when isola says "clean" he means as in physically clean.

now, in section 404, they pass around piss buckets and rats are running around all over the place.

jeezus Christ, i just got done saying there's nothing wrong w/banging strippers & hanging out at casinos, but Isola is trying to make some moral parallels here with Marbury having sex w/an intern & using Patrick Ewing as some shining example of how a player should conduct himself as a figurehead of this franchise... don't sit here & point some finger at me saying i'm uptight... i don't give a ****in rats ass what these players do w/their spare time as long as they keep it on the DL... but don't feed me this garbage about how saintly Patrick Ewing used to be in comparison to Marbury when he obviously wasn't.

Hold up rewind...... Marbury (whose a married father) admitted to having sex with an intern in his truck walked out of the court room singing it doesn't get more embrassing than that for himself and the franchise. The highlighted portion is my point exactly Patrick kept all his personal business off the court and on the DL.

bitty, ur simply not getting it... when you point out someone's flaws & try to paint their immoral character in a bad light, u don't use someone who's been guilty of some immoral acts of their own to effectively illustrate your point.

Apparently, I'm in the minority here, but I agree with Isola's article completely. The Garden used to be a proud place. Like, I expected contention every year. The team was professional and the only thing people talked about is "Why did we fall short in another Game 7?" Good times looking back on it because now, it's run worse than any organization in Manhattan.

There is no Knick Pride anymore and its depressing.

It's right on the money. MSG has turned into a cesspool, especially over the last 4 years.

Where there was once enormous pride to be associated with the Knicks, there is now nothing but embarrassment and shame.

I used to think "this year, is our year" everytime I went to the Garden in the 90s. If I go now, I think about catching trains or beating traffic.

Alright first off what your not getting is that this isn't about anyone's character its about how your represent yourself and your organization hopefully this is crystal clear. Besides I doubt there are many adults walking around that are in a position to pass judgement on anyone's lifestyle you and myself included. Thats why if Marbury spent his entire day sleeping with interns, gambling doing whatever but kept it out of the papers and never allowed his personal business to spill on the court; than the only person he should have to answer to for his behavior is his family.

sebstar - thank you for your perspective on revisionist history

People conveniently forget that Anthony Mason's crew was so problemmatic the Knicks security guards had issues.

The Riley Knicks were choirboys. Riley and Checketts sang the hymns after every game.

Isola's the one who made it about character, not me... w/e we'll just have to agree to disagree here.

i don't think Isola should be including Patrick Ewing's name in this discussion about maintaining a professional decorum while a member of the Knicks... didn't he regularly bang strippers in the back of stripclubs on roadtrips? not exactly the best example to use to defend his point here.

Come on, now we're saying players can't bang strippers?

Strippers are professionals who get paid for what they do by outside employers. That's a lot different than banging an unpaid employee at the Garden who was then promoted for her "services".

We already tried having a team of Mormons, and while they played a lot tougher than our supposed "thugs," I don't think we need to go there again.

BTW, in the future, when we compare Isiah to Layden can we remember that Layden had to operate with essentially one hand behind his back by not being able to take on anyone who wasn't god fearing and/or from Utah, and still his team would kick this one out of the Garden.

Seriously, what's wrong with banging strippers?

Spoken like someone who never has.

dude, i freakin' married one (something i'm not exactly proud of btw)... don't tell me about banging strippers unless u know what the F you're talking about...
Dude, having to pay your wife to take her shirt off doesn't make her a stripper!

LOL. Good one.

ITs kind of like when all was disgusted with Clinton-monica thing and look at the sac of sh!t in the white house. back then we had IPOs blowing thru the roof and a stained blue dress to bitch about!

Back then Walton thought LJ was a "disgrace to humanity", Ewing was surly unsympathetic charactor, and Mase was a time bomb. This cast of scum makes spree look like a freakin choir boy!

The bottom line is the 90's team was flawed and time has really bloated their status but one thing you got was an honest effort from those guys who defended their turf and played together most of the time.

LJ was a bad ass with an NCAA ring (the loss to Duke a fix????, ewing was a champ, Ward was the best QB in ny with his Heisman so you had a winners mentality. Oak got on board as did anyone else on the team.. You had to if you wanted to be a part of it.

Isiah picked bloated under achievers who have lost everywhere they went and got paid anyway. This is what you breed, a losing team with no charater to winning. They don't know it, never had it..A culture of losing manifests to that same thing.

What is baffleing is why Isiah, who came from Bobby Knights NCAA winning team, and the pistons not even have a clue?

^ B/c if you added clutchness to Starbury's game, you'd have an Isiah clone.

Zeke was black-balled from the USA team for a reason. Talent-wise, unfair, but there was a reason.

YOU NEVER FUCK WITH MJ. OR BIRD.

Zeke did both.

He was a hardhead who was selfish and a ballhog like Steph. Take Steph in his prime, add clutchness, and put him on the best defensive team of the decade and you might have a championship or 2 as well.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

I think the problem is Isiah has a messiah complex. He thinks he can turn water into wine. He got his brother off the streets and saved his life. As a player he feels he brought the best out of his teammates. As a GM he notes that Mighty Mouse Stoudamire peaked while in Toronto, so he takes credit for that. As a coach, Jermaine O'Neal blossomed and peaked under him, etc. So somewhere along the way he develops this notion that he can take wayward souls under his wing and redeem and transform them.

He knew he had a real project on his hands in Marbury, to have him move right next door and all, but he expected to make a champion of him. But he didn't stop there. TT, Mo Taylor, Jerome, Crawford, Eddy, Zach, Nate, etc, it's just a mountainous situation, and he's yet to crack the first nut. This is why he needs so much time, he's not trying to find chemistry, he's trying to reinvent these guys. But that so rarely happens, you have to consider it a gift when it does, and the players have to want to change.

Meanwhile, every day Isiah puts on his crown of thorns and feels himself the martyr for trying so hard. But like they say, working smart is better than working hard. Unfortunately Isiah has used Dolan's unlimited wealth to build himself a giant cross that now he must bear.
