why get a coach you have to compensate a team for when there are plenty others available?

I swear, ARES thinks coaches have no value whatsoever....

p.s. these days, 2nd round picks are pretty much worthless anyway.

Gony, for me he personaly stop the knicks from becoming like the mavericks by weasling his way(sucking up to ewing to whatever he wanted) as head coach instead of backing nellie to change who the offense was going thru and thus we followed the blueprint(riley)left that didn't evolve the new modern style of the nba that nellie saw coming . Instead he just wanted to win games only to keep his job and fought the visionary we had here "grunfeld". Grunfeld had a clue and Gundy fought him and luckily thru injuries camby was allowed to play. Gundy and Ewing destroyed the hope of the knick staying competitive for title runs in the 2000's. But for some, you're to blinded not to see ny would have been better with nellie and grunfeld instead of winding up with Layden and gundy. And now you blame chaney who gundy endorsed and drop a two ton weight on chaney's head. YOU DO THE MATH. I am all about the knicks not this bash them after the fact mentality when the damage was done way back then.

Playa, as much as I hate the Gundy post because its time to move on he has. I agree with your assesment of JVG. You are correct in your thinking reguarding him. I would like to have seen the Knicks move in another direction with Grunfeld as the GM. Nellie I wasn't a big fan of because even in his change of game he hasn't won squat in the NBA as a coach. His talent level from the Warriors and from Dallas is out of this world but he can't coach them into the championship. His mishandling of players such as Webber and making bad trades Richmond for Owens makes me think that he isn't all that. I would have liked the Knicks to be more offensive minded because in the end it was their inability to put the ball in the basket that cost them a title. Gundy did nothing to help that aspect of the game his defensive coaching is second to none but his offense was stale and full of isolation plays. He didn't have the team playing super team ball thats why the Knicks were never able to score consistently. He relyed to much on the hot hand players. Wherever he ends up I think it would be wise for him to hire a offensive coordinator because he lacks the creatitvity on that side of the floor. Once again his defensive coaching is second to none. One thing you (playa) gotta do is move on, I know the fans don't see it but I do once the talent pool on the KNicks ran dry he jumped off the sinking ship like a rat. I to can never be happy with the way he ditched the fans and the team. I would have so much more respect for him had he stayed the full season and then decided to part than to do what he did. What bothers me is that the fans still sing his praise which to me is non existant. Like I said he has moved on and its been time since he left for the fans to do the same. Where ever he goes wish him the best all I know is that he no longer is a NYK fans concern.

One thing though how many coaches out west has won the title lately. So many people kill nellie for not winning in in the western conf Popovich?, but who else has won besides jackson who came from the eastern conf.

Winning a title in the NBA is probably the most difficult thing to do. It is a top heavy league. Do you realize that Phil Jackson has a decade worth of titles. I'm not blaming Nellie for not winning a championship what I have a problem with is that he had a gap of opportunity even with the Bucks to get something done make an appearance in the finals or something of that sort. When he was out west he had his chance to make the finals never came close until this year why because his talent level on his team was out of the ordinary and even then he couldn't get the job done. I think what you're doing is going from one extereme of offense with nellie to an extreme of defense with JVG. There is no inbetween with these guys. One can't coach defense and the other can't coach offense. The ideal coach is one that can do both. Forget the championship how many coaches have gone to the finals since Nellie has been coaching. Phil, Pop, Rudy T., JVG, Scott, Brown, Sloan, Dunlevy, Westpaul, Riley, Daily, Cunningham, Fitch, Jones, Adleman, Karl. These are just a few coaches I mentioned where is Nellie in this list. Nellie has an exciting brand of basketball going in Dallas and GS but that style hasn't made it yet why because he is missing the defensive aspect of the game. Nellie is a poor defensive coach.

Wait a minute. i'm not saying nellie is a win it all coach , but look at the opposition he had to face in his tenur'e in the league. Can u beat malone and stocton in their prime? How about kobe and shaq in their prime? I won't even bring up Jordan, like I said getting there is one thing and the best chance was this yr unfortunately dirk got hurt. I was talking about the last 10-15 yr coaching, now we have a cap so it's harder if ya owner or gm doesn''t want to win it all.

Vandummy has Houston sweating, until Monday. Does he really want he Houston job? Does he want to stay in the east and coach the Wizards? Is he afraid of the western conf foes he would face, or all the headaches of coaching Mobley and Francis? Or will he say it's all about where his family wants to be (money is not the concern). We will all see soon.

VanGumby is a toy coach, he knows coaches move on once they leave a team. He is fronting knowing nobody would listen to him on another team . He cracks me up! His family, no he's lying like Danny Ainge did, when Robert Horry threw that towel in his face he was done. Now if he's not lying, we know who wears the pants in his house(KIM VANDUMMY)

Gumby IS TRYING TO GAIN POWER IN D.C (WIZARDS)like he's the "PRESIDENT". He wants to get hired before they get a GM. Sounds like another gundy , grunfeld situation with Ewing smack dag in the middle. SOMETHINGS NEVER CHANGE!
