I like Donte Greene a lot too. Saw the game against SJU the other day and he was lights out for a long stretch in that game. A real gunner, he reminds me a lot of Glen Rice form and release-wise. Does he have much of a take to the basket? He didn't show it against the Johnnies really, but that jumper is about as pure a jumper as I've ever seen. Didn't really put the ball on the floor too much against St Johns though.

Would be nice to hear Gus Johnson say, "Greene for three. PURE"!!!!!!!!!!

Donte Greene
Michael Beasley
Eric Gordon
OJ Mayo
Derrick Rose
DeAndre Jordan

it's pretty safe to say the Knicks will get a good player with a lot of potential in the draft.

Completely agree. I'm not sure there is a single super-duper-mega star in this draft, but there are plenty of top flight players. Blake Griffin deserves to be on that list, IMO.
i didn't add Griffin because i don't see the Knicks drafting a PF when they have Z-Ro and Lee.

Fair enough... I actually think he could play SF though, as odd as that sounds.

I like the Center from BYU. Trent Plaisted. I saw him when BYU played UNC. Had 24/17. He was a monster that game. Had some really slick post moves too.

Knicks need a guard like Jerel McNeal from Marquette.

Blake Griffin is a stud. I'd take him on Knicks any day. A way better version of D-Lee.

Mayo basically lost USC's last game for them by himself. Don't have the stats in front of me, but it was something like 5/22 from the field.

Let's steer clear from this guy. Sounds like a JR Rider or something
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

This is what I was asking earlier , this guy is all hype and no real substance
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

O. Mayo, G - 38 minutes, 5-19, 3-5 from the line, 5 rebs, 0 assists, 14 points, 5 turnovers

In a six point loss to a conference rival; that's rough.

I hear people say OJ Mayo has not played decent college basketball this season... I have no idea what they're talking about. He has played shooting guard during high school and college and averages 20 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.5 rebounds on 44.4 percent. Michael Jordan averaged basically 14 points, 2 assists and five rebounds at 54 percent a game as a freshman. Mayo doesn't shoot well enough to be considered the next Jordan, but he's an interesting prospect because he knows how to move without the ball. I figured it had something to with his personal history, so I went back and took a look at it because I'm really starting to want him if the Knicks miss out on Michael Beasley, Derrick Rose, or DeAndre Jordan. To me, he's belongs in the top four, like Chris Bosh deserved to be with LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwyane Wade.

Draft Express has him listed as the preseason number one, nbadraft.net had him listed at two. Since then, he's fallen to third and 10th, respectively.

****

High School Ball

He had a fantastic high school career, going for 38 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists a game in his 2006 campaign. Publications, such as Sports Illustrated, took an active interest. LeBron and Carmelo even attended his high school games. You could say he was expected to put on a show, and he did.

****

A black eye to Mayo's legacy was when Mayo allegedly assaulted referee Mike Lazo, after being ejected from a game, earning a two game suspension in a game full of suspensions. However, video evidence supports Lazo faking the incident. This led to a temporary restraining order, signed by Cabell County Circuit Court Judge Dan O'Hanlan, to temporarily lift the suspensions on Mayo and five others suspensions from that game. Shortly after, the restraining order was nullified, and Mayo was suspended for three games. Mayo called it, "fair."

****
Between High School ball and the NCAA

Mayo got caught his senior year with some marijuana between amongst himself and his boys, but was still Ohio's player of the year. Teammate Patrick Patterson was the runner-up.

A New York Times piece came out, which described how he recruited himself to USC. He told Head Coach Tim Floyd he'd call him and this is where he wanted to go. Floyd wanted his number to call him, but he rebuked. Mayo was getting killed for this in the media after the fact. He addressed the issues on PTI. THIS IS VERY ENTERTAINING:

****

College

OJ Mayo is still being classified as a point guard by people. They are looking for gaudy assists numbers. THe people at nbadraft.net are still evaluating him as a point guard, because he has point guard skills. Well, he hasn't played point guard at all. He was a shooting guard in high school. He is a shooting guard in college. He's similar to LeBron James in that regard... he could play point guard if the situation warranted it, but that's not his natural position. His game log is impressive if you look at things like shooting percentage, points, rebounds, assists, and steals... the turnovers concern me though.

I know the popular move is to bash OJ Mayo. Hell, he seems like he's had the world by the balls forever. Well, he was a prodigy that came from modest backgrounds. He wanted to play in LA... How do you think he'd embrace New York?

5-19 and 5 turnovers is a bad game no matter how you slice it.

Until he starts backing up the hype, I don't want this guy.

Comparing OJ's Freshman year to Jordan's is crazy. Different era. Freshman are allowed to carry teams now and do it effectively. 'Melo played a composed, efficient game his entire season at SU. He didn't have any team killing stat lines like the one above.

I went there because of what Floyd said in the PTI clip. And you're wrong. It isn't crazy to compare any SG to MJ's career at SG because, well, he's the gold standard. I flat out said he isn;t close to the production of Jordan... anyway, way to point to one game to prove your point. That's the prudent thing to do.

It's easy to pick out a bad game. Look at his game log, 4-5 bad games and the rest good

Mayo's gamelog

Supreme ... they say OJ has a bad attitude, I don't buy it. That incident with the ref is bull, the ref flopped.

I saw on a draft website that Mayo's game is most comparable to Stephon Marbury! That's all I had to read about the kid. NO THANK YOU.
