why would anyone want any part of VG's boring offense again? he's a defensive coach & this team doesn't have enough defensive minded players playing key roles to run his system effectively... he's not a good fit for this team or these players... we need to address the roster issues first, then address who's gonna coach them.

If you had a choice between Isiah and Van Gundy, who would you rather have? I know this is a tough one, but who's it gonna be?

the answer is obvious, but VG is not he only option out there..

Jeff Van Gundy on ESPN Radio

- loved coaching the Knicks...but coaching rumor-mill is churning because of situation with team

- Knicks can't cash in on the season yet because they are only 11 games in

- Van G was asked about set plays...early in game, motion (5 men involved)...playing Eddy & Zach, Van G doesnt like...strengths arent complimentary (hi TO guys, not energetic defenders)...gonna be a low post team and constricts opposing team...less room for drivers...not good on D or passing...good rebounding & FT's (which is good)...talent of individual players are overblown beacuse its NY

- sexual harassment: if they could find a way to win a game, things will settle down; Van G didnt really follow the trial

- Marbury: Isiah made a mistake by overreacting to loss to Miami with Marbury; don't have a better player behind Marbury at PG; playing Mardy was a STRETCH; Marbury had the power because no one better was waiting in the wings; Eddy Curry shouldn't have been the one to tell Marbury either about the benching

- Van Gundy enjoys broadcasting; as for coaching, at some point he will get back in to coaching because he loves camaraderie and coaching...in NY, the support for the coaching position has not been strong; in NY, coach is always second-guessed and mgmnt must quell waters until a change is made

Papabear Says

Van gundy ran out on the Knicks. He realized a sinking ship and he might get the blame so he jumped ship and saved his career.

Van Gundy, now an NBA analyst for ESPN, criticized Thomas for poorly handling Stephon Marbury’s benching. But he also said something I agree wholeheartedly with: Thomas isn’t getting the public support he should be getting from his boss, James Dolan.

“When I was in New York, what I really liked was that my bosses were Dave Checketts and Ernie Grunfeld,” Van Gundy said. “They made changes. They traded players and they fired coaches. But you always had their wholehearted support until they were ready to make a change.

“Right now, I think it’s important that whoever’s in that position gets the same support,” he said. “It’s Isiah now. Before that it was Lenny Wilkens, Don Chaney, Larry Brown. And I just think at times that support for that position has not been as strong as it needs to be, to let everyone know who’s in charge and that we’re riding along with that coach.”

Great point. Where was Dolan today when Thomas stood in front of the media horde again and expressed his opinion that he doesn’t expect to be fired this season? Why would Dolan leave Thomas by himself to make the case that he shouldn’t be fired; isn’t that Dolan’s job?

Van Gundy is talking as a coach about how he, as a coach, would like to be treated. But he's forgetting how Isiah treated all his coaches under him, Lording over them from the tunnel, letting marbury out muscle them, keeping them on the hotseat and turntable time after time.

The reason isiah is not being supported is because he's the president, GM and coach, there is nobody to buffer him. Few owners make statements for their teams, GMs do. Isiah wanted the whole kaboodle here and he's got it. I'm not gonna feel sorry for him if he's under scrutiny and finally needs to show something for his nearly four years of work and a quarter billion dollars spent.

Van Gundy is not forgetting. He's being diplomatic.

I actually think he's being critical. Clearly, none of these coaches had support from Isiah... they were his sacrificial lambs that allowed him to stay in power this long. It's a veiled jab IMO.

If vandummy comes back to the knicks I will turn into Isles

You got nothing to worry about. Dolan like everyone but Van Gundy. He hasn't forgotten how he left the KNicks high and dry he is no different than Stephon.

In retrospect, JVG is the smartest one. He left. I thought Steph was on the right track.

Im not saying is the answer, but he sure is better than any thing we got.

bring in VG & this team is still no better than a 38 win team... we need to balance out the roster first & foremost... u can't make lemonade if u ain't got no lemons.

38 would be quite an upgrade though. I'd take until things got better in a few years.

no more aiming for mediocre results... we need to have a real plan in place to build a legitimate contender... quick band aid solutions just so we can finish out of the playoffs & end up w/a bad lottery pick isn't gonna fix anything.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

right... we need to start by addressing the roster issues.

actually, Jim Dolan probably needs to go first, but when that will happen is anyone's guess... it's sorta hard to get rid of an owner.

If Isiah is fired you must hire the GM first(using Herb as an interim) and then allow the GM to find a coach that he can get on the same page with. Enough of the nonsense. No more names.
I just hope that people will like me

I agree that first thing is first, get a new GM and make Herb the interim, but you gotto remember, if you wanna get a win now coach, like Phil Jackson, you gotto rebuild this roster first. If that's the case, just stick with Herb for awhile, and if he can hold his own, offer him a long term contract and make him the highest paid assistant coach in the NBA (If he chooses to stay and not look for a headcoaching job) once you find a coach you wanna hire for the long term, b/c Herb has earned it.

However, there's no way that you can turn this roster into a winning one, with Phil Jackson, JVH, Larry Brown, Adelman, Carlise or anyone. This roster needs to be blown up from top to bottom and we need fresh and winning faces and mentalities.
