This is what is maddening about this team. They are capable of playing this way every night. But simply put.................
They don't.
I used to think the knicks could play like this every night- now, I just think that this group cannot.
I would need to see a string of 20 games with this level of play before I could entertain saying this team can play a certain way.
I think Cosmic is on target with his points.
I seperate the talent from the mental side of things. In the fall when I would assess my team I immediately figure out the talent level and have a solid idea of how many games we are capable of winning. The rest comes down to motivation and how long it takes for my team to "get it". Now I have gone seasons where my team has never "gotten it". But this doesn't mean that they aren't capable.
That's the way I look at the Knicks. The Knicks have the talent to win 40+ games. But unfortunately collectively we may not have the will, make-up, defensive intensity and most importantly balance to come close to those goals. It's unfortunate.
You are correct. Marbs will probably never learn to lead, defend on a regular basis and run an offense Craw will probably never learn what a good shot is and how to hustle on the D Curry probably will never learn to rebound or defend or hustle on a regular basis Zach will probably never learn to lead a team and will always be a black hole
Our core will always be flawed and is not championship worthy. But the optimist in me always says "what if".
Now that I've said that I am pretty confident that the Knicks will lose to Charlotte by 25, but I'm not changing my Game Picker.
