The thing that dissapoints me is that sweetney is a duplicate of what we have now, maybe he will prove me wrong, but I don't think we have another Elton Brand here. I think sweetney is better than Othella and spoon but that isn't saying much..

Sweetney can replace KT or OH in the paint. Use one of them to get a C via trade. I'm telling you, this is Layden's job on the line. He's going to try everything he can with the limited resources he has to make this a playoff team. Not a great team, or even very good, but good enough to get into the East's top 8. He may not succeed, but he's going to try.

Expect at least for them to use the MLE on either a SF or F/C, maybe even a PG. And I'll be stunned if Spree is still on the team when camp starts. We may not see a better team, but there are more changes to come.

I came away feeling good about the draft. Sweetney is the Knick-tested, grind-it-out type player. But Lampe, that could payoff big in a few short seasons, if not sooner. Vranes at 39 is the kind of pick you can afford to screw up. He could be "Baby Yao", or he could be "Baby Gheorghe Muresan". He's 7'4", almost 7'5" for crying out loud. Just have him stand under the other team's basket the whole game and wave his arms around. Force feed him carbs and make him lift every day, how bad could he be? The first two words of English to teach him are "swat ball".

... assuming Vranes isn't ready? Forget about him for awhile... he gives new meaning to the word... raw.

That being said, I loved the Knicks draft. Sweetney is a guy the Knicks had to have... and while some like Dicky V. think the Knicks will regret not taking Collison (another good choice)... we had to get a guy like Sweetney. Monster on boards.. a guy who couldn't be guarded in single coverage in college. He's Oakley with quite a bit more muscle. We couldn't go on being last in the league in rebounds. For better or worse, I'm happy with the pick... breathed a huge sigh of relief when Clipheads took Kaman.. Bulls taking Hinrich and of course when Bucks took Ford.

As far as Lampe... truly good fortune... let's try not to anoint Layden to genius status for this pick... as I believe Gony said, he fell into our laps... and we are very grateful.

As far as Vranes... love it... but this guy will take three years to be ready, in my opinion but, well worth the shot and pick.

Good day for the Knicks.

look last year was the year to keep the pick, and we got another undersized power foward.

but at least this one can play a little.

to say layden came through is just foolish. We still got a long way to go.

i think sweetney can try to be as good as malik rose then we would be a good pick. but for the people riding laydens pecker, answer me this...how much better is sweetney then one our draft picks a couple seasons ago Michael Wright from arizona??

Sweetney is a decent pick i dunno about the polish cat, but as i hear Kobe Bryant and Garnett will be free agents next season and no we got no shot at either of them i remember

The chicken comes before the egg.

pike , sweetney is a oakely with a bit more muscle.

pike please.

Sweentey can't bench press 185 pounds more than 5 times, believe it or not. i am 5' 9 and i can lift 185 a lot more than that.

i met this cat that shall remain nameless, who trains in the city. this dude looks like one of those hulk ad's. he mentioned he worked out with oakley numerous times. he told me pound for pound oakley was the stongest guy in the NBA. he mention a 400 pound bench press was like lifting a leaf for Charles.

if you said sweetney was a charles oakley that can make a layup i be with you.

Yup Ares, Sweetney is no Oak...and what is all the talk about playing him at center? He is already undersized at the power forward spot.

I had a dream last night. I dreamt that Scott Layden for once didnt do anything stupid at the draft. Oh wait, I wasn't dreaming !!! Scottie took the nice, safe logical draft pick. I like Sweetney over Collison but that's because I've seen ALOT of Sweetney at G-Town. We'll all be debating the Collison/Sweetney thing all year. Lampe, hey he's tall and skilled. Vranes- well at least he's tall. Hopefully Sweetney will turn into an Elton Brand type. Knicks still need work via trade and Free Agency (Andre Miller, Rasha Nesterivic from Minn), but at least for one day, I can feel good about the Knicks.

Brand played center for the Clips cos Olowakandi was hurt and did really well. The only difference between brand/sweetney is brand is more athletic but both are monsters in the paint. With sweetney's work ethic he will get in the gym and get in shape just as brand did. Sweetney will trade in the baby fat for pure muscle you wait and see!

man andrew we actually agree on something. so yall get your umbrellas out.

gunsnewing, I'm glad you are optimistic. lord knows we need this is these days. you may be a little younger than me, your heart may have been broken less by the knicks and jets than me. I'm Bitter, i'm a bitter knicks fan but that that bitterness has made me see things clear. i see beyond the propaganda and false promises, but sometimes too skeptical aint good either i would of gave up on Syracuse long time ago.

dog here is the difference between elton brand and sweetney, brand was a mcdonalds all america and superstar at duke, he led that team to finals runs, sweetney did neither, and was neither. although similar in stature, sweetney aint in brands radar. he is more in harringtons radar. a upgrade but lets not get nuts. a lot changed because we actually didnt f up the draft, but don't thhink we are turning in to the bulls 90's cause we got sweentey and the two overseas cats. if we don't heavly follow up last night will mean nothing. kind of like the year we drafted john wallace, dontay and walter mccarthy. the knicks got a lot of work done and it wont be easy

i aint killing your optimism, just remember as much as you like it that mule aint winning the kentucky derby

Oh boy i can see we are upset layden came thru THIS YR! Gony you and Pike say Lampe fell in his lap, not true. The trade for Mcdyess is what made it all happen, we took two non guaranteed guys at 30 and 39 and made something happen. Layden knew that a few good players could come from the second Rd, plus we were trying to save a lil cash for dolan too. Now if Jerry West did that TRADE he would be called a genius up in here. Matter of fact I think west is slipping, he could have kept his 13 pick and gotten DAUNTE JONES LATER IN DRAFT. Sweetney could run circles around collison in the paint are you kidding me. Collison can't play aginst talented tall guys because he's weak. I will say this he can run the floor though. Sweetney will be better than Oakley , of course he's not as strong as Oak=no brainer.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

hmmm almost predictable the forum idiot, would come around and act like layden walked on water.

this is how David Koresh convinced people he was jesus....stupid people..

