Mardy is coming off knee surgery this summer and an ankle injury this season. Shouldn't we be giving him a break like we have *some* other players who were injured waaaay back to last season?

oohah

Im sorry but I've always felt that Mardy was garbage. Didn't think he was good last season and still feel that way. He cann't shoot and cann't dribble. If you cann't do those basic skills then you need to seriously reavaluate your being in the NBA.

I thought QRich was the worst player in the NBA. Make up your mind.

Seriously, Mardy looks terrible out there. I had some hope for him last season, but he's not looking too good. It's weird that after 20-ish games, Isiah's gone from looking like a drafting (in some people's minds) genius to a decent drafter.

Yep - Isiah drafted David Lee... What else? Not too much...

Eventually I hope you'll post more directly. Speak your mind.

I am. Me speaking my mind will never be a problem, so please don't concern yourself about that.
Why are you so against fans rooting for David Lee and why is every post lately a shot at fans who have supported Mr. Lee?

A ) I'm not against anyone rooting for David Lee. You made that up, and you have no evidence to support that contention.

B) Not every post is a shot at fans rooting for a David Lee. I'm tired of this silly double standard where David Lee walks on water and everybody makes excuses for him or simply ignores when he plays bad, and only Lee gets recognition for good play. If Lee and another player team up to make a good play it's "The David Lee" play. Lee is made out of rose-scented teflon and everyone else is garbage.

Instead of asking me to join you in the land where David Lee is great and everyone else sucks, I'll ask you yourself to judge Lee by the same standard as the rest of the Knicks players. Isn't that a novel idea? So when Lee lets his man blow by him again and again, I'd like to see you bitch about it. When he clanks another jumper, bitch about it.

Prove to me that you aren't like the rest.

David Lee had a nice game against the Cavs. You know who else played very well? Richardson set the tone by making shots to keep the Knicks in it and he played tough D on LeBron. Randolph played well by keeping the Knicks in it against tremendous defensive pressure after that. Crawford played well passing the ball and stretching the defense through the whole game. Hell, Jones, Robinson, and Curry played nice supporting games as well.

But it's all about Lee for you guys.

Get over it. Lee does not stand outside of the Knicks. He is one of them. When they lose, he is part of that. He has been part of the losing since he was drafted, sorry to break it to you. When they win, the other Knicks are part of that, it isn't just Lee carrying the team on his back despite the other guys playing terrible.

So instead of calling me out on made up nonsense, why don't you prove that you aren't a fan of the David Lees, but the Knicks?

In other words, you're deeply offended about the perceived lack of consistency regarding how David Lee is criticized vs. others. I think a big reason for this is the fact that David Lee is a balanced player and contributes in multiple ways, regardless of whether his shot is falling or not. I'm not sure why you're perceiving this double standard for Lee, because I haven't seen it. People like Lee because of EFFORT: that's quite fair. He puts out more effort than many of the others on this team.

Now, when a generally consistent player has a bad game, I don't go nuts bashing him over the head, just as I don't go nuts assuming certain players have turned the corner after single games. Finally, as for the comparison between Lee and Mardy... Mardy has had a bad season. Lee is still playing at a relatively high level, despite generally getting fewer minutes. I don't see your argument.

As for the Knicks, all I'll say is they're hard to watch. I spend very little time complimenting any player on the team, including David Lee, because as far as I'm concerned, the negatives highly outweigh the positives. Last year I gave Mardy compliments. This year he's been terrible. That's just how it's been.

No in other words, you are putting words in my mouth. Solace, if you need to put words in my mouth to have a point, do you really have one?

Lee is balanced? I guess Eddy Curry is balanced too. Lee can only score consistently within 5 feet from the basket and he rebounds well. He can't shoot and his D is awful. I don't see that as balanced. I wouldn't call that multiple ways. I would call that 2 good skills.

