baseball turning a blind eye to steriods in the 90's (either knowingly or unknowingly) turned out to be a smart fiscal move as the homerun chase of 98 resurrected the game. and even after game of shadows and all that stuff, ratings are higher, attendance is higher, and they are making a ton of money.

ultimately, it's a business and despite the negative PR, their business is booming.

yep, Selig & MLB profitted heavily by turning a blind eye to roids in the 90's... now they're persecuting the very players that helped to put the sport back on top in this country for doing the very thing they basically didn't say a damn thing about to do it... being an enabler is almost as bad as doing the drugs yourself... then to stand on top of your soap box after the fact & then cry foul on those who you were enabling to begin with is even more despicable... i have no respect for Bud Selig & his hypocricy.

on ARod, no one really knows if he's clean or not, just like no one knows if Pedro Martinez, Derek Jeter, Curt Schilling, Josh Beckett or anyone else in this game is for that matter... but for argument's sake, say if ARod is clean, then all the records he's destined to break in the coming years will have been even MORE impressive when you consider the fact that he was going up against competition that was juiced on a regular basis.

I can make the same arguement for Barry Bonds... look he hit 73 homers against pitchers who were juiced. If A-rod hits 75 against non-juiced pitchers, that's not more impressive necessarily.

The #s mean nothing anymore. If you want to follow the game for Ws and Ls and stuff like that... i don't think that much has changed. But the #s don't mean anything anymore.

i don't disagree... i've argued in the past that u can't point a finger at Bonds & his accomplishments when more than half the pitchers he was likely facing while he was achieving those records were likely on the juice... & ur right, the numbers don't mean as much anymore because everything is tainted, but again i said if ARod is clean then his #'s are even more impressive, just as they would if Bonds was clean all this time... but let's face it, the latter is a lot less likely considering the sudden change in body mass Bonds undertook during a short span between his alleged "clean" years & his "juiced up" years along w/the sudden & drastic spike in his offensive #'s... he's also been convicted of perjury by Congress... if Rocket ends up sharing the same fate he's pretty much in the same boat as he is... there'd be no defending either of them then, but still doesn't mean i'd take their HOF credentials away from them because i think both were HOF players before the alleged use took place.

btw, IMO there isn't a mainstream sport out there that isn't tainted w/competitors using PED's on a regular basis... it happens in almost every Olympic event, Football, Baseball, Hockey, Mixed Martial Arts, Wrestling & i have a good feeling it happens in Tennis also.

Interesting you left out Basketball. Is BBALL free of PEDs?

nope, i think hoops is right in there too.

Maybe i'm naive but I don't see steroids helping much in Basketball... which PEDs do you think they use?

I'm assuming you're not talking about smoking some ganj.

how could PED's not help much in hoops, a sport where jumping higher, having better stamina & conditioning, being stronger, & running faster have almost everything to do w/determining how successful a player can be? i've also heard it discussed that roids also have a beneficial impact on hand-eye coordination as well, but i'm no expert on the topic so not sure if that's true or not... that's gotta have an effect on shooting the ball & on ballhandling, no? roids don't always have to be taken to get buff & huge like a bodybuilder... that seems to be a common misconception by people... you also use it to recover from injuries quicker & promote healing, same way as Andy Pettitte admitted to using as i'm sure you're already aware.

i have my doubts about certain high profile players like Ben Wallace, Alonzo, the Mailman... maybe even Lebron... i mean the guy is a human freak physically... it could be in the genes, who knows... this is all unfounded assumption on my part, but the suspicion is definitely there.
