but what if the Muts or some other team wants to offer Jorge 4 years, you let him walk? what then, do u go w/Jose Molina as ur fulltime C, a guy who's never caught more than 78 games in a season? do u sign an old washed up Lo-Puke-a or Jason Kendall to be the starting C? do u offer up a premier prospect in a trade to go after some team's top Catching prospect? what is a better option than just holding on to Jorge & biting the bullet on that last year? it's only money, which the Yankees have plenty of. at worst, Jorge becomes a switch hitting DH/1B option for us in his last year or 2... that's not all that bad a thing to have.

Let him go. I think he has 2 more years in him before he starts to seriously decline. I don't want another Damon, Giambi situation. Platoon Molina and another good receiver, just as long as they're good with the kids. I'm really not impressed with Posada's ability to work with the kids. Find a Joe Girardi type to hold the fort. They need to concentrate on defense at first and Posada doesn't qualify. Pitching and Defense.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Damien Miller could be a Girardi-esque option i suppose... i think he worked well w/some of the D'Backs & Brewer young pitchers over the past several years... but he's way too old & not an AL calibre hitter at all IMO... we'd be losing way too much in offense in 1 season if we let ARod & Jorge get away... & there's no way we can assume that the Yankees will let the Muts get their grimy little hands on Jorge either.

Having rings doesn't mean you're not hungry. And as a corollary, not having rings doesn't mean you are hungry. Everything I saw from Posada and Pettitte on the field suggests they're as hungry as anyone.

Posada was playing for a contract very unlikely he puts up those numbers again. And you have to remember he is a 36 yr old catcher the wear and tear is fast and happens in a heart beat so I would think twice about offering him a 3 or 4 year contract. I personally wouldn't touch him right now and would let him go in FA. Petite doesn't want to be a Yankee I think he is going to exercise his player option if that is the case then I would let him walk also. Mariano I still think he has 3 good years left in him I would make him a nice offer and might give him an extra year. But if he feels disrespected then good bye. For all the talk these guys are doing they didn't even win the division last year and to me being a Yankee starts with winning the division.

so then Derek Jeter is no longer a Yankee or hungry because they didn't win the division last year? where are you going w/this, cuz it sounds very disjointed to me.

last year i saw 1 guy screaming in the dugout cuz he was pissed at his teammates for not giving a full effort... this was during their bad stretch to start the season when every Yankee hater out there was counting them out... this is the same guy who pitched his heart out in a stellar performance in the ALDS in a game the Yankees should have won & quite possibly could have won the series if they had... the guy was Andy Pettitte... if you think he wasn't hungry last year, you didn't watch the games my bro.

I'll give you my angle its very simple. I like Jeter he is a winner but that was a while back ago. To me if a right deal came along I will even wave good bye to Jeter. If Jeter can net me Handley Ramerez he is gone to me. I'm not attached to these guys like some of you guys are I'm just not. I'm not so sure Jeter is all that hungry anymore either this guy was grounding in to DP like a mofo in the playoffs. He was stranding runners in scoring position him and Posada, were pretty much were the goats in the Indians series. I don't know if you get this preception or not but lately when ever the Yankees make the playoffs I get the feeling that the Yankees think they are so much better than the other team they don't need to perform out there or put the effort, I don't know if that was the reflection of the Manager or not but this isn't what I remember the Yankees run to be.

Speaking out aginst Jeter seems to me like Blasphame but someones got to get on this guy he been get a free ride to much.

I think what you're missing is how SMALL a sample size of games you're relying on if you evaluate a guy based on one post-season series. The hungriest player in the world can have a bunch of GIDPs in one series.

to me, Jeter is baseball's Jordan in terms of his competitive drive & determination to win... he had a horrible ALDS, there's no doubt about it, but that doesn't mean he wasn't trying his best out there to help his team win... u don't hit a ball because you're hungry & want to hit it... things don't work that way in baseball... believe me, Jeter is not my idol or posterboy, but i do respect the guy for what he brings to this team & for how much he's always striving to win ballgames... the only thing that irks me about Jeter is his "i'm too cool to give u an honest answer to your question" attitude to the media... all his answers to every question are always the same crap over & over... people get on ARod's case for being rehearsed & polished, but i see the same type of stuff out of Jeter many times... but that's just their personalities & everyone can't be everything you want them to be sometimes
