If you get away from coddling Curry like this staff has, he still has some upside.
Great point. The coddling of our players should have stopped 3 years ago. We are more concerned with keeping them happy and confident and comfortable than we are about winning.
I'm not as familiar with his Chicago days, but Skiles definitely used to ride Curry about his laziness and lack of rebounding even in the press. He made the team run sprints when Curry would do something lazy when not tape his ankles in practice. Curry did improve in his last season under Skiles, but still didn't rebound or block shots. I sometimes wonder that maybe he can't be coached. But I really think if you had someone ride him to get in shape and give a better effort- you know physically beat him down- that's the only chance you get him to change.
Yeah, you may have a point. It's really difficult getting through to some players. Some people/players are just inherently passive. They don't have that inner anger, that drive, that will to be the best. I don't hate the player for that, I just know you can't build around guys like that, unless you change them.
Man, I don't get it. I'm 70 years old and have lost a lot of my game. But still to this day, if a person even tries to make a move when I'm playing defense I take it personally. The mere fact that an offensive player thinks he can score on me, is enough to make me want to kill him. Nothing excites me more than being one of the smaller guys and outrebounding everyone. Nothing gets me going more than seeing a teammate make a nasty move after a pass I made. It's the whole reason why I play and coach team sports. The drive to do whatever it takes. It makes me physically ill to watch these players quit in games. And we've seen it over 40 times in the last 3 years. And yet we are told not to be upset. It's just another game. But I guess when you are making millions, it is JUST ANOTHER GAME.
