I read an article on one of the knicks message boards (not sure if it was here) about isiah sending friends/lackey's etc to message boards to "preach the gospel"

I am leaving work now, but i will try to find a link somewhere.....

I think he must have gotten to DJ... took about 10 years but he finally converted him.

Dear TrueBlue- thank you for the link but it doesn't seem to work. However- I am not sure - what is 'news' here - as we have had a prolonged discussion where the same exact thing was being said.
1. The cap is going down - despite the horrible stumbles of Jalen Rose, Steve Francis, Mo Taylor, etc etc
2. It makes sense to let Marbury/Rose expire and get under the cap- if possible trade for a pick/picks.
3. There is young talent on this team - Lee/Balkman/Robinson/Randolph/Chandler

I would have to agree (and hope he actually does what he says):
1. Don't trade anyone
2. Let Marbury/Rose expire or play out their contracts
-so by the end of next year -we will be around 58M in salary. If we are fortunate in drafting Bayless or some other real prospect fine- and thats it- don't do a thing.
3. Let the next year be a wash- why not- we have enough players who can play well on any given night (if they become consistent and mesh) and hopefully we will have a 40-45 win season. Let James,Q Rich and Crawford expire and go.
4. Add another draft pick/s - sign no-one -and wait till the following year 2010- when Le bron come/Wade/Bosh comes out.

I would hate to see the Knicks do anything -don't change a thing - move anyone. Just let these contracts expire out and build through the draft and the development of our draft picks.

It's well known that Isiah had members of the Raptors front office infiltrate message boards to spin things. So what does Isiah pay you? Seriously.

If I double it, will you stop with the ridiculous spin?

How do you know this?

Still waiting for the answer.

I am not sure that I wrote anythng -regarding that 'I know anything'.
But for the sake of clarification I shall indulge you :)
The following id the result of Trublue's hard work -that I have modified a bit - but essentialy its the same information:
2004-05 $43.87 million $102,442,544 difference=-$59mil
2005-06 $49.5 million $126,610,272 difference=-$76mil
2006-07 $53.135 million $117,024,192 difference=-$64mil
2007-08 $55.630 million $ 88,877,161 difference=-$33mil

So Isiah's statement is correct-which was the 'last couple' (generally meaning 2) years we have reduced the salary and are closer to getting under the cap.

All members of this board are aware that Marbury (21M) and Rose (7M) expire the end of 2008/09- next year. So the Knicks themselves have two of the biggest expiring contracts in the NBA next year. Now recall if you will the keys to the Garnett and Gasol deal - 11 million dollar expiring contract of Theo Ratliffe and the 9M expiring of Kwame Brown.

Hoopshype salary page -also shows that Q Rich/Jerome James are in the last year of their contract in 2009/2010= about 15M. So in short the Knicks hae close to 42M(!!!!) in expiring contracts coming up in the next two years. This is not speculation, conjecture or wishful thinking - it is verifiable information. So -it is possible that this fact may also be apparent to the management of the Knicks. If - there -for some reason there is a potential superstar next year - the Knicks would have the best possible leverage for a trade- say an Elton Brand- and with this leverage may even be able to move Curry or some one else like Q Rich/Jerome James.

As many ardent fans have pointed out - the ideal scenario would be to do nothing. Also please look at this link http://www.wfan.com/pages/694450.php. I am not sure if the link is believable - bt according to the poster - Nike has a clause that reimbursement for Le Bron or Kobe increases drmatically -IF - they are on a NY city team-therefore 'salary' itself will not be the main consideration - but rather endorsements. Note - how recently 4 time all-star Amare Stoudemire fired his manager for lack of endorsements.

Where is the spin here?

seems to me you flow from point to point without making one.

On one hand, Malik Rose's and Marb's contracts represent HUGE expiring deals next year. On the other hand, they are worthless if you are trying to get under the cap, right? Same with the next 2 deals that expire the following year.

Same with Q and

I am not sure I follow. I was simply stating that what isiah said was correct- the cap picture is improving and there is no need to make a move.

I am not sure where I implied they (Marbury/Rose) were worthless if you are trying to get under the cap. Due to 'rules' regarding matching salaries - you have two options:
1. Use their numbers for a sign & trade for an established position of need -say Center (Elton Brand/ J O'Neil) or use it for to move players that are not having a lot of market interest- such as Eddie Curry. But basically what this means - is what Isiah has already done - extend the salary cap -in return for a good player- so far it hasn't worked out like 'planned'.

2. Let them expire - don't make any trades and be sitting in 2010/11 with a lot of cap space for Le Bron James or Kobe.

No, he's saying the expiring contracts are useless if you're trying to get under the cap (because you won't be using them in a trade taking back more salary--that would just block your goal of getting under the cap).
EITHER the expiring contracts are valuable because you'll take back salary without regard to the cap OR you're trying to get under the cap and they are thus useless. It can't be both.

That's like me stealing $100,000 from you and giving you $1,000 back and bragging that I'm making you richer.

If 42M expiring over 2 years is evidence of good moves or a good situation, then what Isiah inherited from Layden, which was 89M expiring over 3 years, plus ALL future draft picks, was fantastic!!!

Isiah has had large expiring contracts every year here and he's squandered them all.

We don't suffer from a lack of opportunity, we suffer from a lack of sound management, and nothing you can say will change that. Not that you wont try, but it's just p/ssing in the wind.

Ahh- than you Bonn

Yes- that makes sense. I don't know which would be pursued - in terms of trade or just letting them expire. This has been a crazy year - with basically two franchises -having fire sales- because they couldn't fill seats and have decided to rob another city's treasury to fund them their profits (Seatlle/Memphis). Who knows -next year -it may be Shin -selling off high slary -so he can sell his team as well or even Atlanta with its factured ownership-who (after last night) -may really regret taking on Bibby.

I think the point was that Isiah's statement on both the salary cap and having 'no need' to ctually pursue a trade or do anything are both correct. In fact- he has been saying that for atleast a few months. At the same time- if you did get an Elton Brand deal or Josh Smith/Joe Johnson deal - well - the hell with the salary cap. I am pretty sure - he is done (me gussing) trying to figure out potential.

BTW - that was a great quote from Kenny Smith:
"Potential in this league can getyou fired".

We can only hope - that after all the bad luck on potential - perhaps the God of Knicks fans may deliver us a deal like (Elton Brand+Chris Kaman for Marbury's expiring and EC). My opnion is that theKnicks are going to sit tight with the crew they have - and let this pain go in till 2009/10. The worse that can happen is - that they will be as bad as this year - the best - they win 40 games and screw Utah's hope for a high draft choice that we have to give them.
