Yup. Also, Ray Handley. The Giants had their share of bad coaches but they always had good GMs.

FYI...started watching the Jints when I was an FOB(actually a jumbo jet ) from the Philippines and saw LT snap Theismann's leg. I was in love with the Jints from then on.

The Giants have not always had a singular vision...they went through more than a decade in the 60's-70's of infighting amongst the Mara family. The power struggle between Wellington and Tim is well documented...as is the "15 years of lousy football banner." It took an act of the NFL to get things straightened out after a long period of instability and bring in a great football man like George Young to help rebuild the franchise. Not to take anything away from Wellington who was a great man and a great owner who made several sacrifices for the betterment of the sport. The NFL would not be what it is today without him. But at the same time Giants were not always the prime example of a well-run franchise.

Today it once again starts at the top with John/Chris Mara and Steve Tisch- and Jerry Reese and Tom Coughlin. Coughlin brought in a new culture here. There were maybe a few guys that undermined it, but a lesson was learned in the roster purge this year. It all starts at the top and if you don't buy in you don't belong.

I pretty much think there is no possible way for this to happen Misterearl. I think you pretty much have to buy the Knicks, Rangers, Liberty, Radio City, and all of everything that's associated with Madison Square Garden, if you're gonna get the Knicks. Pretty much, we have to pray that Charles Dolan forces Jimmy on his way out and finds someone to take over Cablevision, who isn't named James Dolan, so HE can stay away from the Knicks. I think that's pretty much our only hope at this point.

As of now, the Knicks have mad a complete mockary of the media and the fans. They just aren't worth our love, devotion and our time, nor are they really worth watching at this point. I watch them a lil, but not nearly as much. It's pointless and I now can't wait for pitchers and catchers.

NYK - what I am offering is that even when the Knicks have had decent GMs, the suits have historically provided the pressure (or directive) to provide instant gratification via players like short-term "fixes" like Paul Westphal, Truck Robinson, Bob McAdoo, Kiki, (the failed attempt at George McGinnis), Maurice Cheeks, Marbury, ...

So in the meantime don't express my displeasure and enjoy the team Zeke has put together?

Zeke was supposed to be a strong personality and even he was afraid to stand up to the suits. Instead he threw Chaney and Wilkens and others under the bus and blamed them for their failures. All the while he happily collects a paycheck while acquiring players he knows can't win.

It's either that or........He's an awful GM.

Either way, I don't want him near my team and have no problem expressing that.

Can the Knicks hire Jerry Reese?

The team’s run toward a championship, requiring serious imagination a few weeks ago, highlighted an unexpected organizational turnaround. A year ago, the Giants were a team in transition, if not disarray, with few indicators of which direction it was headed. Coughlin was nearly fired. General Manager Ernie Accorsi retired, handing the roster to the little-known Jerry Reese...

Reese pared the roster of several high-priced, injury-riddled veterans, and infused it from the bottom with a batch of unheralded rookies. The Giants seemed like a team trying to reset its aspirations, not one about to make a Super Bowl run.

Mista~

Great list of "starphuchless" players. Those guys were always about a step on the way down. Add Mike Newlin and even Derek Harper to the list.

"The little known Jerry Reese" is a great line. It important we not hire a starphuch GM, or big name thinking they can recreate, but the right man to do the right job!

Dolan has to give his GM the direction of the team and the resouces to make it happen.

Recources like time, patience, and a public relations policy to discuss it.

We can rebuild in NY if you have two things: Faith, hope and leadership!

There is nothing comparable about the Giants and the Knicks. The Knicks don't even represent NY. The last time they did was years ago. Not now. And no matter how much they try to leech off of the Giants limelight in the coming weeks.

Nalod - faith, hope and leadership?

There is little to no faith in Dolan, the fans are nearly drained of hope and the leadership is called into question by a Dunleavy who works for the permanently cursed Clippers.

but hey, maybe the Giants front four (the most worthy MVPs of the game) will show up at the game tonight.

What are you talking about? The Knicks are obviously making the playoff, right?

Now where is that thread.

You guys keep comparing the Giants overall situation vs. the Knicks. As we all know is that there is no comparison. I was actually talking about how the two teams handled the NY fans and media. The Giants got angry and fought harder when all the world was against them. The Knicks whine and moan and blame the world for the problems that they themselves created.

Bippity, there was a lot of whining and moaning from the Giants side too. Luckily the biggest whiner and moaner retired.

Why is misterearl in a topic about a real team? The Giants are the real heart of New York. The Knicks are close to being disowned.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

One thing I noticed while watching the game was Shockey being in a luxury box, surrounded by friends and drinking some beer. In comparison, Peyton Manning was sitting in a luxury box, sitting in the corner alone, intently watching the game.

I've never been a Shockey fan and I can't say I'm disappointed that they won they Superbowl without him.

As for Peyton Manning, this is how he broke down the TD to Burress:

“The Patriots were in zone-deep coverage up until that point once they got the big play,” he said. “Then they finally blitzed and went all out man-to-man. There is no doubt in my mind where he was going with that ball to Plaxico. The corner (Ellis Hobbs) squatted on that rout thinking it was going to be a slant. It was just an unbelievable drive by Eli and the team.”

The Mannings don't win by accident.

It's like that in Boston too. Everytime something negative happens the fans go haywire. Media is nuts too. Yet they find a way to win in every sport almost every year.
