I like the cavs now......they filled the roles they need with players that are best suited for them. Gooden is a scorer by nature being asked to be ben wallace.

Delonte West is an underrated player. The little dude was good in Boston. He actually averaged a block for the better part of one of his years there. He is exactly what they need @ lead guard. Booby is BJ Armstrong all over again. Another guy that's over looked is that kid from Michigan State(darn stroke won't let me remember his name at the moment). They have a nice rotation of similiar players @ guard. Damon is old now but he provides chemistry and motivation while eric snow provides another coach on the bench.

Wally!!!! Nice pick up! He is gonna be deadly with Lebron on the floor. God help the team thinking they can double Lebron.....or double off Ben cuz Ben can pass too.

Joe Smith provides veteran big man play. They never had that off the bench. He can still play as proven by his numbers this year. Carrot top is still around......and big z is still healthy.

I'm predicting nba finals but this time they will be "formidable".

cavs are probably the deepest, but detroit's chemistry for starting 5 is second to none

But Cleveland has the single best player. I think they made a fantastic trade. Wallace will relish his role as Lebron's protector and enforcer. Wally and Gibson when he returns will provide shooting. smith and Ilgauskas will supply low post options. Varajeo now has a role he can play and that is hustle guy. He does not need to do more and this is good thing for the team. All other guys will play singular roles and be effective.

Add this to the fact that Cleveland hass already beaten Boston twice before the trade. I think they also have Detroit beaten too. You know Wallace will be motivated against Detroit.

I really like Cleveland's chances.

that cavs trade is overrated. i think it was a sideways move - they got older, slower and only slightly more skilled. lebron is good, but he doesn't have enough around him.

they lost to milwaukee tonight. milwaukee.

I think its early to make too much of this loss. but the problem with this trade is guys need to get comfortable with each other, and in a hurry. detroit is a machine- they've been playing together for years.

and boston came strong out of the gates- their big ? is health and age.

to the original question is cleveland the deepset in the east- they might be, but I don't think they can know until next year- and then age might be the issue.

1 oversimplified way to guage deepness:

Lebron picks up 2 early fouls, who is Cleveland going to turn to to make plays?

however,

if Chauncey gets whistled Rip Tay and Wallace pick up the play-making and Stuckey comes in with energy on the defensive end

Wallace picks up 2 early Dyess hits the boards hard and picks up the low post while Maxi/Amir come in and bring a ton of energy and weak-side shot-blocking ability.

you can go on and on about how that team has the ability to morph roles and apply enough bandage for what they lose when a starter has to sit.

Big Z didn't play last night, I watched the game with redd knocking down a 35 ft 3 pointer at the end of the game for the win.

Wally had a horrible shooting night 5-18 and the cavs had a horrible transition defense against the bucks giving up 25 pts on fast breaks.

They will need a few weeks to understand who's doing what and where they should be on the court at all times.

IMHO when Z comes back it should be Z at C, Joe Smith at PF and let Ben Wallace go against 2nd units and dominate the boards and anchor the back line.

Coach Brown is in a learning process now of who to play and when , it can be tough making decisions. I give them another week to iron out the wrinkles

they lack front-court speed. with the way Boston and Detroit hit the defensive boards and with guys like Rondo and Rip who are track stars its going to be hard for them to keep up if it turns into a transition game.

Hughes may have sucked overall offensively but IMO they are going to sorely miss his speed and quick hands on the permeter and in transition

Anderson Varejeo and Lebron I would call slow in the front court.

Joe Smith can move too. They need some time to jell.

I'll give you Wild Thing.

Joe Smith is ancient.

Lebron can't be everywhere at once.

Joe Smith is shooting 47 % fg best for him since 2005-06 season, he still got it.

OK he can hit 4 outta 8 shots most nights. he is not a go to guy and he is still slow.

Joe Smith has been effective- and he isn't the go to guy- that is lebron- but the lebron's and kobe's of the world need guys that can know down the open shot- Joe Smith does that.

Boston sends a bit of a message- beating Cleveland- the score at 5 points was a lot closer than what it was.

Detroit is up in Utah on the road.

cleveland will only get better as the season moves on, new players from two different teams and two different systems will take time.

they should've gotten Lebron a true wingmate or stood fast...instead they got him more reasons to send a strong double his way soon as he crosses half court

mck1, I thought the game was closer than the score.

Lebron has away of making his teamates better, this new group will easily play better as the season goes on.