To even count that 39 th pick is a joke the guy from what i hear is a 7-4 clown with no skills what so ever. lampe i will wait and see, but sweetney is michael wright, a good player but is he leading us to championship???

Again the idot base's next season on the last one, like he bases his life on the 1999 run. but we got a decent foward so did every one else. the cav's got a guard bigger than a guy we looking to play center.

again this idiot was talking all this smack last season about us beating the nets i expect him too do it again.

i just want to save the innocent.

Ares...dude I've been watching practically every knick game since the 96-97 season. I was only what 13 then. Now I'm 20, I was heart broken that first year after that stupid miami season. The knicks had a great chance to beat the bulls that year. They split the season series 2-2, ewing had that great duncan on dennis rodman and then the game winning shot of the glass. Starks hit that game winning 3pointer against phoenix that year. From then on I was gonna die a knick fan. Most important of all I was a Ewing fan. I've never seen someone play with so much heart. I wanted to win one for Pat. Then After that season everything started going downhill. The 97-98 team however, made me very proud as they played without ewing all season long. I remember that game against LA where Oakley shutdown shaq and then beating the heat in game 5. Then there was the glorious s '99 season. But then Layden got his hands on the team and ruin the knicks by trading my hero. I will never forgive him for trading Patrick. After he traded patrick being a knick fan for me just wasn't the same. I really wanted to win for patrick. I've cristisized all of Layden moves, even last year. I was one of the few at the garden who knew and wanted Nene, a true center, instead he traded him away. I really wanted Scott out of year up til lastnight. He did a great job I thought. Sweetney is a New York Knicks type player. Mark my word! And he stole Lampe, a clear lottery player and it looks like there is a chance he could play next year. If he doesn't no problemo, we can wait 2 years. The bottom line is I was questioning how long it would be before I'd see the knicks in the playoffs again. I was thinking not for another 5,8,10 years but lastnight changed that.

and I feel 10000000 times better about Sweetney, Lampe, Slavko Then I felt about John Wallace, Walter McCarthym Dontae Jones

I was just watching Mike & the mad dog and Chris had the knicks european scout on and I don't know if he was telling the truth but he said the doctors examened Lampe and he's still gonna grow another 3/4-1in and a half and that he is 7'1'' right now and that by the time he's done growing he will be just as big a Pau Gasol.

Ares, as you know, I did not and still don't want sweetney, but lampe may be the steal of the draft. Now having not seen him, I must go by the reliable sources that have seen him, and they say this kid has great upside, and as a knick fan to finally have a tall player who is young with upside, is a welcome change..

lampe could be vladomir roadmavich from seattle.

which is not bad but not walking on water.

the point is the draft was a decent one, nothing to cmpalin about but we got major work to do.

These reliable sources job is to promote this draft, you cant degrade your product, see pass the proganda...

lampe could be good, and so could milos, i believe they will but the knicks need a franchise player.

we got more work to do.

Guns i hate patrick ewing, i think he was a overrated bum,

but thats a sensitive thing with you so i will leave it at that.

i got about 15 year of knicks debalces over you. no doubt, it's making me Numb. i am enthuastic no more.

guns you counting a definte on a if probablity. you saying we definetley going to get better "IF" lampe is the guy "IF". dude ask around about me my name is also ICE. I am good in couting into these equations where we as fans start to all excited and worked up. TKF knows, i put him on the logic map for years now.

if we don't follow up it will be about four to five years before we get better. guns sweetney aint brand, but no doubt he fills a hole. we finally got a undersized power foward that can play.

and i dont want to sound like i been watching the knicks longer so i know more....i am saying my heart is broke, long time ago, i'm in the bitter stage. you talk like there is hope. but here is a point

here are a list of teams better than us right now,
lakers,SAC,Spurs,Dallas,Phoenix,houston,portland,nets,detroit,indy,philly,boston,charlotte,orlando,minny

thats 14, then you got teams that are coming up, memphis, golden st,atlanta, denver and yes even cleveland. I'm sure i left out a couple of teams

please believe it last night does not change nothing , we got so much more work to do it aint funny

i will be here to tell you "I TOLD YOU SO" lord willing.

peace.

Exactly, unless you have the number one pick (or in this case, the top 3 picks) the draft is about the future, not about next season. Your chances of getting a player who impacts your team his rookie season is probably 1 in 7.

The Knicks have done a nice job of planting some seeds for later.

That's done, and now the work is all about trades and free agency. We have to improve our defense in the paint and our ability to score in the post. Our perimeter scoring is good, but we are powerless under the basket.
