Take away 4 teams, does this mean 16 of 26 make it? LOL Come On!

Do you remember the 80s?

We didn't have teams like Toronto, Minnesota, Charlotte, New Orleans, Miami, Orlando....

Thats 6 less teams, and yes 16 teams made the playoffs.

Yes I do and I didn't like the format but liked the game back then. Parity is a good thing look at the NFL. The most popular sport going right now because the league is ran correctly.

So why aren't the raptors making team fearful of them ?

Euro ball won't win a chip unless your core players have an edge and really love to compete and hate to lose.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Yet, half court teams have still been winning all the championships (San Antonio, Miami, Detroit, etc.) Not one run and gun team has won a title in the new era. Despite that, Isiah still sucks.

San Antonio plays the eurogame. Im not talking run and gun, but finesse. Penetrate Point who kicks it out with snipers waiting, if not it goes back in to Timmy. When US got licked in olympics it was evident those europoints were killing us! Back up on them the can shoot! Detroit had RasHweed who emulates the new center that can run and pop from long range. Ben was a role player! Billups played big, but he still took it in and kicked it out when clogged.

IN fact, Jordan and the bulls won this way. Had Finesse center flanked by role player at the 4. Luc Longly with Rodman, Will freaking Purdue flanked by Horace. Same formula.

Defense always wins and Spurs were able to "barely" stop the Suns last year. Shawn marion unable to hit consistant from out side was the difference. Suns got Hill to help that.

Miami got it done, and it could happen from time to time. Shaq was able to get it done and Toine could still hit it.

Its still evolving, but don't the rule changes also promote this?

Boston can succeed with finesse big man (garnett) who can hit the outside shot. Orlando with Dwight will have a problem until he can fill out his range a bit.

Not true Nolad, Timmy is the focal of the offense come playoff time...Phoenix is the poster child of the eurogame and knew they couldn't win without that big man in the middle..I think they are more dangerous now with Shaq in the middle, if healthy...You are not winning today unless you have that strong post presence...True the game has changed, but Champions was strong in the middle...

Timmy is the man and it goes thru him, but he is also on his last legs. The spurs will age out soon, but what is coming? On paper, the Nuggs should be closer to a ring with the "Talent" they have.

Bottom line is DEFENSE and thats where Detroit is strong. But they don't have a low post player either.

There many ways to win, but Im talking about going forward to look at the way many teams are building. The Hornets? Lakes? Will Oden be a runner like Dwight or a low lumber power player?

i am all for contracting too but that is unlikely to happen. as a matter of fact they are talking about expanding into european cities in the next 10 years. i don't know how that will work considering the west coast teams traveling plans. well anyway, today's game is alright but it seemed more exciting in the 90's. don't get me wrong, i am not saying this becasue the knicks stink. however, they just had more marketable stars. people knew who these players. i think today people know some but you ask a bystander who dwight howard is or to pick his face from a crowd, they most likely couldn't. it was a different era that had charismatic players. it should be the opposite considering the easy access with high level communication. but it is unfair to compare that era to this one because it is what it is. still the stars today are more media savvy than any other generation so they are popular. just not as much as the 90's era.i also think any good player back then would do well and even better this era. people look at patrick as a jump shooting center but he went to that move at the latter stage of his career. he was a very good post player and with no hand checking he would dominate.

What about a second bracket for the playoffs. Clearly, 16 teams in the playoffs is a little much, considering that 40 win teams don't win NBA titles and really don't even deserve a chance to compete for one. But the NBA likes the revenue from an extra round of playoffs. What if the top 8 teams competed for the NBA championship and the next 8 teams competed for a lower level of championship (think of like the Intercontinental title in the WWE). Then you still get a lot of playoffs, but the regular season means more, because every team wants a real shot at the top title, not the secondary title. Yet, the fans will still tune in if their team has a chance at any title.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

THe NBA lives and dies by promoting the star.

I'd like to see more "Team" vs. Starphuching. The NFL does well by it and by shear economics the NHL does also. Not many "Stars" in the NHL, but that does not mean there are not great players.

Parity is good. Golden State and Utah made nice runs last year and made it interesting.

The iso offense may be gone, but one on one play is still alive and strong. The best teams, like the Spurs, make other good teams try to model themselves after them.

And I wouldn't say the league sucks. It's just that the Eastern conference sucks, but how it came so unbalanced is unbelieveable and embarrassing. Something has to eventually give with this. Only 5 teams in the EC are above .500 and 1 or 2 of them aren't even THAT good.

i have 2 ideas, one to save the all star weekend and one to save the league.

for all star weekend, eliminate the game. just vote in allstars but you don't have to play the game. make it a 1 on 1 tournament. pick 32 players, seed them up and have an ncaa type bracket. each game is played to 7, losers out, winner takes home $1 mil.

for the nba, it's contraction.

new orleans, memphis, charlotte, clippers

contract all 4 franchises and have an expansion draft. their attendance is terrible. talent pool has dictated the rule changes more than anything else.

i think at this point, the knicks should be one of the teams contracted. then the league could take, like, the hornets and move them to NYC and MSG and call them the knicks. instant rebuild.

It would be Cheaper for Dolan to just buy another franchise than continue pissing money on Isiah and his hairbrained master plans!