You want to see a player who actually contributes in multiple ways? Check Zach Randolph, who is a rebounding beast, can score from anywhere on the floor and demands a double-team, plays better D than Lee, and he averages 2 assists per game while his passing is getting better each game. Oh, but he is called a "stat-whore".

So there is a double-standard. Don't you see Randolph putting forth maximum effort? Why isn't he getting the Lee treatment? When Lee was playing bad, it was Isiah's fault, or the other players fault, or he was injured. In reality, he was out of shape and playing his way into shape.

Yes, that is a double standard. Am I deeply offended? No. But apparently you are deeply offended that I insist on stating a reality-based view of Lee instead of one that is more in line with what Lee's mother might take.
Now, when a generally consistent player has a bad game, I don't go nuts bashing him over the head, just as I don't go nuts assuming certain players have turned the corner after single games. You're making ths about you. I will remind you that you were the one who called me out, not vice-versa. We were not arguing about anything Collins Vs. Lee or anything else.

In regards to Mardy Collins, let us explore the double standard again: Mardy had a very strong finish to last season and showed some nice capabilities. Collins had knee surgery in the off-season. He sprained his ankle vs. Phoenix very similarly to how Lee did last year.

But Mardy is the worst player in the NBA. Forget the fact that he has been injured for most of the season. He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt and excuses made for him like Lee does, even though he suffered his injury much more recently than Lee, as well as recently undergoing knee surgery. Lee gets excused Mardy gets crapped on. Double standard.

And I am not looking for an argument. Again, you engaged me. Lee is playing well (On offense) recently, he was playing relatively poor before. His play has not equaled wins just like every other player including Randolph, who is better than Lee. I guess to those who want to hold a double-standard for Lee, that equates to he has played at a relatively high-level this season.

otay, man, whatever. While there's a few interesting bits in what you said, I'll have to classify that as a strange response. We're clearly both watching and perceiving different things. I don't care about convincing you that you're wrong. I'll just know to understand that you're coming from 'somewhere else' when you make these silly accusations.

While Mardy has a terrible jump shot he does everything else very well. Remember last April? Led the league in minutes? For a while was averaging that coveted 15/5/5 that is commonly used to describe star players?

I don't believe that player has disappeared. No, I don't think he's a star I'm just pointing out what he had done in April.

I think you can chalk up his problems to the knee and subsequently to conditioning as a result of lack of playing time.

Hopefully he works through the knee, gets back into shape, and gets another chance to put in 20 minutes as a bench/role player.

We could use a smart player like him. We have so many wild guards in Nate, Craw, Marbury that we need a calm cool and collected individual like Mardy out there for balance and a change of tempo.

Injured players get a pass in my book unless they're chronically injured (Such as Q going on three seasons of constant injury!)

Yikes he cann't dribble and is a below average passer. I thought Mardy was average in college and is not a very good pro. Send him to the D-league so he can at least get some live action.

I disagree about his passing. He feeds the post better than any of the other guards. He is also the best defensive player out of the guards. His handle is serviceable. last year he went to the basket nicely. He rebounds better than any other guard on the team except maybe Q.

His J is bad, which I can never understand for a guard, but I think he has the goods to be a solid pro. Better than Charlie Ward!

collins is not a bad player he is just shook
if this was boxing it would be something to worry about
personally i dont think the knicks need him right now
he's still hurt chandler should be getting any min
they think about giving collins
i know they dont play the same position
but nate should be getting all the back up pg min anyway
wilson can play the 2 3 and 4

Oohah, I agree with you. Mardy Collins is better than Charlie Ward, but that's not very hard to do. Chris Childs was better too. So was Cherokee Parks and also Lavar Postell. Marbury is a better Knick than Ward was too. So was Rory Sparrow.

Travis Knight is also an example of a player who was a better player than Charlie Ward. I'd like to point out that there are a couple of players who might stoop down to Ward's level, and that's Khalad El Amin, and Taliq Brown, but KWAME Brown is much better than Ward and the rest of those guys.
