anji, memphis was down by 9 points with 10 minutes left and rose singlehandedly brought them back. he controlled the game until less than a minute left, when dorsey and another memphis guy got tangled up with about 40 sec left, turning the ball over. next time down, douglas-roberts took the last shot.

prior to the last minute, rose was the reason why memphis was in that game. as a true freshman on national TV in the biggest game in state history, i'd say thats damn impressive.

Most of this season CDR has carried this team on his back. If they did not have CDR they would have 4-5 losses. Sometimes you must view players 1-2 time--others you must watch again and again and again. This is the first big game that he didnt perform well.

briggs, i agree, i've been watching CDR since he was a counselor at MJ's flight school basketball camp in santa barbara CA w/ jared dudley, sean williams, and others. he is a very versatile player, i'm interested to see how well his game translates though b/c i think he is a step slow (in reponse to your rip hamilton comments, RIP is arguably the best-conditioned athlete in the NBA).

i was responding to anji's comment that "9 minutes to go [rose] did not take over that game or leave his imprint on it" which is ridiculous, if you watched the game, quite the contrary, rose was memphis' offense for much of the 2nd half.

He did'nt controll that game. This player is being judged as a franchise talent that didn't even to play in college, and he was singled covered most of the game.

He made one pass in the final 10 minutes to a teammate that was within 8 feet of the basket. He was forced to take fall aways 8-10 foot fallaway jumpshots while being guarded one on one with the game on the line. Only time he got to the line in that last 10 minutes was an inventional fouled....... I'm sorry, he should be able to get where he wants to in the NCAA if he is a Franchise stud. He should be able to get the shots he was taking while being trippled in the Ncaa. He's good, but he's not playing at an elitle level IMO. I think people are still forcing that title on him from his highschool highlites but he ain't really playing that way from what Ive seen of him.

And Mcfaaden just ran a 4.27............ the Jets need him in their life!!!!!!!!

haha he was forced to take fall aways and did you not notice he was hitting those fall-aways? he shot over 50% from the field, had 4 steals and 5 assists. he had the most points, steals, and assists of anybody in the game.

not sure what game you were watching but i was impressed w/ rose yesterday.

He is suppose to be an Nba player who is being made to go to college for a year. I'm not saying you have to do certine numbers, 50 percent for a game is not elilte at the college level if you are a franchise stud. Being guarded by a single player isnt either. I think you are taking it as im saying he isn't good. He is good, he isn't playing great though. Finding one player with a chance to shoot a layup in the last 9 minutes of an imprtant game for a franchise point guard.......... comeon, he is the next Jason kidd. Did you see Cal???

anji, in the last 9 minutes all rose did was hit 4 jump shots? that's pretty impressive as a true freshman in the most eagerly anticipated basketball game in tennessee state history. i'm sorry but i think derrick rose will be the face of a franchise as a 25-8-5 type of guy, he is a stud.

i love beasley as well, people complain about his attitude but the guy has swag. going into kansas and beating them on the road was certainly ipmressive.

i like eric gordon too, he can be a top-flight scorer at the next level, and i think thabeet is going to be a starting C in the NBA one day b/c of his shotblocking prowess.

briggs, you think CDR is the next rip hamilton? i think he's too slow and his mid-range game is too erratic for that type of comparison. i'm not sure hwo i see his game translating on the next level

I think they are very similar. Remember Rip is no freak athlete or race horse. They both are 6-7 with kind of slight frames but GREAT basketball players with big game moxy.

Dick Vitale said last night he's a Top 5 player in the NCAA right now.

i think you're holding him to an absurdly high pedestal. do you want him to hit every shot? he was the best player in the game yesterday yet you say he "isnt playing great." what do you want to see rose do to justify his status as a top prospect?

IMO there were two players from Tennessee who played better than him.

I think the bottom line is Derrick Rose is going to go 2-3[90%] with the same chance of going 1 as {10%]. I think there was some jousting in terms of what position does he play--is he a pure PG etc... but he was the best player on the floor last night. Rose on the Knicks would be a huge huge positive. I would like to see him try to make his teammates better down the stretch. Again if it wasn't for CDR's having huge high % scoring outputs in several games Memphis would be standing with 4-5Ls instead of 1. PGs should make the players around them better--so far atleast to me he looks like a combo guard like Dwayne wade--not that there is anything wrong with that. I think some people are confusing players like Magic Stockton Kidd Chris Paul Baron Davis and I don't think he is that type of player. He has incredible athletic ability and can use that like Dwayne to break down the defense---but recall that Miami plays a PG with him.

There's just something about Derrick Rose, when I watch him. He just has that "it" that isn't described through comparisons or by disecting his play, position, or numbers.

I can only hope he is our selection next year, but with the way things go, we're going to get the 7th pick, again and again and again for the next 5 years.
