that's a legitimate point... the whole crap about D Nic not wanting to accept a D League assignment could have been Isiah's spin to excuse the fact that he didn't buy out Big Turd or Jared Fishlips to make room on the roster for him... it could also have been Dolan's doing by refusing to buy out any more contracts to cover up Isiah's boneheaded signings... basically, we have no credibility like u just mentioned

'Big Turn or Jared Fishlips'? The creativity on this board is funny. That's what I love about this board, when we have it. We need more sarcasm! That's great! But we are in agreement.

You'd think that Nichols could have gotten more money playing in Europe somewhere for that year vs a non-guaranteed contract in the NBA, only to play for a DL team. Then again... he could have made the right choice - his outside shooting and his size/length/defense could push Lebron down to SG later this season.

that's the thing, he refused to sign if he was gonna be relegated to the D Leagues... i was under the impression that Isiah gave him a guarantee that he'd either make the roster or he'd be waived so he could sign on w/another team... if that's the case, why's he all of a sudden open to accepting a D League assignment now? very curious

the Knicks couldn't sign DNic cause they had no roster space. They wanted to keep his signing rights by allowing him to sign a contract in Europe.

That's it.

i wanted him just like you all wanted him
but you got to realize thomas wanted him too
thats why he traded for him
we just didn't have the roster space
eating up james deal for a guy you aren't going to play much
doesn't make dollars or cents and the bottom line
this is a business i wish james was gone and nich was he but he's not
maybe we can catch him next year or get some one else to play that role
with our first round pick this yr im not sweating it

What about if you were in your early 20s, and you just had your first child? Would you go then? Would you leave your family behind? Would you ask your gf to leave her family to come join you knowing it would be harder on her without the support she was getting back home?

This isn't prison....why the heck not....bring the lady and the family along....If not, have them visit...I'm sure D Nick is good enough to make 1 mil USD per for the time he spends there....This is Europe not Rikers...

I think quite rightly, Demetris thought his best shot of being in the NBA was staying in the US where it'd be tough to forget about him. Lets say he has a handshake deal to go to Europe and blows out his ACL there. Then he's f'd and may never get a shake in the league.

Over he here gets his opportunity to play when he's ready. Honestly his play in summer league/preseason was everything he could possibly due to warrant a spot on a roster.

If he blows out his knee in D-League he is done...Then, his best chance to play again may be Europe...

At least he's got the 1 yr guarantee here and gets an NBA medical treatment. He can also be called up at any time. There are many advantages to being here rather than Europe.

He also gets one year of NBA service time and everything that comes with that. Plus insurance and first class medical treatment for him and his family. Plus the simple fact of being in the NBA and having access to his teams assistants and trainers and letting all 30 teams be able to see him on a regular basis.

Why would anybody want to be hidden in Europe for a team that didn't want to guarantee him a spot on their roster? And when that team is a complete cluster**** to begin with, why wouldn't he look out for his own best interests?

So far the only reason people seem to have for him going to Europe, is for Eurotrash ass. There's no good reason for him to go to Europe if his goal is to play in the NBA.

bingo. the call-up thing is the real difference IMO (although i hadn't thought of islesfan's point about the one year of service thing). if he's in the D-league, at any point he could be days from seeing playing time with the cavs. if he kicks ass for a few weeks, he gets called up. if damon jones and sasha pavlovic get injured he may get called up. if he goes to europe it's a real long shot that he'd see any playing time this season. the kid wants to play in the NBA, and being on a roster and in the D-league is closer than being a free agent in europe. he should be on our roster.

The reality of the situation is that this is the third team in a two months span of NBA play that has deemed him not ready for primetime...Had he gone to Europe, he would have gotten another shot at NBA ball in Knicks training camp next year, which would let the rest of the league see his game and how he improved...He would have been able to gained more confidence in his game and would have grown stronger for NBA action next year...He would have had a completely year to develop and work out physically for NBA action...

Now, if he doesn't show any signs in D-League he is done...He may not even get the look from Europe as if he was sponsored by Knicks for his one year stint...

This is the third NBA team, THREE, that thinks he isn't ready..But the UK mafia thinks outwise....Go figure...
