What Isiah is doing is called trying to buy himself more time. He's building his excuse in case the team misses the playoffs again. "They" need years means "I" need years.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

If he's going down that "youth" route he should be careful, the hawks, raptors and arguably philly ,the bobcats and ex-jailblazers have a set of very good slightly younger players that may propel them into the playoffs.

Just an excuse for Dolan to keep him around...

The young players we should have an excuse to wait around for are Kevin Durant and Jeff Green.

Not ****in Randolph godamm Morris and Wilson Chandler...

You will find reason to turn on them to it really doesn't matter if its Kevin Durant or Jeff Green you just a flat out hater of everything not just Knicks. You should change you name to Grinch.

Yup I'm a hater...

I'm still trying to figure out what was so wrong with his statement. We all know that in most cases teams need time together to make the climb to a championship. It's expected that the Bulls, Cavs, Jazz, Nuggets, Hornets etc. would need experience to learn how to win in this league, so what is so wrong with what Isiah said, which is the same thing?

The only problem seems to be that it was Isiah who said it, so he has to be wrong and just making excuses. What was it Pat Riley always talked about, the innocent climb? Now we're gonna act like this isn't a normal part of NBA teams growth process? Give me a freakin break!

i really hate Isiah. He is just saying this beacuse this is his last job. No other team will ever hire him. Mark my words, the sexual harrasment case was his last straw. I refuse to wait for a team to take 8-9 years to rebuild as he calls it.
I want to leave something that's going to stand for a long timeI want to leave a legacy,I want to leave tradition.I want to leave an imprint,a blueprint in terms of how people play, and how they coach and how they respond when they put on the Knick uni.

Do you really believe that is what Isiah is saying? Why would anyone actually WANT for it to take 8-9 years to turn a team around? NO GM actually thinks in such long terms. Isiah is no different. He was simply making a point that if you look at most teams who try to rebuild it doesn't turn around in 1,2 or 3 yrs very often. Do you think he fell off of a truck somewhere and has no idea what the league is about?

Don't get caught up in words and miss the entire point. Isiah has in less than 4 years taken a team that had ZERO hope, future or upside and turned it into a team that has depth, youth, talent and now this year wins too. We don't know how the rest of the season will turn out but you get the sense that this year is different and it really hasn't taken that long to accomplish this. It's just our total lack of patience and appreciation for how hard it can be to go from a totally LOST roster to a team that has a future. Add to that not being allowed to do a complete rebuild. Remember that Dolan doesn't want that and wouldn't allow it. Now this team hasn't accomplished anything yet, but I like where it's headed.

I can see with my minds eye just how this could work. I can see young talents like Lee, Nate, Mardy, Balkman & Chandler giving us a nice supporting cast as we move along. Zach and Curry are coming into their prime years and I think we're gonna be a competitive team over the next 4-6 years. At this point that's not bad.

FireZeke - where did he say 8-9 years?

You always have high hopes," Thomas said. "(Renaldo) has exceeded my expectations. Just his confidence and knowing the personnel of the league [and] having the benefit of knowing my coaching style [have helped]. The longer you're in this league, the more intelligent you get."

Thomas still recalls the reaction when Balkman was selected in the first round of the 2006 draft - a choice that was roundly criticized.

"I thought that was pretty harsh," Thomas said. "But I can understand people disagreeing with the pick, but just think about that kid and that night. It was like Christmas for him, like a kid opening his toys and somebody telling him the box was empty, a lot of people laughing at him."

Sorry but that's complete BS that they had zero hope or future when Isiah got here. They had every single 1st rd pick and a few players with trade value. Plus they had Cablevisions limitless pockets to help take back bad contracts for more draft picks and buyout countless players. If they had done nothing, at the very minimum, they would have been able to draft in the lottery every year for 4 years, buy other first rounders and draft picks and sign quality players (not useless crap like JJ1 and JJ2) with the MLE. And they would have had a chance to manage their cap to a point where they could sign some helpful free agents in the very near future.

Seriously, stop acting like they had nothing to work with because that just isn't true. I would take that so-called "nothing" over what they have now. But they did beat a very flawed Denver team at home in the 3rd game of the season so I guess a championship is right around the corner. Remind me to bring up the Denver game everytime a Lover cries about how unfair Haters are to judge the Knicks for a stretch of games, much less a single one. It's funny, when they aren't playing well, we're told that we need to show patience. But if they have a good win, it's blown out of proportion by those same people.

nixluva, I really hope you don't just plan on posting after wins. You've never been like that and you're better than that. Glad to have you back, it wouldn't be the same without you.

"I don't think I ever would have had the opportunity to trade Nazr Mohammed for two first round draft picks. I like the player that I'm getting back in Malik Rose. He's a very tough player. He's a savvy champion who has played on two championship teams. Very high character. I think we're getting a very solid piece."

"As I said before, the way we're going to build this team, you got to get younger, you got to get more athletic. Today we got a little younger, but we also got better in terms of our future, in terms of adding draft picks. Over the next two years, you got four first round draft picks, which is something that we didn't have a couple of months ago."

"No, actually, I didn't really look into what anybody else was doing. I was really just focused and concentrating on making sure that we continue to execute our plan. And our plan, the only way we can build this team, is through the draft, or through expiring contracts, or through trades. And what we were able to do today is secure the draft picks, in terms of getting two first round picks, and also upgrade the talent, in Malik Rose and Maurice Taylor. I think it's a big talent upgrade in terms of what we let go."

Question: Those draft picks will be low, probably in the 26-30 range. How valuable are they, really?

Isiah Thomas: That's just it, I don't know. But at least now, we're in the game. We have a chance. For the next two years, you got a chance to add four players, four young players. Over prior years, when you look at who the players were drafted at those numbers, sometimes you get lucky. And sometimes you don't, but at least now, this is in a way our lottery. Without necessarily having to go all the way there. So these two picks, I don't know what they'll turn out to be. Who knows what they'll turn out to be. But some people have landed good talent there.
