I dunno. I'm not sure that we've seen enough. I think he's an excellent defender and he can get into the lane. He was a good ball player at Temple. On this level he will need to stick an open jumper playing out at guard. But I think he's the perfect complement to Nate Robinson. If Nate were to emerge, having Collins at 6'6" taking some PG pressure off him and taking defensive pressure off him would be a pretty nice luxury.

He obviously has a lot to work on but he barely played last year.

I think you can only have a sub par pg if you have all star big man. chris child and ward where solid defenders and may have hit a open jumper or 2, but there were still about 20 pgs in the league that were better at the time. Mardy is just young and in experiance, but if you had to make a solid scout report on him, he really doens't seem like he will excel in any one aspect of the game.

He is hurt. Healthy he has some promise. Is he the future at PG? Who knows, playing him is the only way of finding out. He could def be a good backup in the league.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

I would like to see him get a real shot. Right now he may not be healthy enough to log heavy minutes. I think he's the kind of guy that will do well with more minutes given to him. He seems to gain confidence offensively the longer he plays. I think he'll be an adequate PG for us even if he doesn't end up being a starter. There are worse PG's in the league. Very few can defend and rebound like him. Let's see what he's got.

I'd love to see Mardy, Chan and Balk on the floor with Lee and Zach.

Personally, I don't feel that Mardy is a PG. With his size, he really should be a BU G. I like him getting some minutes at SG smothering the wing with Balkman. I'm no Nate fan, but I'd rather him get a shot starting at the point because at least there is some upside there, whereas Mardy is what he is--a solid rotation player off the bench.

I really don't see what is so special about this guy. Knick fans say he can be the future pg for this team, but I really don't see what makes people think Mardy is so good. Will he be another Frank Williams, Sweetney, Butler, Ariza, or will he be a solid starter in this league?

Well, he was picked for two reasons. He came packaged as a big defensive guard, who could handle the ball well. One of the things that we been needing. The question is (and it's the same question for Balkman and Lee) is there enough room on this team (time and position wise) to see if they can develop into what they where packaged to be in the first place? At this point, I'd have to say 'look at the source'. The man who picked them and told us this.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Nixluva does bring up the point about not being in shape after having his surgery. Its a fair excuse.....doesn't help the Knicks much though.

I never thought his surgery would stop him from making good passes or hit foul line shots. IF his surgery was going to stop him from anything it should be defense. Because that's when a player needs to be quick on his feet and have good timing.

Not unless the people he's been guarding, simply suck in driving?
I'll never trust this' team again.

My other point is that you couldn't pick a worse situation for a young PG to come into and succeed. I mean last year he had nothing to work with and this year after not doing much of anything this summer he comes in on the road and with the team missing guys and in turmoil. He's only playing 15 minutes. I think he deserves a better shot than this.

Not to mention 'he got smacked in the face'. This is a real problem. When your trying to develop young players, and you bring them into an unsettling situation, it does have a long term affect on them. I even have a theory that what happened to Frye is a result of the 23 win season and the Brown-suckbury show. And then when he got injured, that seemed to put a cap on it. Maybe it wouldn't of been a good idea to bring Bynum to New York afterall.
I'll never trust this' team again.

I like Mardy. I figured a couple would get worked up over a post that didn't claim him as the future starting Point for the Knicks. I think he will get better and will be able to help us. Based on last year he proved he is able to contribute. But............

On a team with two enormous big men that sit in the post, you need a PG that can shoot the ball. Teams are literally not guarding Mardy right now. We've talked about balance for several years now. We've seen the effects of it for years now. And yet we still don't think Bip knows what he's talking about.

Mardy is who he is a timid g who is afraid to shoot at the nba level and plays adequate man to man defense, but is a liability on offense by not taking the open jumper to keep defense's honest.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

i've always rated him as an Aaron McKie clone w/better rebounding & worse shooting ability... i think he can be a solid starter for us but he needs to have some scorers around him.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I'm confused by some people's comments that he's not a PG.
If you feel this way, please explain.
I don't understand that. If he's not a point guard, he's not anything.
He can't shoot worth a lick, and he's definitely not a front court player, so...

who cares, he's mardy collins?

a late pick in a bad draft whose mediocre at best.

seriously, what a terrible topic.

mardy collins?

yea - let's harp on jared jordan while we're at it. or malik rose.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Yes, Mardy Collins sucks.

I'm quite the realist when it comes to the Knicks if you guys haven't noticed.
