Oh and by the way -- I've been number one in Eny's league for the last two months. I forgot that I haven't had a chance to brag about that

eViL, what kind of guitar do you play? I've been 100% interested in learning to play sometime soon (Money being the big issue) and when get good at the acoustic (After I can buy that too) I'd like to save up for a Les Paul.

Just curious.

You shouldn't have to spend too much to get a decent guitar to get started on. Just don't try to buy one of these:

Why do you say that? Expensive?

I guess it's all relative. I think $19,000 for a guitar is expensive.

Those guitars are awesome, Bball!!

I love my guitar though and wouldn't trade it for any guitar in the world. I got it custom made, exactly the way my dream guitar would be:

Allan, you don't need something like this. Though I'd let you jam on it if we ever chilled out.

You really should decide what your price range is first and then work within your limits. Musical instruments can range in price from dirt cheap to more than a quality car can cost you.

You pretty much wanna find a guitar that stays in tune and plays comfortably. Those are your two most important factors. Everything else just adds to the price.

Try musiciansfriend.com and samash.com to start your search. Get an idea of what's out there and then go to a store and actually look at some. Good luck. Let me know if you need a teacher. I knwo a guy who can really play and more importantly really TEACH.

Nice looking ax. Who built it for you?

It's amazing how many custom builders there are now for guitars of all types.

Thank you!!! Ed Roman built it for me. He gets some excellent exotic woods and, if you know how to deal with him, then he's a total pro. I've heard some nightmare stories about him, but nothing rings true with my experience. It's a f'n dream guitar.

Yeah, Ed Roman seems like a real character. Looks like he knows how to build a nice guitar though.

Oh my bad, I didn't even look at the prices. I'm just starting off with a real cheap on though for a couple of hundred and just learning how to play.

Like I said though, down the road, I wanna save up for a Les Paul. I LOVE the way they sound.

Thanks man. At this point, it's all about money right now, but how much can guitar lessons cost in this day and age? And is it at all worth it to just look at books and just teach yourself that way?

Although I don't know how to play, I think my biggest issue would obviously be coordination, but also seeing how playing the guitar neck relates to regular music notes (If that makes sense.) b/c I know stuff on how to read regular music and I used to dabble around with the piano, although never practiced enough to really get good at it.

Regardless though, music is something I F'in love, and would one day like to make my own.

I am self-taught, but I think you could learn faster with a teacher. The most important thing is that you practice hard and often. No matter how good your teacher, or the book you use, or your guitar, or whatever -- it's all about what YOU do with it. It's a challenge, but if you fight through the early struggles -- it'll pay off, I promise.
