YES! Kenny Holmes... omg, what a waste of a FA signing... combine that stroke of brilliance w/the signing of Lavar Arrington & that's a ton of money flushed down the toilet.

maybe it was the hair that turned Accorsi on.

In fairness, Accorsi learned the error of his ways and rebuilt the team's scouting. That was rebuilt on Accorsi's watch... I'm not selling Reese short here, because he's a stud. Accorsi, though, knew he was going to retire and planned his exit FLAWLESSLY. He more or less advanced Reese at warp speed and got him up to GM speed quickly. The way this organization looks know has an awful lot to do with Accorsi... he had a lot of control in setting this up.

Is Reese better? Likely, yes, and Accorsi called him his "number one pick" in the article I posted in the other Giants thread. But did Accorsi point the franchise in this direction? Absolutely, and he deserves some credit here.

The scouting was rebuilt by having Jerry Reese in place as director of personnell and also by having Coughlin and his staff's input. Yes, I give Accorsi credit for helping promote Reese- I also give Reese credit for being the man behind the talent infusion. Accorsi's team building under the Fassel regime SUCKED. He drafted Ron Dayne and then maide him *****foot behind a finesse O-line with a bunch of undrafted players? Seriously? Ron Dayne ran behind HOGS at Wisconsin- massive power OL guys opening up gaping holes for him so he could build some momentum and power. Now In Houston he is having some success with a zone-blocking OL that opens up some gaping holes for him. Not saying Dayne was a great player, but he is a prime example of Accorsi's mishmash philosophy.

And I don't even want to begin to talk about how many picks he WASTED at WR...including a lot of day one picks. We drafted WR more than another position under his watch and the only one that developed did it away from this team (Joe Jurevicius- and he isn't even so great). Hilliard/Toomer were George Young picks.

Do you remember a few years ago when the Giants were beset by injuries, the kind of players Accorsi would bring in to patch holes? Herman Moore? Over the hill by 5 years? Terrell Buckley? Ramos McDonald? Chris Claiborne? Past their prime vets who did zilch here. Meanwhile look at the inseason pickups of a guy like Reese- unknown rookies or 2nd/3rd year vets, but every last one of them contributed. Hedgecock, Hixon, Tank Daniels, Tollefson- all of these guys have made plays during this playoff run.

Ernie Accorsi was a great self-promoter, but not a good GM. Before trading for Eli Manning he was best known for trading for and not signing John Elway. Is that an accomplishment Ernie? You'd think so by the way he told that story...

That being said Ernie Accorsi was 1000 times better than Isiah Thomas.

I will say Accorsi's single best gift was self preservation... that's not necessarily a complement. I don't think he was good one, but I don't think he was necessarily a Scott Layden or Isiah Thomas or any Jets GM pre-Tannenbaum or Matt Millen. Pedestrian is how I'd describe him.

I am tremendously enjoying his exit strategy, however, which is something Mara and Tisch employed him to do.

Again, I'm not trying to bemoan Reese... he's been more than I could have hoped for...

Thanks buddy- its been fun to go back on forth on football over here. With the Knicks sucking for most of the current decade I think I've directed more of my passion and energy over to the Giants side.

i've pretty much been focused on the Yankees the past couple decades... the Giants have been disappointing me for a while now, but this year they really stepped up & my interest is at an alltime peak... damn, 18 years since our last championship... can u believe it? i hope we don't make it 19...

w/the Knicks i don't even allow myself to think championships anymore... i've never experienced 1 in my lifetime w/this team so i can't even relate to the feeling.

We got Conf. Championships to look back on. When the inevitable happens in AZ (though i'm rooting for NY) the Giants and Knicks will have that much in common ov er the last 18 years. 2 finals. 0 Trophies.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Conference Championships don't cut it for me... i gotta have the ticker tape parade & the whole nine... i don't take any solace from the Knicks' almost runs of '94 & '99 cuz they didn't seal the deal... it was nice at the time to root for them during the run but in the end it was nothing but a huge disappointment for me... same w/the '01 Giants & every Yankee team since '00.

anyway, i sincerely hope you'll be eating crow in 2 weeks.

Accorsi did better w/his late round picks, but his 1st rounders left MUCH to be desired... Ron Dayne, the Mike Sweetney of football.

C'mon at least to balance that bum off, Acorsi drafted TIKI.

Accorsi didn't draft Tiki, George Young did. But Accorsi did draft Sean Bennett and Joe Montgomery...
