lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

It depends on why he is retiring. If Shaq is being forced to retire due to injury then if his contract is insured, insurance will cover 80% but it still would count against the cap. If he is retiring because he just doesn't want to play basketball anymore then im pretty sure it wouldn't count against the cap.

Of course, its not very likely he'll walk away from 40mil.

Shaq is like most aging superstars. He doesnt think he's done yet and even after he's done and retired he will still feel he can play in the NBA. I think there was another guy named Ewing or something that also started to decline when he was averaging 15 and 10 and often injured and people started talking about getting rid of him.

Part of the reason players like Shaq become such great superstars is because of the enormous pride but in most cases it also seems to be there downfall.

Regardless though, I have to defend Shaq on this one. He was supposed to make 30 million or something per year for the rest of his contract but he renegotiated it down to 20 million. Now I know that doesnt help that much but has there been any other superstar that did that? KG always complained about not having good players around him while knowing that he was a big part of that reason by taking up nearly half the salary cap.

If he just doesn't want to play anymore doesn't that mean his contract still WOULD count against the cap? That's what happened with the final year of Reggie Miller's contract.
