is a great player but we have to try to build a team with chemistry. With Lee Randolph and Curry--they have poor chemistry and done enough diversity. Since the only guy who has value is Lee--as much as it would sck to trade him--I would do it. No sense to pay him 50mm right now.

So will he take that offer?

That kind of money should pretty much make him a starter.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Why he will play for this... thing for any money?
He doesn't look like a man with the money being preference in life.
So it's time to say goodby.

I really don't want to over pay for a one dementional weak defense player. Nice bench player to have but thats about it. David Lee is just slightly better than MLE money.

David Lee is the only one with real potential, that's been overshadowed this year with lots of bench time. People actually accused him of picking up a lot of 'garbage' rebounds. But I don't know anyone else who's been more consistent then he has in doing so.

He should be starting every game:
He's the only one to play in all 60 games
He is second on the team in FT% @ 82.1
He leads the team in FG% @ 56.2
He is the second leading rebounder with 8.6 a game
He's scoring 10 a game
His turnovers a game are only 1.3
And he's done this with 28 minutes a game

I think if he isn't starting by next year, he's out of here.
I'll never trust this' team again.

trade him if he wants too much
we can get a good pick for him

Why start over. We already got a good pick in David Lee!?!
I'll never trust this' team again.

those are terrible terrible contracts. I dont know what Lee is worth... it would be nice to see him sign an offersheet then match. Then you know your paying market (for once)

dimensional ?

yes, dimentional.

Why is David being targeted as a defensive liability, when the entire team sucks at defense?

I am thinking the Knicks offer him at least 40 million for 5 years what does everyone else think?

That's ridiculous! Lee isn't worth Jerome James money!

Your comparing James to Lee??? Break it down. It's eight million a year. It's not like that other clown, the self proclaimed star, who makes 21 million and isn't even here.
I'll never trust this' team again.

its a tough one

Is Lee better than Troy Murphy? I mean their games are different but neither are good defenders, both are excellent rebounders and both pretty one dimensional on offense. Isnt Murphy's deal regarded as pretty bad?
Lee has much more energy than Murphy. He gets to loose balls better. Last year I would have said Lee can also finish more explosively around that basket than Murphy can, but Lee seems to have lost some of that. But there isn't a huge difference between them, all grant that. We can hope that Lee improves at a better rate than Murphy did. He's at least improved his jump shot and FT shooting. I don't mind slightly overpaying for a guy with a great attitude who plays his heart out.

Lee is younger than Murphy, played 16 games more than Murph, is a better FG scorer, a slightly better rebounder and Murph is much more foul prone. The only down side of Lee is, he has zero 3-PT. shooting experience and Murph has a .388% success rate. I do find it a little strange that Lee, for a scorer, has not shot any this year.
I'll never trust this' team again.

8 mil. a year, for this caliber type of player, with the franchise owning the highest salary is very reasonable.
I'll never trust this' team again.

it's not about david *should* get, it's about what he *will* get. if he re-signs with the knicks i would be surprised if he doesn't get at least 45-48 mil. i'm expecting it to be more than 50. he has the organization by the balls. if i'm crawford, i would negotiate a 60 mil extension his summer as well.

Maye but the organization, especially Isiah, doesn't seem to love him. They sure don't treat him as if they do.

Agreed or what he's entitled to.

No way a player knowing he's eligible to receive $47-55mil extension and accept 5yrs $40mil also knowing if he hit the market the following yr he's eligible to receive $10-20mil more than that. I just don't see it.

People are underestimating Lee's potential. If he plays for a fundamentally sound team, then he'll be a huge contributor. Our team clearly has mental problems and so he'll just be sitting here rotting away on the bench.
I'll never trust this' team again.

It was sarcasm about how terrible James' contract is now and when and was made. And as King1 pointed out, Lee is going to be in a position to demand significantly more--from the Knicks. Look at all those crappy players making close to $8 million a year.
